"Do you understand, Mr. Marchbanks?" The teacher got dangerously close to Sisi's concentrated-on-not-crying profile.
Sisi nodded and said in a dry, muffled voice, "Yes, ma'am."
"Good." She straightened up away from him and walked to the front of the class.
"Now… what were we discussing yesterday is incredibly important to the study of trigonometry…"

Sisi inhaled gently and turned his face back to the front, blinking his eyes wildly. Don't cry… don't cry… no one cares…

Unasa looks both ways to see if the evil teacher is distracted; he passes the kid who had been hit a candy. I hope this doesn't get me in trouble. He thinks. Making sure the teach is still preoccupied, he goes back to doing his work.

The chain of the candy-passing got filed, however, since no one really liked Sisi. Instead, a particularly rude note was passed to him.

Sisi crumpled up the note in his hand, choking back a lump in his throat. One of the kids behind him smirked and poked the back of his tawny head with their pencil.

Shit! It didn't get to the poor kid. He seethes as he glares angrily at Abner Gosh darn it Abner. Why are you such an ass?! Unasa decides that he would pass the kid another sweet when they got out of class.

Abner leaned forward to poke Sisi again, who inhaled and shut his eyes.
