In the future, there was a disease about 50 years ago. Scientists created a vaccine to help people, and there was peace for a while, until people started getting strange powers. Now, there are no powers are allowed. Some people have powers or smuggle Serum X to people who want powers for money. Bounty hunters try to catch mutants and smugglers. If caught, the mutants/smugglers are shipped to a concentration camp where they have to fight for their lives in a virtual reality arena for the entertainment of the rich. If you die in the arena, you get injured in real life, and the wardens give out medicine, food supplies, and other stuff, like mods, depending on what score you get per day. If you get lower places every time you play, you slowly starve or die from your many wounds.
Powers are caused if you have Serum X in your veins and if you had a traumatizing experience that awakened your fight-or-flight sense. Then you got powers that are either related to the accident, related to your passion, related to your personality.

Backstory: His mom had bought Serum X from the black market so Asahi could have his own superpowers. He didn't want that and started a fire before he could be injected, but was still injected while he tried to run, thus giving him the power of fire. He was injected at his eighth birthday, and knowing the government hated people like him, hid his powers. At age twelve, he lost control and showed his powers to his whole school and started running, but got caught. He's been in the VR arena for 7 years and somehow managed to survive.
Other: Has a Japanese accent, can speak Japanese, Atemis is his half-sister, but they don't know yet

(Hmm… maybe she had Asashi so she could have someone to experiment on? And she covered up leaving him by saying he died in the fire? After that, she realized if she tried using another kid as an experiment, they'd probably rebel just like Asashi did, so she trained her next kid to be a bounty hunter for her and to believe in her ways.)
(Hmmm. I don't know. Artemis is 3 years older… Should we flip their ages maybe?)
