This is pretty general. Try out your characters in a New York background, make a mess, create plot holes. Just practice here. Write, create, use those beautiful brains.

"Okay, so can I have a soy caramel latte with an extra shot, please?"
"Sure, what size?" The barista at the counter had snakebites, and auburn blonde hair. She was the sort of girl that I would have liked to draw, with defined cheekbones and bright eyes.
"A small, please."
"That'll be $3.25, miss." She says, and I place a five dollar bill in her hand. Once I get my change, I drop a quick smile and a thank you, then go across the room to wait for my coffee to be done.
Gavin rode his bike around Central Park, narrowly avoiding a couple walking their dog. "Sorry." He muttered as he passed them. Both of his friends, Katie and Octavia, were out for the weekend so he was by himself. He had his headphones plugged into one of his ears, riding as he listened to The Monkees.
The lady at the counter calls out my order and places my cup down on the counter just as the chorus in Bastille's Good Grief starts through my left headphone. It's overcast and a bitter sort of cold outside, and through the glass windows of the shop, the skyscrapers of Manhattan look like shadows.

She got kicked out, lived on the streets for awhile before finally managing to get her own tiny apartment and stuff. She's legally living on her own now. Also had an older brother who ran away as soon as he turned eighteen, hasn't heard from him in a long time.
