Kissing Vera felt right. Not like his eighth grade bash where Brittany Jackson went in for a kiss. Not like ninth grade when Cath Austin kissed him under the spotlight of Spring Formal. It was sweet and soft and it felt like they were falling in love all over again.
Vera’s hands were tucked underneath her, resting on Tay’s chest as something sweet and warm filled her. No Vera what are you doing?!?!?!, her brain screamed at her. She pulled away gently, taking a deep breath. “Tay..”, she whispered, voice betraying the internal conflict in her.
"Vera?" Tay went down from his tippy-toes.
Tears sprang to her eyes. “I— I don’t know what to do— I—“
Tay wiped Vera's tears, "Don't cry. We can work through this together."
Vera leaned into his touch, eyes glazed with desperate tears. “It’ll ruin everything for you, Tay, I can’t just—“ She took a deep breath, wanting him so much it hurt. “Someone saw what happened at the arcade.”, she whispered. This was all her fault.
"It-it's not that important?" Tay said, mostly to himself.
Vera shook her head, forcing herself to take a step backwards. “If I don’t stay away from you, they’ll go to the police. That was the promise. It would go on your record, Tay, your whole future would be ruined.” She choked.
"What kind of miserable future would I have if it didn't have you in it?" Tay smiled at Vera, "Now let's go catch up, Felix and Kamè are probably waiting."
“But—“ Vera gave up, warmth rushing through her. They quickly caught up to Felix and Kamè, Vera blushing at the looks on their faces.
Kamè grinned and patted Tay's shoulder while Felix attempted a wink.
Vera blushed furiously, averting her eyes.
Felix smiled, "I remember my first kiss with Marya. It was sweet and soft and felt like it was just us in the world."
Kamè flicked the back of Felix's head, "C'mon dude, it's Tay's turn to tell us all about it." he turned towards Vera, "Unless you want to tell us about it too."
Vera’s whole face went red Oh god they’re going to tell Bridge about this I’ve ruined everything what do I do?!?! She swallowed. “Um… it— I—he—-it was nice.”, she somehow managed to stammer our, finishing lamely.
Kamè smirked, "Nice, huh?" from behind him, Tay blushed furiously.
More than nice… Vera pushed the thought away. “Are— Aren’t we here to eat?”
Kamè grinned, "Exactamundo, girl! Let's book!"
Vera felt a rush of relief at this, paired with a sinking guilt in her stomach. You ruined everything, Vera. You have to make it up to him. If Bridge reports the arcade scene, take all the blame. “I can’t stay for too long, though, my sister needs me to call her.” At least a this was not all untrue, she usually called her sister a few times a week.
Kamè smiled, "S'all okay, dudette."
(I’m back for a sec)
They got a table, Felx and Kamè strategically positioning them selves so that Bera and Tay ended up sitting together.
They secretly bumped fists while Tay just sat and smiled at Vera.
(Aaand I have to go again)
Vera blushed under Tay’s gaze, secretly wanting to kiss him again. She cleared her throat. “So, how’d you three meet?”
Kamè smiled and patted Felix's back. "Me and Tay go way back, kindergarten, y'know? These kids was tryin' to bully me, but like, Tay stepped in like he some kinda hero or somethin'. He does that a lot."
Felix piped up, "I was a new kid and Marya..she introduced me to Tay and Kamè."
(I’m back again for just a sec)
“So, Who’s this Marya?”, Vera asked, feeling sorry for Felix.
