Byrd laughed softly. "What part in the wood to you live in?" she asked Sofie.
Byrd laughed softly. "What part in the wood to you live in?" she asked Sofie.
“Oh it’s actually not far from here. I live under that huge oak over there,” I said, pointing to the leaves that stuck out a little bit higher than the other trees.
Byrd smiled and nodded. "I live south of the river."
“The… river? Where’s that? I live by a stream, but not a river.” I pryed through my memory of wandering around this area and faintly remembered ever seeing a river.
"Its a few miles away, not far from the mountain pass actually." Byrd explained. "The cold air travels down and it feels spectacular."
"Don't you get cold though? I like my warm den, but I don't think my fur is as thick as yours."
Byrd grinned. "I love the cold." she said blissfully.
Adolfa nodded, "I've seen that pass before. I don't really have a defined home, I'm still trying to find somewhere to live," she explained.
Byrd turned to Adolfa and nodded. "It took me forever to find my home."
"Oh… I didn't find mine. My parents did!" Lupus wagged his tail again.
“Oh yeah, that river! I know exactly where you live! I came down that pass when I first got here, actually. And I absolutely LOVE the cold!” I was not very confused anymore and a relieved expression crossed my face.
Byrd barked happily.
Oh hey, I almost forgot! “Do you guys know anything about a missing lynx? She disappeared recently. Ooooh, I really hope the monsters didn’t get her…”
Lupus shook his head. "Nope. But I'm sure she's alright!"
“Her name is Pixie and I’ve been helping her little brother find her. And he kinda… wandered off… so now he’s also kinda sort of missing too. Their best friend Lilly is really worried… sorry I’m talking a little fast and not saying anything important.” I smiled sheepishly.
“So Lupus, how old are you? Just making sure you don’t need someone to keep their eyes on you.” I laughed and smiled in a way to show that I was joking.
"I'm four months old! But I can fight if I need to!" Lupus got into play position, thinking it was a battle stance.
“Hey I have a good idea! Why don’t I show you how to get into a real battle position?” I said with a playful and gentle push to Lupus.
"Okay!" Lupus watched Sofie closely, copying her position to the best of his ability.
"Put your back left paw a little farther out," Adolfa said and nudged his paw in the right position with her muzzle.
Eventually, Lupus was standing in the correct position, afraid to move lest he ruin it. "So how does this help in battle?"
“You see, you can dodge quickly if needed and you are in a good position to jump on your attacker or trip them.” I demonstrated the examples I had given so Lupus could better understand.
"Okay! Are we ready to go? Um, wherever we're going. Are we going somewhere?"
“Yeah sure, let’s go to the waterfall by the mountain pass.”
"You guys go on without me, I'll go look for your lynx friend," Adolfa said and she walked away.
