Davy grinned crookedly. "Touche. Still, I'm an officer with privileges, and you're just lowly foot-soldiers. You'd be in much more trouble than me if you got caught." He sauntered over to them, casually inspecting the cells as he went. "Well well, looks like we've got a pretty major operation going on here. If I'm not mistaken, it was our friend Sabrino who oversaw the delivery of these lovely monsters. Funny, I sort of expected to hear from you about this a little sooner, considering I asked you to keep tabs on him and everything."
"Huh." Ellen frowned slightly, keeping her knife raised. She really hated his smug attitude. "Must've slipped our minds. And it's not like we could just slip away to play spy for you.""
He raised an eyebrow. "And yet somehow you're able to slip away and scope out this place? Impressive. Like what you see?"
Vin glanced around again. "Not really….what are they?"
Davy shrugged. "A new plan of attack, looks like. I've heard about these freaks before but never seen so many in one place. My guess is that the army wants to set 'em loose on the enemy camp at some point. You saw what the big guys here did to the mess hall. Think what a whole crew at full strength could do."
Destroy growled at him. "Let me out and I'll show you what I can do."
"Er…no thanks, pal."
(gotta go now, sorry. I probably won't be back on until tomorrow)
(Hooray!)
Ellen scowled, not saying anything.
Vin looked at Davy rather helplessly. "So…are you gonna tell on us?"
Davy shrugged. "Are you gonna tell on me? Seems like neither of us can really snitch without gettin' in trouble ourselves."
Ellen sighed. A freaking impasse. "Well, I don't know about you boys, but I think if we stand here any longer we're bound to be caught. I don't know what you," She pointed at Davy with her knife, "Are doing here, but Vin and I are helping these people bust out of prison."
Davy made an incredulous noise. "Really? Prison? Missy, they ain't in prison! They're locked up here for our protection! Do you have any idea what would happen if you let out even one of these sods? It would tear you both to pieces. They're basically wild animals, you know, and not nice at all."
"They're scared and confused," Vin argued. "It's not right that the army's treating them like this. We can't just leave them."
"Right, well, when you think of a plan to set them free without dying, tell it to me. I could use a good laugh."
Ellen glared at Davy before glancing at Vin. They hadn't had much of a plan other then simply opening the cages.
(I gtg do the dishes. brb)
(Okay)
Vin hesitated. "Um…" he looked at Destroy, who was watching silently. "Look, let's just promise not to tell on each other and get out of here. It's not like it matters to you what our plans are anyway."
Davy sighed. "It only matters if you still want my help if and when you get out of here. But, since you seem to be disinterested in that little bargain…" he turned and headed for the exit. "You're on your own, okay? Don't come crying to me when literally everyone wants you dead." The he was through the door and gone.
"Don't worry, I won't." Ellen muttered. She leaned closer to Vin, and lowered her voice. "I do think we need to think of a more cautious way to free these guys."
"Yeah." Vin massaged his forehead. "Let's try again tonight, after curfew. How does that sound?Maybe while they're all asleep we could just…unlock the doors and leave before they realize."
"I doubt they'll be sleeping, but okay." Other doubts bubbled to the front of Ellen's mind, but she kept quiet.
"Ok. In that case let's get back to the mess hall before we're caught and sentenced to KP duty for the rest of our lives."
Ellen nodded. She walked over to the door and peered out. "All clear."
Vin followed, taking care to turn off the lights and lock the door behind them. "Okay go go go!"
They dashed across the yard and slipped back into the mess hall.
It was empty except for a few cooks cleaning up. Vin grimaced. "Shoot. The training yard, quick."
They dashed across the yard.
The other soldiers were already in the thick of training when they got there. Sully spotted them and fixed them with a rather evil eye. " Solders! Unless you were both sick or called to an emergency meeting with the general himself, your lateness is unacceptable! Twenty pushups!"
"Yes sir!" Ellen and Vin ran over to the group. Ellen dropped down and started her pushups.
