The men furrow their brows, looking to each other then to Jesse. They say nothing, not wanting to give out any info if it meant it could possible compromise them. But they just gave Jesse exactly what she needed to know.
"Good" she replies, stepping around them and towards the desk they stood in front of. Confused, they look to each other, shrugging before reaching for their weapons and facing their bodies towards her.
"i would not do that if i were you" she says, setting a loaded pistol on the table calmly.
"Yeah? And why not? Two of us, one of y-" The dark-haired man's voice is interrupted by a loud gunshot. The man almost jumps out of skin before he turns to see his partner fall to the floor.
His limp body lay on the dirty cement floor, blood leaking out of his skull and onto the ground beneath. An exit bullet hole visible in the middle of his face, his nose blown off for the most part.
Jesse stands their, gun still on the table. It's obvious she didn't shoot him. So who did?
Heels click along the floor as a tall, slim woman steps into the room, a smoking gun in her hand. The first thing he notices is her short dark red hair slicked back and her black winged eyeliner. She has green eyes and a thin face.
The woman wears a black blazer with dress pants and large heeled boots and black gloves. She looks to Jesse and winks at her "missed me?" she asks as she shuts the door behind her.
Jesse picks up the gun and shoots the man in the chest as he's distracted and confused. He falls to the ground, gasping for air now and reaching for his gun with one hand, the other on his chest, trying to stop the blood.
The woman kicks the gun on the floor aside and stepped over him, letting him lay there and suffer.
"It's about time you got here" Jesse says to her, her eyes narrowing down on her as the woman sits on the side of the desk, looking up at Jesse. "mm i wanted to make you wait just a little bit hun" she says with a teasing smile.
Jesse rolls her eyes and holsters her gun. "I've got the files i need. We need to get out of here" she says, stepping around the desk and looking down at the man.
"finish him off. I was told to get something from the back" she says bluntly. The woman slips off of the desk and runs her hand along her arm before slipping it around her waist. Jesse looks down at her "what?"
"i dont care much for your job. But it's odd to see you've stooped so low…" she says, resting her head on Jesse's shoulder as they watch the man's life slip from his body, blood spurting out of his chest and onto the floor.
"Zander…" Jesse grumbles, looking down to her. In which she looks up to her, giving her a smile, black lipstick painted on her lips.
"We will talk about this later" Jesse replies looking away. This wasn't something she needed to talk to her about here.

His mother's voice calling his name snaps him out of his thoughts. A sting of hope pierces his chest as he took in a sharp breath, his gray eyes locking onto hers.
"Hm?" he asks, confused now. His brows furrow.
"Is that your name? My daughter was just telling me about you. Are you her friend from school?" Yoori asks him kindly.
And with that his heart sinks…
Min-Hyuk smiles and nods "oh, yeah that's my name." he says queitly, his voice trying not to break. He clears his throat, blinking away a few tears.
He feels a hand on his own. His mothers.
Her skin is thin and her bones are frail. Her hand is shaky but she squeezes it firmly. "whats wrong lovely?" she asks him, her brows furrowed with concern.
Min-Hyuk shakes his head "oh im sorry. Spring is coming up. My allergies are kicking in early this year. Yeah i help her out a little. I wanted to come with her to see you today. I hope you dont mind that" he asks
She scoffs, shaking her head "oh of course i dont mind. You think you two could sneak me out of here? I hate being stuffed up in this room with nothing to do but read a book!" she gives a weak laugh.
"You'll get out of here soon momma." Seo Hyeon says with a soft smile, leaning towards her just a little. Her long hair falling in her face before she sweeps it back out of the way. "and when you do, we can cook together and i can take you to the new park down the street! It'll be amazing. I promise" she says, holding her pinky out.
Min-Hyuk blocks out any more conversation and looks back out of the window. He knew since they were family he was allowed in here so late at night. But he felt like he should leave. Like he's waiting for security to kick him out any second now.
Was he even considered family anymore? His own mother failed to remember him. What was his purpose of being here?
Min-Hyuk stands, the chair making a sudden scratchy noise as he pushes it back, making them all jump and look to Min-Hyuk.
"sorry im going to use the restroom real quick" he says to them, giving his mother's hand a small squeeze before letting go. He quickly slips around the corner out of the room and presses his back to the wall of the hallway. Min slides down to the floor as tears flood his eyes and he can do nothing put let them spill out over his splotchy red cheeks. His black hair falls into his face and sticks to his cheeks as he quietly sobs with his knees to his chest.

Name: Lukas Devereaux, goes by Lucky
Age: 21
Gender/pronouns: Male, he/him
Sexuality: Demisexual
Shipping: Sure, but be prepared for this to take a minute.
Appearance: Lucky is roughly 5'8"/1.7m tall and weighs around 135lbs/61kg. He's lean but not skinny, and has disproportionately large hands and feet for his height. He's got honey blonde hair, and suffers from uncombable hair syndrome (It's a real thing, look it up!), which means his hair never cooperates. As he's gotten older, it's started to curl, leaving him with a head of extremely unruly curly blonde hair, which he usually keeps shorter than 6". His eyes are a light brown and are almond shaped. His nose is aquiline, but is bent just a bit as a result of a break years ago. He has no intentional facial hair, but does grow reddish-blonde stubble. He's got full lips but a rather small mouth, making his face an interesting shape. Not handsome, per se, but interesting. His torso and legs follow normal proportions, other than his hands and feet. If he gets very tired, he limps on his left leg from an old knee injury. However, he doesn't tire easily because he's generally fit. Not a gym-rat, but fit. He can usually be found in cargo shorts or pants (when its cold), with a flannel shirt and maybe a hooded poncho in the rain or the cold, and Timberland boots, always Timberlands. His color pallet leans towards green, blue, and brown, largely because he enjoys nature.
Personality: Lucky is a generally easy-going, laid back individual. He enjoys peace and quiet, he loves being outside, and he loves books. He speaks French, German, Esperanto, English, and a little bit of Spanish. His talent for languages comes as a result of him being generally friendly and willing to talk to strangers. However, he has a clock-stopping French accent (which I won't reflect in his writing style, because that would be horrifically unreadable. You'll just have to imagine.) He isn't extroverted, he prefers his quiet, but he's never rude about it, and will willingly make friends. However, things that irritate him, irritate him quickly. He also works very hard to keep his temper in check, but when he loses it, you better move. He's a protective individual, sometimes to a fault. He can also be fiercely independent when the mood strikes him, particularly if he's upset. He's capable but not overconfident.

Backstory: Lucky is from France. His dad is French, his mom German, and they met studying abroad. They got married, had Lukas, had his little sister, then split up. His mom moved back to Germany and Lukas and his sister went with her, but Lukas spends a most of his time at his dad's place in France. His mom has remarried, and his stepdad and he don't get along, so he stays away, mostly only going to visit his sister. His dad has stayed single since the split, and he and Lucky travel a lot. Lucky has been part of the Federation de Scoutisme Francais (the French equivalent of the Boy Scouts) since he was little, and he and his dad often enjoy camping together. Lucky has also been a part of various martial arts classes over the years; scouting and his combat classes have turned him into a soft-core survivalist. Rather than going to university, after high school, he has been travelling around and living off the land in Europe. His dad came on some trips with him, but in the last year, they found out he had cancer. His dad passed away and Lucky came to the States, partially to visit an aunt and uncle who have a ranch out by the Rockies, but also to grieve in private.

@EldritchHorror-Davadio health_and_safety emoji_events

Lucky tossed another log on the fire, before sitting down on the rock by his sleeping bag. He'd been sleeping just fine till that wolf had howled. It had spooked Sinjoro, and the horse had squealed till Lucky had rolled out of bed to go calm him down. 15 minutes later, he was still wide awake, even though it had been quiet out here since. The fire was dying, so he'd built it back up, trying to keep warm in the mountain winter. Convincing Tante Sophia to let him camp out up here for the weekend had been difficult, but with Uncle Tim on his side, he'd made it out without her scolding him too much. He knew she cared a lot, and only fussed because she didn't want him to be alone but… sometimes the silence of the mountains was nice.

And sometimes some peace and quiet from his 4 cousins was a necessity.

Lucky loved them, he really did, and they'd been very kind while he'd been staying with them since-… since Dad died… but honestly, sometimes they were SO LOUD. And with 4 of them, no place was quiet. He couldn't hide in his room, because he shared a room with a cousin. If he hid in the stable with the horses, someone would find him while they did their chores. If he went out in the pastures with the cows, he could sometimes still hear their laughter and playful shouting echoing across the flat ranchlands from the house. No, the only really quiet place out here was up in the mountains, with just the falling snow and his horse.

And the wolves, apparently.

Which reminded him. He dug his poncho out of his pack and unwrapped his tools. If there were predators around, being armed wasn't a bad idea. He pulled his hatchet and knife out of their pouches before he remembered his uncle's recent gift. Oh. Right. He stood up and went back over to where Sinjoro was tethered to a small pine. He had put the 9mm Glock 22 in his saddle bags, thinking he wouldn't need it, but it would definitely be better than trying to defend himself with a knife. He stuck the gun in his belt, and paused to nuzzle his horse's forehead.

"It's a beautiful night, Sinjoro." He looked up at the sky. "Think Dad can see the stars from heaven? Or maybe… maybe he IS a star now." That'd be cool. He walked back and flopped down on his sleeping bag, staring up at the stars. Dad, if you're a star, burn bright.

He lay there till morning, dozing a little, but mostly watching the stars and listening to the mountain sounds.

Lexie was laying almost completely on Alex's lap with a blanket, wrapped around her she had just woke up and started watching what was on the tv Alex had switched if whatever kid show was on to the news they were speaking of the recent peace treaty that once she realized it was the news to groaned and rolled over looking up at Alex
"What's your deal I thought you were asleep " Alex looked down at lexie with a smirk on her face
Lexie rolled her eyes before answering Alex "your stupid news woke me up me what happened to the show I was watching?"
Lexie had an attitude problem when she was tired so she wasn't the easiest to get along with but she was still a very nice little girl Alex just sat there shaking her as as she turned the tv back to levies show she she would hopefully fall asleep soon

Eldora was still lying face first on her bed, but she was feeling better. So, she decided to try walking again; she couldn't think of much else to do. Hastily putting on her scarf and coat, she walked outside. It was alright; the stars seemed normal again. Maybe she'd just been nauseous when she first got up. She took out some money, she'd decided to get some food while she was out here. She scanned the streets for a good looking fast food place to spend the dollars she had on her at the moment on, finally walking into a McDonalds to get some breakfast. She looked around the crowd and it seemed to kinda twist, though she noticed it was just a trick of her eyes. She was still a little worried, after all.

Zander steps away from Jesse and over the man on the ground, picking up the gun she had kicked away from him. Looking back to him, he now lays lifeless beside his partner, blood staining the ground. If she weren't so used to this, she would pity him. But her face stays emotionless as well as Jesse's
She shakes the blood off of the gun, removing a small handkerchief from her pocket and wiping the rest off. She's decided to clean it when they got home but for now she sticks it in the hem of her pants before turning back around to Jesse.
"Okay. My bad" she says with a nod. "what else did you need to get?" Zander asks her, opening the large metal door and holding it open.
Jesse steps through it "im getting paid a little extra to get one of the animals here" she says, walking down the hallway, holstering her own gun and rolling up the wad of papers she took out of the desk and handing them to Zander, not liking the texture.
"You mean a rabid dog?" she asks as she takes the papers "no. lets just go" she replies, shaking her head as she walks by Jesse's side, the clacking sound of her heels echoing through the hallway, bouncing off the cement walls. Normally a sound like that would annoy Jesse but being with Zander as long as she has, she's gotten used to it.
"If you do not like it, take the papers and i meet you at home." Jesse states, turning down the corner.
"ill stay. You like my company" Zander teases, elbowing her side.
"i don't say that" Jesse retorts, her english failing slightly. Zander, being fluent, pushes it aside, knowing what she means. "if i went off only the things you tell me i wouldn't know you at all" she says, turning around the corner with Jesse.
Both of their ears still ring from the gunshots and their heads ached. Though neither of them talked about it, Zander wondered if they kept doing things like this if they would suffer from hearing loss. She, being the type to worry more about Jesse than herself, resists the urge to ask her about it. Instead they open the door that leads into the main area where Jesse had come from.
The two large dogs were now latched onto each others necks, blood and fine dirt stain their coats as they fight. Their growls coming deep from their throats and their whimpers are overpowered by the noises of the crowd around them.
Zander forces herself to look away as the crowd yells at the dogs and each other, cheering them on. She was far more affected by it than Jesse was, but then again, this wasn't Zanders profession, it was hers. Sadly enough, it was obvious Jesse had become desensitized to things like this, and just about everything else in the world that would make any other normal person want to off themselves.
They stick to the wall, the women carefully making their way through the crowd, more eyes on Zander than she's used to. It wasn't often a put together woman showed up to these kind of things, if women at all. She felt like she was in a jail cell with fifty men and she was the only woman. Which she basically was.
Though Jesse acted as a sort of safety blanket for Zander, knowing she wouldn't let anything happen to her.
She doesn't show this on her person though. Instead she holds herself with the utmost confidence and a perfect poker face to match. The most shed give is a glare to someone if they even looked like they wanted to approach her.

She looks up to Jesse as they walk "why isn't anyone asking about the gunshots? Any sane person would be leaving this joint" she asks. Jesse looks around before spotting the door on the other side, closer to the edge of entrance that led upstairs. "gunshots are common here. They do not care and if they are smart and don't want to get shot, they leave quietly or they act like they don't hear it." she explains to her as best as she can in english, opening the door and stepping through with Zander.
Jesse looks down yet another hallway and lets out a big sigh, irritated to say the least. "lets get this over with" she says.
The first thing you can hear when entering the room are the barks of about twenty or more different dogs. The whines and their long, untrimmed claws scratching as the cages and clinks against the metal.
The hallway leads them to a large room filled with cages throughout the whole room. Jesse stops along with Zander and they both take in a deep breath.
Zander blinks a few times, disgusted by the whole ordeal before looking to Jesse to see her reaction.
Jesse stays still, looking over the room at all of the beaten up dogs. Shivering in the cold as the basement offered no protection from the outsides weather.
She swallows hard and continues to walk, looking around to see if anybody was in here. Somebody should be guarding this place right?
Both of them knew she wouldn't be getting paid as much as she was for getting the dog if it didn't come with its challenges.

When Min-Hyuk leaves the room, Seo Hyeon turns to her mother, pursing her pink lips together. "im sorry" she says to Yoori in a soft whisper.
Yoori shakes her head "don't be." she shrugs "he doesn't know me so i don't expect him to want to stay. Im surprised he's stayed this long." she says while letting out a heavy sigh. "he must really care about you."
Seo Hyeon looks back to the doorway then to her mother. "im lucky to have him" she says, sitting up and stepping over to the other side of the bed where there was more room and sits down on it. "scooch over i wanna lay down to" Seo Hyeon teases. Her mother smiles and moves to the left side of the bed, allowing Seo Hyeon to lay down beside her.
Yoori leans her head on her daughter's chest as her daughter wraps her arms around her. They pull the blanket over themselves and listen to the steady beeping of the heart monitor and the hum of the oxygen machine, its repetitive soft clicks Seo Hyeon knew annoyed her brother. Though she's come to find it comforting. Sadly enough it reminded her of her mother and how nice it felt to be by her side.
She closes her eyes and lets her mind wander, trying her best not to mind Min-Hyuk, as this was a common thing.
Not for him to cry, but for him to leave the room to destress or cool down. She didn't know what it was, but she knew how easily his emotions can be overloaded. So he always needed an escape plan in any situation he was in. So he could take time to be by himself.
It's always freaked her out since they were kids, only because she was never able to help when they were little. Now she still doesn't understand it but she's learned how to help. Though it was always a challenge from everyone around him.
Ryuu, her boyfriend, used to say it was most likely some sort of sensory overload issue if it wasn't any of his other diagnosed "disabilities" as the doctors and psychiatrists called them. She smiles at the thought of Ryuu trying his best to always help her brother.
As if Yoori could read her thoughts, she speaks up just before Seo Hyeon's pulled into the dream world. "I haven't seen your man in a while. What happened to him huh? Did you guys break up?" she asks in a soft whisper.
Seo Hyeon scrunches her eyebrows and rests her chin on her mother's head, letting out a heavy sigh. "Momma" she starts out, not wanting to say anything.
"He passed away a few months ago…" she explains, now having done this a few other times.
Seo Hyeon didn't know why her mother only remembered specific things…like how to cook, what kinds of flowers were what, Seo Hyeon, or her late husband back in Korea. Yet she didn't remember her own son or Seo Hyeon's boyfriends death.
Why did she deserve to be remembered when her brother didn't? Why does she deserve to be remembered when Ryuu wasn't remembered? Even in death?
Yoori falls silent, her heart monitor speed picking up slightly. Seo Hyeon kisses the top of her mother's head, her hair full yet stringy with thin grey hairs. "it's okay…."

Min-Hyuk blocks out any sounds around him while his face is shoved in his arms and knees, tears dripping off his hot cheeks and into his lap.
Though soon he decides to stand and get some fresh air. So he makes his way down the hallway towards the exit as they're on the first floor. He doesn't need to evade any people passing by as the few nurses that are on night shift stuck to the side and out of his way.
He turns to go outside into the parking lot, letting the automatic door close behind him after waving to the secretary at the front desk.
Min-Hyuk shoves his hands in the pockets of his read hoodie to grab out a pack of cigarettes' and a lighter.
Lighting it, he looks up into the sky as he watches the white clouds roll in, his poor eyesight not able to catch it as well anyone else. Though he refused to wear glasses nor would he wear contacts. He'd always say that it's his way of seeing the world. Though he made it up as an excuse so people would shut up about it.
He looks down from the sky and to the road in front of the hospital, then out a little further to see the blurred lights passing by on the highway as he puts the cigarette to his lips. He takes a deep breath in, letting the bitter smoke fill his lungs and warm his chest.
Exhaling, he watches the smoke fill the air around him, not bothering to wave it away. It makes his eyes water and sting a little but it calms his nerves more than anything else that he's tried. Maybe he wasn't on the right medication. He didn't know, nor did he care enough to find out. Min-Hyuk more preferred simple, temporary fixes instead of long ones. As he knew he wouldn't live much longer.

Through the smoke, Min-Hyuk sees flashing red and blue lights and panic rises in his chest. He freezes in place, looking blankly at what he quickly made out to be a police car.
"Shit" he curses before dropping the cigarette and bolting around the corner before the cops get out of the vehicle.
His pulse quickly rises and he feels it in his ears, the blood thumping in his head along with his heartbeat. He runs as fast as he can around the building, hoping to go around and come back into the hosptial. It would be much easily to evade anyone inside of a building. The trick was getting inside.
Soon he stops in front of a door to the back and a latter beside it. He quickly twists the handle to the door-or attempts to anyway. But finds himself jerked down to the cement.
"Min-Hyuk Youn. You're under arrest for the murder of Nathaniel Hayes. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say, can-and will be used against you in the court of law"

Name: Sinjoro, meaning "Gentleman" in Esperanto
Age: 9 (prime of adult life for a horse)
Gender/pronouns: Male, he/him (although he doesn't care, as long as you're nice)
Sexuality: Probably straight? (Lucky has never bothered to check)
Shipping: Umm, no. Absolutely not. Unless we add more horses, but [shrug] why?
Appearance: Sinjoro is a big Anglo-Arabian, a common French horse breed known for their speed, endurance, jumping, and long military tradition. He's got black fur over most of his body, with a white patch on his head, and a big white patch across his chest and stomach; Lukas named him "Gentleman" because he looks like he's wearing a tuxedo. He weighs roughly 1100lbs/500kg and stands 17.5 hands/70in/178cm tall at the shoulder (he's a Big Boi), making him a little taller than Lucky. Lucky keeps Sinjoro's tail and mane neat, but usually leaves them unbraided and un-styled. Sinjoro can typically be found in a black English saddle, with black saddlebags, and a blue Western-style bridle. Lukas went with black in order to keep the tuxedo look, because why not?

Personality: Sinjoro largely reflects Lucky's personality. He is gentle and laid-back, but has a feisty streak when challenged. Lukas has been kind to him, so he's extremely gentle with people and very patient. His strength and endurance have allowed him to go on most of Lucky's adventures with him. He's an outgoing horse, but will only really trust a person if he sees Lukas trust them first. He likes sugar cubes, apples, carrots, and absolutely loves plums, for some reason. He's a generally stable horse (ha), but he does spook easy in tense situations, mostly because he's trying to protect Lucky. He's gained a lot of empathy for a horse, mostly from Lukas talking to him about literally everything gong on in his life.

Backstory: One of Lucky's Scout projects as a kid was to volunteer at a local horse farm in rural France. He got to help with the birthing of a foal, but the foal was sick. The farmer assigned Lucky to help him nurse it to health, and the boy and the foal bonded so deeply, the farmer sold Lucky the foal. Not for money, but for the promise that Lucky would treat him right. Lucky has honored that promise every day, and Sinjoro has had an easy life as a result. Lucky rode regularly, trained him for local races and jumping competitions, and eventually started taking him on long camping trips up in the Pyrenees Mountains. Sinjoro came back from his early sickness and grew very large for his breed. Lucky has always packed light, and used the gentlest gear available. This made Sinjoro a strong, well-adjusted horse. However, Sinjoro has watched Lucky go through some incredibly difficult things, and has been there as an emotional support the whole time. When Lucky's dad died, and Lucky decided to go to the States for a while, Sinjoro came with him. The long voyage on the livestock transport was worth it to feel Lucky's happiness on the open plains of Wyoming. He has also done his best to comfort his grieving owner in the quiet moments.

Vera was roller blading through the streets, on and off the sidewalk. She had a helmet on her head but no knee pads or shoulder pads.
She was grinning as she sped down the sidewalk as fast as she could without stumbling over herself and falling on her face.
"WOOOHOOO!" She cheered to herself as she gave a sharp turn around the corner of the street. She hadn't thought about how people were probably sleeping and how she was being too loud for the sleeping people.
Though being one that dosent sleep much it didn't occur to her that others actually slept when they were supposed too.
She swerved in and out between traffic cones, grinning as she used a ramp to jump over some wet cement and landed on her feet.
She couldn't be enjoying her night more, well she could think of other things that would make it more enjoyable, like having her siblings with her…but that wasn't an option for her. It would still be a long time until the judges and CPS would think she was capable of being a good care taker. She just had hold on until then.
She slowed to a stop and just went on a even pace, going for a casual stroll. She was still deep and thought and started to get sad on how she missed her siblings..

(Here's the new guy replacing Kohen)

Name: Ryland Tallulah Beck
Nickname: Tallu
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Pronouns: He/Him
Sexuality: Bisexual
Race: Human, German/American

Appearance: Has somewhat hooded eyes, the shape being round and downturned. His eyes are something between blue and green, the ring outside of the iris a darker blue than the lighter shade mixing with the green. Ryland's nose is small and slightly curved, almost bordering on straight but not quite. There is a small bump somewhere along the bridge of his nose, giving it a somewhat wavy form, but nothing too noticeable. He has small bow-shaped lips, his bottom and upper lips about the same size. The shape of his face is square, with a noticeable jawline, but soft enough to make his face seem full.
Ryland's hair is straight and black, parted down the middle and he usually does nothing to it except brush it out in the morning and fluff it up some. He's never once dyed it and gets it cut regularly in a short boy cut, some parts of his hair falling at the sides of his face.
His skin is a white medium color, not really fair, but also not exactly tanned, more on the ivory or beige side. Ryland weighs 136 lbs, standing at 5'7", he has an ectomorph body type, being very boxy and thin, but not alarmingly underweight, still has some fat to him.

Clothes: Likes wearing oversized sweaters and slim-fitted jeans, normal t-shirts, but never long sleeves, even in the winter. Wears your typical converse shoes and vans, nothing too fancy just the basics.

Personality: Is a giant people pleaser, especially towards people he latches onto. It doesn't take much to get on his good side. You could do the bare minimum and he'd be all over you. Since he was a pretty lonely child growing up despite having a loving family, he takes any love he can get from anywhere. This isn't his parent's fault or even his sibling's fault, it's just what he was dealt with as a kid growing up. He also doesn't wait for love to fall into his lap, he goes after people who have shown even the slightest interest in him. Aside from being "pathetic" as Tamryn calls it, for going after him all the time, he's a pretty outgoing person who loves to party and include others in things. He tries his best to be happy and keep the mood light. He's very upbeat and kind to a fault. People take advantage of him all the time since he doesn't have any boundaries and gives and gives until he runs out. Ryland doesn't cry often despite the circumstances he finds himself in, he tries his best to be strong and take anything that comes his way. Though everyone has a breaking point, Ryland just hasn't reached his yet. When he is in one of his lower moods he's much quieter and does anything anyone tells him to just so they can leave him alone. He confides too quickly in people to the point where he wonders why they seemed so turned off by him.

Background: Ryland was born to parents who were never married and split shortly after he was born. He never got to know his father as he left when Ryland was three. He has an older sister and brother, both taking on a job unknown to Ryland as he was not allowed to know, and to this day he still doesn't know. They were never at home and when they did come back, they were beaten up and drained. Despite this, they all did a good job of keeping up with each other, making sure they had a good support system.
They used to be really close even though their jobs took out a large portion of their time together. Because of this Ryland has mostly kept to himself in recent years so as to not bother them. He knows that his siblings will be there for him if he needs them, but he wants to be able to live without depending on them all the time. Even though Ryland had loving siblings and a loving mother, he still felt very alone as a kid because his mother would be at work and his siblings at what they called a "special school" which excused their absences when they didn't come home some days. Ryland also attended school, but it was a normal public school. He grew up lonely in daycares and at home by himself most of the time as sometimes his mother didn't have the means to pay off someone to look after him.

Right now he's living in an apartment by himself which he struggles to pay every month. Ryland goes to school but doesn't work, just finding small jobs here and there to pay for the rent and bills, sometimes not even being able to buy food. It's troubling since he usually invites his "friends" out to eat a lot with the little money he's supposed to keep to get by. But his people-pleaser nature feels the need to be seen in good light with his friends even if they are just using Ryland.

(if Nyx's characters are in new Jersey you can place them there or somewhere around there as well? Bc that's on the other side of the country haha. Also, where in Wyoming would you like Vera to be? If you dont wanna be specific about towns or if you dont wanna figure it out, you can just tell me how far away youd like to be from the blast and the radiation etc.)

Honestly just place my Vera where David's characters are, and same with Thomas for others characters lol.

Tamryn flipped through the papers which were his assignments as he walked down the dark hallway of the school, the only light being given off by some lit rooms where few students stayed behind to study.
It was very late but some students decided to stay at school till it was seven am, doing their work. He stopped, looking into one of the rooms, there was a kid sitting and reading a book with his earbuds in. Occasionally he would write down something and then flip a page. Tamryn had done that once, stayed at school, studied for a bit, but had fallen asleep writing down his notes. It wasn't until it was well past seven am and a new class was beginning to take place that he had been woken up by a teacher. After that day he swore to never do that again. He had missed work because of it and in return had gotten in trouble.
Tamryn tore his eyes away and kept walking, bringing his backpack under his arm to shove his papers into. It was always partially zipped and he never used both straps which annoyed some because at any given moment all his stuff could fall out. He was never one to be organized and could care less if anything got messed up.
Tamryn made his way down the stairs and pushed open the door out into the cold night.
He let out a sigh, he had an hour to kill before he went to his job. Tamryn started down the street. Usually, he would go home and sleep right away, but something told him he should keep himself awake until it was ready to go to work. After all, if he went to sleep now he would wake up pissed and even more tired than how he felt now. It was better to get something to wake him up, like those little potions they sold in gas stations that gave you energy for five hours, energy shots. Yes, those. He needed one of those.
As he was deep into thought, he felt someone bump him at the hip, he turned to yell at the person who had bumped into him but stopped when he saw Ryland and his huge grin. Great.
"One drink" Was all he said, not even bothering to say a simple hi. "Doesn't even have to be alcoholic, just like soda or something" He offered.
"You're persistent. I've already told you, one, I'm straight, and not to mention I have work in a bit so I don't have time to go places with you" Tamryn explained.
"What? You're gonna go home and do your homework?" Ryland asked.
"No, but I'm sure as hell not spending my time with you" He let out a small laugh as if making fun of Ryland, though he said this, he was definitely starving and wouldn't mind going out somewhere with Ryland, but he wanted to see how far he could push this to get Ryland to leave him alone without making him too upset.
Ryland however was not offended and simply kept up with Tamryn. He was quiet for a second, before chiming up again.
"How about breakfast? I'll pay" He said cheerfully, if there was anything he was good at was getting others to accompany him to things if he offered to pay, it's how he lured others into spending time with him.
"Do you even have any money? You told me you don't even work so how are you going to pay?" Tamryn asked.
"I have money," Ryland said smiling but didn't elaborate where he was getting it from. Tamryn looked at him suspiciously. Ryland didn't work so what was he doing to get money? Whatever it was, he didn't want someone paying with money they had gotten in dirty ways.
"No thanks, I'll pass," Tamryn said stopping at a street light and waiting for it to change.
Ryland's smile faded a little, but never completely. He stood silently beside Tamryn. He was a little bummed out that Tamryn didn't want to go get something with him, he never did. He had been nice to him before when he had beat up the kids who were picking on him. Ryland didn't know the reason why Tamryn had done it, but he had done it nonetheless and no one had ever done something that kind for him before. Tamryn in actuality, hadn't done it for Ryland, the people who had been picking on Ryland had also been the ones that were messing with him since he seemed like a loner and had no one. So he went to give them a piece of his mind, which worked like a charm. Tamryn had done other small things for Ryland though, it was usually to make up for the fact that he had made Ryland really upset. He would do things like walk home with him when Ryland asked and tell him happy birthday when it was his birthday and buying him a bracelet. It had made Ryland incredibly happy and he wore it every day. It made Ryland like Tamryn even more even though these things were minor. The bar was really low for him.

Ryland got a little closer to Tamryn, still not saying anything.
"Why do you do that? Stop getting so close to me."
Truth was, Ryland wanted someone to hold him, it had been a while and he was touch starved, it felt lonely being used all the time. Yeah, that's right. He knew he was being used for his money and other benefits but what else was he supposed to do? No one really wanted to ever hang out with him or even be around him.
"How much do I have to give you for you to eat out with me?" He asked softly, a strained smile on his face. It was hard keeping up the happiness when he got rejected by the person he liked. Tamryn was the closest thing he had to a true friend and all he wanted to do was talk and eat and have fun. He wanted a real connection with someone.
"About 5k, something you don't have," Tamryn said seriously, but joking at the same time.
Ryland took his phone out. If he did a lot of small jobs here and there, he could save up enough to give to Tamryn, but it would take months and he wanted to do things with Tamryn much sooner. If….let's say he stopped paying his apartment, he would end up on the streets, but surely he could figure something out? Or he could open a credit card and take out a loan, then pay if off slowly.
Tamryn narrowed his eyes when Ryland fell silent as if he were actually considering it.
"You're an idiot. This is why no one wants to be friends with you, you're too desperate. So much so to the point where you'll do anything anyone asks you just to get a bit of human contact. Stop it." Tamryn scolded.
Seeing the look on Ryland's face, like he was going to cry, yet that stupid smile still on his face, made Tamryn unreasonably angry. It made him feel like a bad person like he had done something to Ryland, and he wasn't. He wasn't a bad person.
"Cry and I'll cut all contact with you." Tamryn threatened, giving him a death glare. Ryland squeezed his phone and looked away.
"I'll eat with you. But I'm choosing the place" Tamryn said, at last, to which Ryland snapped his attention back to Tamryn, eyes wide. What had he done to get Tamryn to change his mind? Did he convey enough how much he wanted to hang out with him? Or was he being nice again?
Thing was, Tamryn liked feeling wanted, he had never been put first, it was always God that was put first by his parents and family. They never put him first or thought of him or even invited him to things. He felt loved yes, but he wasn't a priority, he was put second. So having someone be so infatuated with him made him feel like he mattered just a little bit. And he wanted to keep that. Tamryn didn't know this but even if he treated Ryland like trash and didn't consider him a friend, he was stuck with him, and he had already grown to like him a lot.
If he had to eat out with Ryland to keep him around then he would definitely do that, he didn't want to lose the only person who made him feel good about himself. Because it had almost happened once. Ryland leaving. The trick was to give out just a little bit to keep them hooked, enough kindness to make them like you and stay but not too much so that they kept doing things for you, going above and beyond to get that little bit of kindness in return again. This seemed especially true with Ryland. No fool would keep up this game, but Ryland liked him too much at this point, so he didn't mind.
