Rachel sat in her living room, stroking Colt's head. She was in deep thought about well… Her life. Everything she had been through, how she struggled just to claw her way out, and for what. she had a house and a dog. She didn't need a job right now because she was a very skilled pickpocket and could just steal if she needed more money. She woke up at 3 am and wasn't able to go back to sleep because of her insomnia.
Which was annoying, because she managed to fall asleep around 12, and was hopeful she would stay asleep. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case, so she was up in her living room with Colt. She sighed and looked down at her dog. She reached down and pressed her forehead to his own, and just sat there for a few seconds. She then pulled away from him and placed a gentle kiss on his forehead.
She moved to stand up, stretching her arms out. Colt tilted his head at her as he watched her stare into the distance. She spotted Colt's leash and smirked a bit.
"Hey Colt, did you want to go on a walk buddy?" She spoke, going over to grab his leash and harness off of the hook on the wall. His face just lit up and he started wagging his tail, he bounded over to her and sat down in front of her.
she chuckled softly, moving to put his leash and harness on him and then head towards the door. She opened it and they were off, walking around at 3 am.

Jasper was stuck, stuck like she had been for what felt like forever. She had no real way to pass the time, only the words she heard from people passing by her window. they talked about strange things that she didn't understand or didn't know about. She did get to watch the seasons change, well, she didn't know they were called seasons until she heard people calling it that. There was winter, which was super-duper cold and produced snow from the sky. then there was Fall, and she didn't understand why it was called Fall. She liked to call it autumn. She heard some people calling it that and it sounded prettier than just fall. Autumn was really pretty, especially when the orange things fell off of the big, tall brown things.
There were fewer people when it was autumn…then there was spring. which didn't sound like it should be a seasonal word either, just like fall. She called it the green season. everything turned green, and even some pretty spots of purple and blue. She wanted to go outside during the green season badly. everyone else got to enjoy it but her…. but it's okay! she would get out there one day and enjoy it like everyone else. She could propose the idea that they change it from spring to the pretty green season.
The next season, and the final season. People called it summer, and she didn't understand it either. Why did people name things so weirdly? how did the word summer, convey that it was so hot during that time?
they should have called it the sunny season. Sun time! something that you knew by talking about it. Oh, yeah its sunny season, hope it doesn't get too hot this year!
it always did. Every time the sunny season came, she was sweating so much, and she stank really bad. She always felt like she was thirsty more than at any other time.
it was just that hot during the summer season.
she saw so many kids playing during the sunny season…and she wished she could join them. she wanted so badly to join them, but she couldn't call out to them. Bad men would hear….and she couldn't touch the bars because they would often get too hot, and she would hurt her hands or her face.
she sighed, knowing that it would continue to be cold for a long time and that she wouldn't get to feel the snow unless it piled up on the ground and spilled through the bars onto the floor.
it was also what the people upstairs called…the slow season. it was a horrible not fun season…she wished that it would leave as soon as it started. she knew it started when she started hearing yelling upstairs…and that was the least of her worries.
less food…and less water as well.
she curled up in a ball as she held herself, wondering when she would be rid of this cruel fate.

Shaun would find himself in this position time and time again, somewhat of a nightly tradition for him (or just insomnia.) Sitting alone in his crappy, slightly shady apartment, legs propped up on the couches arm as he endlessly clicks through channels on his small TV looking for something to watch. But that's the funny thing about living days, perhaps even only hours before a complete and utter outbreak, all anyone on these stupid channels wants to talk about is this virus that's potentially 'sweeping the nation.' yeah, sweeping the nation my ass. Shaun would rather shit in his hands and clap than actually let himself be fooled into thinking this is anything more than a hoax or some non-issue that's being blown out of proportion. Even if it is real, he muses, thinking to himself, my lonely ass would never be dumb enough to catch it.

Shaun stares at the TV with disdain as he finally just settles on some soap opera in a language he can't even begin to identify, silently cursing his luck in cable tv channels. But, it's whatever. Hes probably going to pass out soon anyways, and wake up at noon tomorrow to show up to his rank ass restaurant job (late, like always). His coworkers hate him, but he doesn't hate that, it's funny to see their souls drain further as soon as he walks his happy ass through that door. Shaun had just resigned himself to drifting off to cantonese drama shows his grandma probably would've skinned him for watching when he hears- something. At first he's not even sure he actually heard it, cracking his almost fully closed eyes open a bit further with an annoyed scowl. Then he hears it again, this slight- thudding sound, from somewhere to his right. Its not in the apartment with him, which means it's probably in the alleyway right outside his window. Thankfully he lives on the second floor so whatever crazed serial killer is probably out there wouldn't be able to get him if they tried.

So he tries to shrug it off at first, closing his eyes again. But after about 3 minutes of listening to that same thudding noise over and over, and finding it impossible to actually get sleepy again, he groans and slowly drags himself up from the couch, a genuinely pissed look on his face as he stumbles over to the window, pushing it open and leaning out of it. He's ready to yell at whatever kind of drunk or druggie that could be out there, when he pauses. Theres- he doesn't see it immediately, but realizes that the noise (now louder) is coming from directly below his window. As if he were in a shitty low budget zombie horror movie, he gulps and cranes his head downwards, the thing he sees genuinely perplexing and almost pissing him off even more. There's just. This guy, standing down there, slamming his head against the brick wall. Over. And over. Its genuinely disgusting because this guy is practically splitting his skull open, what the actual fuck is that? I mean, he doesn't even wanna yell anymore in case the guy goes fucking super saiyan on him for disturbing his weird ass ritual.

"When will it enndddd…" Cherry complained as she seemed to give up, squishing her cheek to the papers on her desk and closing her eyes. It felt like she hadn't gotten sleep in a full forty-eight hours and wanted nothing more than to go home and embrace the love of her life.
Which was her bed.

Well, it wasn't exactly the love of her life, her fiancé taking that label from anything else she frequently called the love of her life. Things like her now up-and-running library cafe, alcoholic drinks and in return clubs she frequented, books, gardens, coffee, and the more well-known one, her bed. It had become a habit to call those things the love of her life when they made her extremely happy.
But college was brutal, especially when the classes she took demanded so much of her, not to mention all the other things like her apartment and paying bills, the cafe taking most of her time outside of school-related activities.

Cherry knew that running a small business wasn't going to be an easy feat so she had requested help from a few others who actually knew what they were doing…
Not that she didn't know what she was doing! Not at all! She knew exactly what she was doing. Piece of cake. Pie. Donuts. Croissants. Pan dulce….
Cherry snapped her head back up, a few of the papers sticking to her face as she did so before they fell. The temptation of going to the back where they baked the goods strong. She had been strictly told not to take any of the pastries when the main baker found a few of them missing one time. The last straw had been when she had nearly emptied a whole tray in one night.

Barril sin fondo. They had called her which only made Cherry slightly embarrassed. I mean fine, she could admit it, she had gotten a little carried away.

There was a moment of silence as Cherry sat in her chair by the front of the cafe, mulling over her game plan, though mostly listening to see if no one was around since some of the workers stuck around even this late at night. They knew of her bad habits and tried to keep her from it, although mostly it was to prep for the next day. Still, Cherry had her suspicions.

After a second longer Cherry stood, the legs of the chair scraping loudly against the floor, it almost seeming intentional.
It was.

She walked around the large empty building, acting like she was inspecting the place, but in reality, she was eyeing the cameras, waiting for the right moment for them to turn before booking it into the kitchen.
It was fineee, it's not like eating one or two pastries would be the end of the world.
Just one.
Or two.
Welllll, maybe just three.
It would be fine. Yeah. It would be fine. She told herself as her eyes landed on some of the small square pastries, her face lighting up as a sinister smile took the place of the previous hesitant one.

"Look what the cat dragged in."
Or in this case, Jake was the cat getting dragged in. His very appropriately cat-like eyes slowly and tiredly looking up at one of the men who seemed to be the leader in all of this, almost as if to say "really?"

Currently Jake was not dressed to be fighting anyone, his tight clothes and heels being a testament to that.

Whore. They had called out to him, to which a shit-eating grin had graced his lips. Obviously, you didn't egg on those who had ill intentions toward you, but tonight Jake was in a bad mood despite the contradictory smile on his face, a laced undertone of anger as the man in front of him listed out all the things that were going to happen to him in the next few hours. It became increasingly apparent what had happened to his coworkers who were currently in the hospital recovering from their injuries. The descriptions they gave now strikingly similar to the three men around him.

Jake was no stranger to finding himself in these types of situations, it came with the job, but if there was something he knew, it was, that although his time associated with a certain gang had been short, he could get himself out of almost any shit situation he found himself in.
So when one of them approached him, now messing with their clothes, Jake's patience snapped, the room erupting into chaos as a fight broke out.

Cocky. Cocky fucking idiot. Jake scolded himself as he pressed a cloth to his shoulder which was now bleeding profusely, the other "lighter" wounds on his person making Jake wince as he moved to walk.
Jake wasn't as strong as he could be, but he wasn't scrawny either. What he lacked in strength he made up with quick thinking and playing dirty.
He huffed, a tired smile replacing his neutral expression at the thought of the enraged yet fearful looks he had received from those men when he had picked up a rusty pipe and swung. He hadn't killed the man…or at least Jake didn't think so, but he hadn't exactly stopped to check, making his exit when he had gotten a few bone-crunching hits in.
Hell, it was already three am- he didn't get paid nearly enough to put up with horny bastards who had it out for people like him.

Jake made a small groaning sound as his body pleaded with him to take himself to a hospital.
Absolutely not, he could care less if he was dying, a hospital was one of the very last places you'd see him and he would continue to keep it that way.
"Guess it's time to show up uninvited to Andre's apartment…" He muttered to himself as he looked up at the street names and forced himself onward.

Jolted awake by the sound of the dog outside barking, his voice deep and scratchy as if he had been barking forever.
She sits up, swiping her dark brown hair out of her face and trying to swallow, her mouth and throat dry.
“What time is it?” She asks Zander, her eyes still closed. The barking continued, though now followed by growls.
“Babe?” Jesse opens her eyes, having to squint this soon after just waking up. There was nobody beside her. Looking to the nightstand, her holster nor her clothes were anywhere to be seen.
“Must be outside”
She steps outside after getting dressed and rounds the RV to the dog, barking towards the cluster of trees her RV stood by. “Zander?” she calls out
Nothing.
“ZANDER!” she calls out loudly, cupping her large hands around her mouth
Still nothing?
Looking at the dog, letting out low growls towards the trees, his pointed ears perked up and his stance alert. She curses under her breath something vile in German before stepping into the trees….
Jesse hollers into the group of trees again, a crisp gust of wind rolls through the leaves and into her lungs as she steps into the small forest. Her large steel-toed boots crunch the sticks and the frosted, dead grass underneath her. She holds her machete by her side, alert and ready to fight even though she doesn’t know who she will be going up against.
She stops in her tracks, only about two yards into the trees before she hears a rustle in the brush, footsteps coming from the distance “Zander?” she calls out again, her loud voice laced with worry as she makes her way deeper.
Low growls are heard from somewhere nearby, though Jesse isn't sure which direction it came from. “Who’s there?” she calls out before being pushed forward by a strong, sharp force. She stumbles forward, quickly swinging around, though not with her machete. Not yet. The second she sees what had pushed her, her instincts kick in and she swings down on the being as it growls and swings its arms at her. A woman she knew from one of the trailers next to her in a bloody dress, half of her jaw hanging on by a single muscle, her tongue hanging out of the same side of her mouth, black, bloodstained, and broken teeth setting on what was left of her jaws. Her eyes a ghastly grey color and her skin a pale yellow, covered in dirt and cuts. However, what stood out the most to Jesse was the missing arm and chunks of her scalp and hair missing from her skull.
Swinging the machete into her shoulder, the woman didn't seem to be phased. Jesse kicks the woman in the chest, dislodging the machete and swinging again, sensing the animalistic aggression radiating off of the woman. How was she not dead?
This time she hits her neck, pulling it out and swinging it again, slicing her head clean off. She looks at the woman's body as it takes another step before collapsing to the ground, the head rolling away from the body and landing at Jesse’s feet.
The head still attempts to jaw at Jesse’s feet before she stomps on it a few times with all of her weight, crushing the skull, blood now everywhere.
Shaken to her core, Jesse presses her back against a tree, breathing hard. She’s seen some shit but nothing quite like this. That woman was dead. No doubt about it. Or at least she should have been.

Min-Hyuk grunts, trying to shake out of the man's grasp as cuffs are clicked around his wrists, his face pressed hard against the cold cement, small pieces of rocks getting in his mouth and nose. Suddenly everything stops. The pressure of the large policeman's knee on his back released with a jerk back.
Quickly rolling onto his back to make a break for it, Min-Hyuk was sure he’d have a chance, thinking the cop had simply gotten off of him and had his back turned. But when his vision changed from cement and the cop's foot in his face to his surroundings, he was greeted with a horrifying sight. The man who had been holding him down lay on the ground, screaming bloody murder. Literally….
A lanky person crouched over him, their arm elbow deep into his ribcage, blood spurting out and intestines wrapped around the person's arm. The other hand, from what he could tell in the short time he had to gather himself and deal with what he was witnessing, he could tell had no fingernails, looking as if they had been ripped off and their fingers drove down his throat as the policeman screamed, pulling out his tongue and taking a bite. The officer struggled, legs squirming, kicking the figure.
Min-Hyuk blinks once.
Twice
About 5 times before rubbing his eyes and finally bringing himself to his feet, trying not to fall, his knees trembling underneath him.
Before running away from the strange, rabid man, Min-Hyuk’s eyes lock onto the man's gun on his hip, like a dog with a rabbit. But how was he going to get a hold of it? He certainly didn't want to end up like Mister Piggy over here (his words not mine)
So with that, his hands still cuffed, he kicks the man over, away from the lifeless body of the officer. It stumbles back, hitting its head on the ground before growling, now facing Min.
“I did not think this through…” he says to himself before dropping to the ground, trying to unholster the gun while his hands are cuffed behind his back. “Shit shit shit shit’
Almost having the firearm secured, he finally gets a good look at the man, now lunging at him with missing teeth, half of a tongue in his mouth, and bloodshot, yet smoky white eyes. Min retches, stifling a cough and trying to keep the contents of his stomach inside of him where they belong.
“Oh you’re an ugly son of a bitch” he says before kicking it away, this time at one of his kneecaps, breaking his leg and sending him toppling over Min-Hyuk.
He gasped, not thinking through what he had just done, still not comprehending what was happening in general. Rolling over to his side, now having the gun out of the holster but still behind his back, he uses his knee and his other leg to push the being off of him and bring himself to his feet once more.
Taking one more look at the person, now crawling at Min-Hyuk, gurgling blood from its throat.
Min leans forward, puking on the dirty cement before stumbling backward, turning his body around, and running away as fast as he could, not knowing where. Anywhere but here.

Soon Min-Hyuk turns a corner and finds an old gas station, another one of those things sporting a cheap-looking gas station uniform stands outside one of the pumps.
“Shit… I've got to get these fuckers off,” he thinks to himself, referring to the cuffs.
With more gasps of air than heavy breaths, Min-Hyuk slowly walks around to the back door
“Ha, lazy ass gas station workers,” he says, finding the heavy metal door cracked open. He wedges his foot in between the door and the frame, opening it with a loud “creeeaak”
“Great, just basically told this underpaid shit to come fuck me” he curses once again to himself before slipping in.
The back of the gas station is dark, stale smelling and…quiet. Too quiet.
That is until Min-Hyuk stops in his tracks, unable to see through the dark room, his messy tangle of hair in his eyes.

Jasper noticed something was different today, there was a musky smell coming from the usually crisp cold air. She frowned, wanting to find out what was ruining the air, and she did not expect to see anything other than a dead bird, or a different animal. What she saw, was a walking corpse. Blood dripped out of their mouth as they staggered across the pathway. The eyes of the corpse were pearly white orbs, their skin was pale with a sickly green tint. some of it was falling off of the face, revealing the muscle and blood under the skin. The clothes they had been wearing in shreds, were hardly able to be recognized. blood soaked through what remained, a bite wound clear for everyone to see. She stood there, trembling on her little stack of boxes.
she heard people start screaming, running in panic.
It turned to look at her, and she stumbled back too far and fell off of her boxes onto the ground. She couldn't hardly feel the pain in her rear, because of how much she was shaking and how terrified she had felt. she hadn't felt that fear in years.
She sat there staring at her little window, listening to the panic and the chaos going on outside. She could hear the screams of people, and things being knocked over. people probably getting trampled.
A lady fell, at her window. She tried to crawl for it, screaming for Jasper to help her. Before Jasper could even register the lady, the creature pounced on her from behind, and the lady let out an ear-piercing scream. The creature dug into the lady, and blood came dripping the window, and splattering on Jasper's face, eyes wide.
She trembled violently, screaming as the creature spotted her and tried to squirm his way through but couldn't quite make it. She scooted back into the cell bars that kept her inside.
"HELP!" she screamed, and sure enough men with guns came inside the basement area and shot the creature, right in the skull. it soon enough went limp, and she started sobbing.
"Please- please take me out of here! I swear! I swear I'll be good!" she begged with the men, who looked at each other. Before one eventually sighed and unlocked the door, and she scrambled out of it. She was quickly grabbed, and they all moved up the stairs.
she hadn't been up the stairs in she didn't know how long, she was quickly shoved into a room with no window, and a bed, and the door was locked behind her. She moved to the corner of the room and curled up in a ball. she started crying again, and a little mouse came out from inside her clothes and nuzzled up to her face. she picked her up in her hands and just held her close.

Angela would normally be asleep at this time she was just walking up the front steps to her townhouse, she'd just gone on her late night jog because she couldn't sleep.
She unlocked the door and stepped inside and was instantly greeted by a sleepy miso, "hey buddy, did I wake you up?" She said sweetly as she crouched down to pet the black and white cat. Music responded with quite pitiful meow before running up the stairs which were right in front of the door. She smiled before slipping of her shoe's and locking the door then following after him. Once she reached her bed she flopped down next to the fluffy cat she called her friend and he nuzzled against her face, she laughed and rolled over so she could hold him. It wasn't too long till misi finally started to doze off Angela not too far behind him.

(Sorry this is so short! I've been really slammed with school work and trying to hang out with my partner 😪)
