Simon nodded, and his expression was understanding. “I can see why…” he murmured. “The ocean and spirits? I can tell you firsthand that it’s a terrifying mix.”

"Firsthand?" Kaye repeated, his head tilting to the side curiously at the other man's comment. He had some suspicions about Simon being something supernatural, but he would never ask them directly.

@blue_topaz

“Mm.” Simon’s shoulders were now tense, but his face was a mask of neutral calm. “My dad had a boat,” he said by way of explanation, though it was far from the truth.

"By the harbor? Or did you and your family live further from here," he asked, part of him imagining what Simon's parents must look like. Perhaps the same, with blonde curls and watery blue eyes, though he soon grew distracted by Simon's appearance, dismissing his thoughts and resuming his gaze on the other.

@blue_topaz

Much further…. Barely covering up a snort, he hastened to reply. “We lived in a small fishing town a few hours away.” Simon couldn’t help a tiny smirk at the irony. “I moved here a few years ago. What about you?”

Deleted user

"A couple months ago," Kaye answered with a shrug as he glanced around the diner, noticing that the moody waitress was making their way back over towards the table. His apartment proved that he hadn't been here for long, with its blandness and lack of decor…or anything really.

@blue_topaz

"Enjoying this… wonderful place so far?" he questioned wryly, following the other man's eyes to where their delightful waitress was returning, arms laden with steaming plates. Simon's stomach growled.. it had been ages since he'd eaten that much. "Dear god, that looks delicious."
(just for laughs [and jealousy], what if the waitress asked for one of their numbers? would that be totally out of character?)

Deleted user

(ooh, i like that, and that'd be good for plot. who's should she ask for?)

"I'm loving this place," Kaye hummed, a soft sigh escaping him when he saw the food arrive. It was about time. Though, talking with Simon had almost made the time pass by a lot faster, as if the waitress had only left a few minutes ago with their orders. "I just wish she could walk faster," he added with a small chuckle as he glanced over towards Simon.

@blue_topaz

(XD. up to you, I don't mind either way)

Simon let out a snort, eyes glimmering with amusement for a split second. "Agreed," he muttered humorously, adopting an innocent expression when the waitress– finally– stopped in front of them. She set the food down, seeming strangely….. nervous?

Deleted user

(should we do kaye? i think i have a response planned out lol)

"Thank you," Kaye exclaimed, though it came out as more of a sigh as he glanced up towards the waitress before back towards the food. She continued to set a few platters down, seemingly lingering by the table a bit longer.

@blue_topaz

(kk)

Simon raised a questioning eyebrow at her, though he was mostly focused on the food that had been set in front of him. "Thank you," he told her, but she evidently had other ideas.

Wringing her hands, she turned abruptly to Kaye and blurted out a stream of words. "Can I have your number?"

Deleted user

Kaye had barely registered the fact that the waitress had spoken to him, halfway to picking up a fork, though he stopped abruptly and glanced up towards her. Had he heard right? "My number?" He repeated, a brow raising in question, his attention now trained on the girl.

@blue_topaz

Simon was currently struggling under the onslaught of a massive wave of– was that jealousy? No, couldn't be…

The waitress swallowed, eyes darting everywhere. "Yeah."

Deleted user

Kaye tilted his head towards the girl, a charismatic and almost…confident grin crossing his features, extremely tempted to look over towards Simon. What was his reaction to this? Maybe he could give this waitress his number– she was cute after all– though something felt like it was stopping him.

"I definitely would. Except," Kaye started with a small sigh as he motioned towards Simon. "I'm on a date with him." Of course, it was a lie, though it was the best thing he could come up with without embarrassing the waitress…though another part of him wanted to gauge Simon's reaction to all of this.

@blue_topaz

Simon choked on his own spit. His eyes widened, darting from Kaye to the waitress, an almost panicked light coming to life in them. What?? Did I miss some serious social cue?? He hated his heart for pounding so loudly, hated himself for almost— almost— wishing what Kaye had said was true.

A dark scowl crossed the waitress’s face. “Oh. I’ll leave you be then. Sorry.” She turned on her heel and left the two alone.

Kaye turned towards Simon once the waitress left, an almost devilish smile on his lips, though it quickly turned innocent. "What?" He asked, a bit teasingly as he watched the other man, noticing how shocked they seemed to be. Were they embarrassed…or flat out surprised? Maybe angry? Unfortunately, Kaye had a hard time picking up on peoples expressions and pairing them to emotions.

@blue_topaz

To put it plainly, Simon was incredibly confused. No, that was an understatement. At this point, he was beyond confused. “What— What was that about?!” he managed, several different emotions passing over his expression. “Explain.”

Deleted user

Confused. Definitely confused, he decided once Simon stammered out an answer. "I needed an excuse," the other man shrugged as he tapped his fingers against the edge of the table, using this fidgeting as he thought. "I mean…this could be a date if you wanted it to be." And once again, Kaye's words escaped him, and he quickly realized that he had begun flirting with Simon again…even if it was discreetly.

@blue_topaz

Fuck. No. Yes. Stop messing with my goddamn head— He cut the thought off before he could blurt it out, mouth opening and closing several times. Finally, he pushed himself up and out of his seat, swallowing. “I’m going to the washroom. I’ll be right back.”

Deleted user

"Simon–" Kaye started, though quickly cut himself off as the other man began to leave the table. He received a few glances from the diner, even one from the waitress from earlier, though easily ignored them, instead watching Simon's retreating form. You shouldn't have said that. Would Simon be mad at him now? Were they even mad?

@blue_topaz

Enclosed in the safety of the bathroom, Simon had no idea what to do. Punch a wall? Sag against said wall? Return to Kaye? Apologize? Goddammit. His hands fluttered in the air, unsure where to move. “Goddammit.”

Deleted user

Still seated in the small booth, Kaye wasn't sure what he should do. He didn't feel like eating since he was worried about Simon…which was an odd feeling for him. He usually didn't pay much attention to others, usually too socially blind to notice anyway. So, instead, Kaye continued to sit there awkwardly, tapping the wooden table as a way to busy himself as he glanced around the diner a few times, feeling eyes on him.

@blue_topaz

After a few minutes, Simon gave up. He’d have to face Kaye eventually, give him an answer…. though he still didn’t know what that answer was going to be. Barely resisting the urge to check his reflection in the mirror, he exited his makeshift safe haven and returned to the table.
