(Poor James. Lol.)
Rose sat on the edge of the fountain with a huff. She looked out over the garden, then realized that she didn't really want to be there.
But where do I want to be?
What about going for a ride? You've got a horse for a reason, you know.
Rose sighed and stood. Maybe I will go for a ride… Clear my head a bit.
Gerard stepped out into the garden. "Rose?" He called softly. She better not go on a ride…
Gerard. Great. My father probably sent him to keep an eye on me. Does no one trust me?
Rose rolled her eyes at her thoughts and called to Gerard, "I'm over here, by the fountain."
Gerard made his way to where she was sitting. "By the look on your face you have already guessed why I am here."
"It's not hard. I mean, I left and then you came after me. My father obviously sent to to make sure I didn't do anything stupid," Rose said with a shrug. She looked in the direction of the stables and wondered if she would be able to get that ride. "I just needed to be alone for a bit."
"So you can go and take a ride in the woods by yourself. Not happening."
"Who said anything about riding? Or being in the woods?" Rose asked, facing Gerard again. "I don't know if you remember this, but I almost died the last time I went into those woods. I'm not thinking about going back there any time soon."
Gerard squinted. "Yes, but the last time you got upset at me you went for a three hour ride in the woods. I wouldn't put it past you."
"I'm not going to the woods, Gerard," Rose huffed, standing and starting to pace. "If I were to go on a ride, it would be almost anywhere but the woods." She hid her trembling hands behind her back, clasping them together.
James hastily explained himself to the groomsman, who still looked like he thought James was insane.
“Umm… okay, your highness,” the groomsman said. “But, uh… you do know that the ‘dragons’ were a false alarm, right?”
James muttered a curse under his breath. “Right. That would’ve been great information before I sent my men, fully armed, into the village. If you’ll excuse me…” He ran off.
