“I-“ John shook his head, pushing the food back at Halo, “I can’t take this, we’re given rations in the army, and this is your food. I can’t take it,” John turned away, “I-“ A loud boom sounded, making John grab Halo and jump to the floor out of instinct, shielding Halo’s body with his own.
(Gtg, see you later! :)
Halo bites his lip, "I know… But, it's just some jerky, cheese and some fruit. I have plenty-" he squeaks when the loud noise shattered the peaceful air. What scared him more was when he was tackled and forced to the floor. His eyes went wide as John seemed to sheild him with his own body. He clutches to John fearfully, scared of the loud noise.
A second boom sounded, and John tried to tuck Halo beneath him as much as possible. A third boom, this one much quieter, sounded too close. A tree fell outside Halo’s cabin. John smelled smoke. He looked Halo directly in the eyes, his voice rapid and stern, “We need to get out of here, bombs are going off. We’re gonna get out, I promise,” John rolled off Halo, grabbed the other’s hand, and took off like a rabbit. He tugged Halo through the house, completely aware that there would be more bombs and fire everywhere. John needed to get them out of there.
Halo gasps at the noises, clinging to the other. When the other begab to drag him through the house, he stumbled, trying to keep up with John. The smeel of smoke filled his lungs. "John wait!" He cries. "Get on my back!" He says as they make it outside.
“What?” John demanded, too frantic as he looked at the burning trees. Another boom sounded, dangerously close. The temperature was rising steadily in the area. Not good. Smoke seemed to be everywhere. I just need to get Halo out. It was always his mission to protect, and even though Halo wasn’t human, John’s moral code didn’t exclude anyone.
"Just trust me." He spreads his wings. "Get on. We're losing time." He says, slowly and simply. His eyes travel around and he can see a small flicker of fire.
“Alright,” John grunted, wrapping his arms around Halo and holding on tightly. He couldn’t question things yet, there was too much going on. Another loud boom sounded. The armies were getting vicious, killing so many people from each side. John hoped his comrades were safe.
Halo nods and let's him climb on his back. He was surprisingly sturdy. With a flourish of his wings, they shot into the shy. "Tell me where you need to go." He says softly. "And I'll drop you off as close as I can get."
John tensed when they were in the air, but stayed calm, “I need to get to the camp, but it’ll be too dangerous for you,” John shouted over the wind. The battlefield unfolded before them, chaos erupting. Both sides had dead bodies everywhere. It looked like we were winning, but… John doubted there would be a surrender. He scanned the field until he saw the camp, small tents popped up and nurse running around frantically, “It’s over there.”
Halo nods, soaring towards the camp, but he pulls back, landing nearby. "Good luck." He says softly, offering a small smile. He takes a small step back.
“I-“ Gosh, what was he supposed to say to a monster as a farewell. John was about to open his mouth, wish the other good luck too, but men came running out from the other side, brandishing weapons and shouting to each other in another language. Their eyes were on John and Halo.
“Demon! Demon!” John made out from the men’s shouts.
He looked at Halo, “You have to go now, I’ll be fine,” John would not be fine, no, he’d probably end up dead considering there was at least ten of them. John couldn’t fight them all off.
Halo looks at him. "But what about you?" He asks, glancing at the men. He didn't like how angry the men appeared. He takes a step back, making his wings seem bigger, making him look bigger.
The men only seemed to approach faster, shaking their swords at them. John drew his sword, then pushed Halo’s shoulder gently, “They’re going to hurt you, and I trained for this. Go, while you can. You have no business in this battle, you should get out.” John took a deep breath, ready to face the oncoming fighters. Ready to die fighting.
Halo shakes his head, "And watch you die? That's an idiotic choice and a waste of medicine." He mutters. He plucks a feather and it turns into a long dagger. He gulps softly. "I just hope this'll work.
John jumped slightly at how Halo acquired his weapon, but he tore his eyes away when the first of the men charged him. John wouldn’t admit it, but he was glad someone fought with him. He just needed to make sure Halo stayed safe though. John raised his sword, parrying and attacking with a newfound fierceness, killing the first man and moving to the next few.
Halo leaps into action. He hated killing, but he would if he had to. He takes a soft breath and tries to relax. He lunges forward, killing one of the men. He trembles but holds his ground. He has to fight. Because in this case, it's fight or be killed.
(Should they lose? Since Halo is going to be experimented on?)
(Yeah that sounds good. Sorry I disappeared, I had practice and AP homework do)
John parried and blowed, his eyes losing track of Halo for a few moments when blood splattered. John had just sunk his sword into a man’s chest went he felt the cool tip of the blade at the back of his neck. He froze, but death didn’t greet him just yet, for some reason.
Halo was breathing heavily, his heart pounding. He felt a knife up against his throat, a strong grip on his arm, the knife was digging into his neck. "J-John! Run!" He croaks. "Quiet demon." He gives a small whimper of pain as the dagger dug into his skin, and he felt a small trickle of blood run down his neck.
“Stop. I’m a captain of the other army, can’t we work out a deal?” John said, his eyes glued to the knife on Halo’s neck. He should’ve kept a better eye on the men, he should have protected Halo better. He begged God to not force him to tattoo another name to his arm. The man kept the knife at John’s neck as he replied in a thick accent, “You’re a hostage, we don’t make deals with people who are already prisoners.”
Halo squeaks as he's pulled back further, the knife digging into the throat. "W-wait! Please-" He's cut of by the knife again. He bites his lip as he glances at John.
That was it. John lunged forward slashing his sword through the air. It didn’t hit its mark, but another weapon had as a knife dug its way into John’s gut. He fell to the ground with a groan of pain, and shackles were brought out and put on John’s hands and ankles, another set headed towards Halo.
Halo cries out when John was stabbed, his eyes going wide. "NO!" He watches as John is chained and as the shackles come towards him. He whimpers, watching them with hypnotized horror. His wings shrink into his back, and the men shackle him. He sobs softly and shakes his head weakly. "N-no please…" He begs softly. The chains were heavy on his wrists and ankles. He sobs softly.
John was shoved to his feet, pain shrieking through his body. The men forced him and Halo back into the woods, where a path, safe from the battle, took them into the enemy’s camp. Malicious stares greeted John as he limped through, blood pouring out of him too quickly. He tried to remind himself how he’d had worse, that he survived worse, but that was when he had nurses that attended him. He didn’t know what the enemy would do. John faked tripped, stumbling next to Halo and whispering to quietly and fast for the enemy to hear, “If you get the chance, get out.”
Halo walks with his head down, stumbling a little as he's forced through the woods. Silent tears streamed down his cheeks. He hated this. He hated himself for getting to close. John was bleeding heavily and Halo couldn't help him. He starts when the other trips beside him. His eyes widen. He wasn't going to leave John. That was absurd.
John and Halo were forced into a tent. A woman, fierce and judging, waited inside. She said something in her language, and a scrawny girl next to her scrawled it down on a piece of paper. The lady kept on saying things, but John could barely tell what language she was speaking in, he felt so dizzy and lethargic. He slowly started to stumbled, the world spinning.
