(Sounds good to me!)
(Ahhhhh I love it!! This is the first time someone has actually drawn one of my characters and I am geeking out)
(I love it so much!)(you did so well too omg)(the characters are so accurate oml I did not expect you to draw everybody XD)(Onyx’s “I can’t see -_-“ killed me)
Jax stood himself up and smiled at Cass, letting him know how much he appreciated the gesture. "To live, I've done a lot of horrible things. I suppose that's how the circle of life works." He shrugged as he recalled the many precious animals he had to slaughter for food. His adorable one-year-old was a big fan of rabbits. But, in order to survive, Jax had to kill those rabbits. He was always on his own for a short period of time, pissing off people and getting kicked out. "It's understandable, Cass. Anyone, believe me, would go to any length for their child. Giving your child a fighting chance is not immoral." Jax took a deep breath and almost fell over. "It's been years since I've heard someone say they were proud of me." After hearing Fia's footsteps waddle into the kitchen, he dropped to Fia's level instead of dealing with another issue that required him to take better care of himself. When the kid was told she could stay, Jax smiled and stood. "The food will provide you with a great deal of strength and energy." He didn't have a lot of experience with children. “Fia! Careful not to put too much food in your mouth at once; you might choke!" His protective instincts, on the other hand, contradicted that. He wasn't a mama bird like Cass, but more of a 'I'm also looking out for your kid' type with hawk-like eyes.
Cass stays by Jax in case he loses his balance again, though watching his daughter at the same time. To him, it felt like he had become a dad for another kid. Except for this kid was a grown man. And he was perfectly fine with that. Cassius enjoyed taking care of people and he knew that Jax deserved to be taken care of. To be loved.
He jumps at Jax's words, startled by the urgency. She looks up at Jax as she swallows her food, started as well as she starts to cough. Cass quickly gets down to Fia's level and starts patting her back as she coughs. Though before Cass can do anything the food comes up and out and she stops choking.
"Hey baby? You okay?" He asks, one hand on her bowl in case she drops it and the other on her back. She nods before going to take another bite.
"ah, why don't we slow down a bit okay?" he says softly. "just so you don't choke again"
(sorry its shorter im in a rush)
Jax grabbed onto Cass' arm. "I'm fine, Cass. I swear." He let go of Cass' hand and looked worriedly at Fia. His admonition had turned into astonishment. He may have frightened Fia into choking, and oh, how he felt bad about it. He hid half of his face in the kitchen's shadows. "I apologize; I was attempting to help, but I may have startled her into choking. I'm not very good with children." Every time he tried to help, things seemed to go wrong. While Cass was caring for Fia, Jax sneaked out the front door, desperate for a breath of fresh air. He sat on the porch step, staring off into the distance. Jax couldn't see anything that looked like it might be alive, but he didn't want to talk to anyone anyway. He heard a faint ruffled in the nearby foliage, but didn't give it much thought. It was possible that it was a squirrel. But, as far as he knew, squirrels didn't make puppy noises. He didn't dare to look to see if it was a domestic animal. They could afford to take care of something else. Jax was already overwhelming. He cocked his head to the left, his eyes wide with wonder. He discovered a small fox kit and a zombie. Oh, great, the zombies have found their way over here. Maybe it was just a wanderer. In any case, he skewered it with a stick and then jumped back when its head fell off. Gross. The red fox kit was picked up by Jax. He had no intention of taking care of a fox. It was self-sufficient. It didn't require the care of a 21-year-old.
Cass stays kneeled down to his daughters level "oh it's alright Jax. You didn't know" he says calmly, his eyes still on Fia to make sure she's alright.
Finally standing, he turns around to see Jax gone and he furrows his brows. He knew he heard Jax's footsteps towards the front door and guessed he went out there.
Thats weird. He thinks to himself as he gets Fia a small glass of water. He turns around to her "heres something to drink" he says ruffling her hair as she takes it.
"Im gonna step outside alright? You wanna come with?" he asks. She nods of course, already making her way over to the front door and waiting in front of it for Cassius to open it. With her hands full, she slips through the front door before its fully open and steps out onto the porch, spotting Jax. She hops up on the porch swing on the side of their porch and swings her legs back and forth as she continues to eat. Cass looks over to Jax "hey" he calls out to him "what's up?"
He knew Jax might have felt guilty for making Fia choke, but Cass knew he didn't mean to.
Jax sat back on the porch, petting the tiny kit and pondering where he should put it. He'd been lost in his own thoughts for a few days. He was completely unaware of what he was doing. Jax wondered what lay beyond this property as he stared off into the distance once more. Perhaps if he ventured a few miles south, he'd find people. His head swung around to face Cass as the sound of the door creaking open startled him. When he saw Fia, Jax placed the fox kit in a small divot in the ground out of the child's sight. Cass, he reasoned, wouldn't want to deal with a six-year-old who wanted to keep an animal. That was, however, just Jax. He shrugged off his fantasies about what might have been. "Hi. I'm just sitting here, taking in the view of the blue skyline. I took out a lone zombie. I discovered a kit." Jax offered him a warm smile. "I enjoy being outside. It's comforting." Perhaps it was because he grew up in the woods. Jax rose from his place on the porch and approached Cass at the door. "I was taking a breath of fresh air. I just needed to get my thoughts straight." He considered leaving, but he realized that venturing into the unknown would almost certainly kill him. "I wanted to go on a journey, but I knew it would kill me. Is it possible for me to do some busy work? Like landscaping and cleaning up the area, for example. I have to keep myself occupied." He wasn't sure if this was a reasonable request. Because of the state he claimed Jax was in, Cass probably thought it was too much. Jax took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. He was taken off guard by the sound of the fox kit mewing.
(yesss! i can see them becoming good friends :D ksdjfhdk that just cracked me up XDD)
Cherry's eyes widened as she watched Jesse disappear behind the other side of the van. Did she say something wrong? Maybe she hadn't liked the "intimidating" part….stupid. Of course, she hadn't, who would? She would apologize. It was important for her to not come off as someone rude.
Cherry suddenly froze. A bigger thought hit her. Maybe Jesse didn't identify as a lady and she got the pronouns wrong? Oh no.
She wouldn't like it if others misgendered her and maybe Jesse identified as something else like they/them or he/him, what did she know? She barely knew these people and she was already forgetting her manners. Cherry mentally beat herself up for it. Of course, Jesse also hadn't said anything. Maybe they weren't the talkative type? Jesse seemed to not like the idea of Cherry being there one bit and Cherry knew why. She was painfully aware, but the fact that they hadn't turned her away meant they were good people- well, that was yet to be seen, they could fake appearances, Cherry knew that much. Perhaps it was because she had a group to get back to that they thought she was worth keeping…
What would happen though? If they did help her find her group, would they join them too?
She sighed. Did it even matter if they did? What was she so scared of? Being accused of killing off the group that went scouting with you. Yeah, that. How was she supposed to defend herself against that? Even if they knew that wasn't the case she knew that they would use anything to get her thrown out.Cherry looks over to Clovis as he keeps talking, her head still turning with questions. Ah, that makes sense.
"Yeah, it appears to be so," Cherry said quietly, though still feeling like she was the cause of this.
When Onyx spoke up Cherry nodded, still hesitating a little.
"Sorry for the trouble…it's not my style to intrude, but" She forced a smile. "I don't have anywhere to go and I'm afraid I might not make it out there" She confessed.
"I'll take anything you give me, even if it's just water," She said. Cherry never liked to take from others, even now when things were dire, it didn't sit well with her.
"And if you don't mind me asking…what are your pronouns? I know it's a little bit of a weird question being in this situation and all and asking questions like that, but it's something very important to me that I get right, and I'm sorry if it seems dumb!! I just don't want to disrespect any of you- I feel like I might have gotten it wrong with Jesse" She said, her thoughts coming out in a hurry as she frantically tried to get her head screwed on right.(and don't worry about your responses not being long!! i'm a-okay with that :))
(Thank you all for being so patient with me lately, life is a bit of a wreck and I’ve been really sick)(I hope Clovis and Ryder content makes up for it :’))
Clovis gives a soft, reassuring smile after she apologizes for the trouble, “Don’t worry about it. You’re no trouble.” He pauses with her question, though, a little caught off guard. In the apocalypse, it was one of the last things he’d expect someone to say. Not to mention he’d never actually been asked his preferred pronouns before. He rubs the back of his neck, “he/him is fine, thank you.”
Oh, isn’t it rude not to return the question?
“What- What are yours?” He asks, now questioning whether or not Jesse was angry about that.
Onyx furrows his brow, his arms crossed as they spoke.
She must feel like she’s walking on eggshells, what with all this worrying about what we’re all thinking. I mean, I don’t blame her feeling that way around Jesse. Hm. I know she’s hiding something, but besides that is she just awkward? Self conscious? I need to figure out what she’s hiding to know what behavior correlates to it.
He looks to the side, thinking hard about the route to take or what to say to get her to out herself. What would his mom do?
(Yooo, that'd be so cool to see! But that certainly sounds like a plan)
(Should I make a time skip post for us then? Is that ok?)
(That's okay by me)
(Yeah, you guys can time skip :))
Jesse ignored the group for a few more minutes while they talked, not interested in being a part of it.
She looks out across the field, then back towards the forest next to them. She could go towards the city down south, but that's where she came from and she didn't quite like the idea of going back there. If she got really unlucky she would even run into other human beings.
Definitely wanting to avoid that, she decides it would be best for them to head north instead, as that's where she was planning on going anyway. Following the road might or might not be a good idea, but either way, she wanted to take her RV with her. She knew there was for sure gas at the city though so maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to make a trip there and stock up.
Jesse lets out a soft sigh and turns around to see the new group of people that stood near the edge of the road and the large cluster of trees, annoyed by all of them right now. She rolls her eyes "why would any of that be important in the apocalypse?" she asks, finding it absurd. `
"We need to get moving. Tell me when you are ready" she huffs.

Cassius sits down on the porch steps, the white paint flaking off of it, as its been worn down over the years to reveal the old brown wood. He looks over to the trees in the distance as the gusts of wind spills through the leaves, admiring how beautiful the world had become.
There may be the dead eating flesh left and right, leaving nothing but blood and heartache behind them, but because of this, the grass had overgrown the fields, beautiful vines and ivy covering the empty buildings. Flowers able to grow where they want without vehicles to flatten them against the cold ground. Animals were able to cross roads safely and explore without the worry of being shot. Though now they had to worry about being eaten alive.
Cassius always tried to look on the bright side of things which wasn't always easy. But he did it for Ophelia most of all. If he let himself get into his head like so many do, what would happen to Fia?
He snaps himself out of his thoughts and turns to Jax "yeah i can. Actually it looks like the sun has outdone itself and dried up most of the mud already." he stands, stepping up off of the stairs and onto the porch "Would you guys want to take a trip up to the stream? It's quite beautiful this time of year" he offers the two.
Ophelia looks up with wide eyes "i do i do!!" she says, raising her hand excitedly before jumping off of the wooden porch swing.
(you're all good bucky, haven't been doing too well myself, but we press on lmao, glad you're doing better even if it's been a while since then)
"He, him, got it" She gave a smile and a thumbs up, then beamed at the question in return.
"She, they for me is fine, thank you" Cherry seemed a lot more comfortable around Clovis, maybe a little too comfortable, but she couldn't help it, she was the type to latch onto any form of kindness and Clovis was doing a very good of that.
Cherry looked over at Jesse when she spoke and crossed her arms, feeling the need to protect herself from Jesse even though she thought Jesse to be a very sweet individual. The spiky nature put her off and confused her as to why Jesse felt the need to be tough. Though, the more Cherry thought about it, the more sense it made. Maybe she should start being a little tougher, it would definitely help in the long run…maybe.
"Well, what would you like me to call you by? He? They? She? I rather get it right than call you by something you're not a fan of, I also apologize if I assumed your gender earlier, was not my intention…" She muttered at the end.
"And sorry for calling you…uh….intimidating. I now realize that you might not have liked that and that I came off as insensitive, so I apologize." Cherry seemed to get her words out in a hurry, not knowing how Jesse would react and wanting to get everything out before Jesse said anything.
"I am-" She looked at Clovis. "Ready I think- if you were talking to me that is, though you probably weren't…" Cherry shrank back, feeling a little silly now. She wasn't part of the group, not yet anyways until she proved to be useful enough for them to want to keep her, so that's what she planned to do.
It was… nerve-wracking. Being around Jesse. She acted one way alone and another with people around. So it begged the question, who was Jesse really? Maybe a combination of both? But there was no sweetness there as it had been shown with the dog earlier.
Cherry eyed Jesse as she thought about all of this. Somewhere in there, she had a soft spot, and Cherry couldn't help but wonder if she'd ever get to see that again.
(i love Cherry omg im dead reading this post XDDDD)
(I have returned. Lack of motivation to write had kinda murdered me)
Jax returned to his seat on the porch steps and began to pick at the peeling white paint. The long grass blew in the soft wind, shaking the trees slightly. Little clouds traveling across the skies made the horizon look lovely during the day. He felt rather helpless and lacked any idea what to do. Jax sat around doing nothing while Cass handled everything on his own. Even though Cass was willing to assist, he eventually had to take care of himself. He grabbed a tiny blue flower and placed it behind his ear. Although it wouldn't be appropriate at the time, he felt like he needed a tiny flower crown. He didn't like how his hair was being messed up by the wind as it blew in his face. Jax became extremely anxious because he now believed he could hear zombie groans around any corner. When Cass spoke, he raised his head. Jax was actually allowed to do something by him? He didn't mind that Cass limited what he could do, but it made him feel weak. “Yes, I'm interested in going up the stream. Given the lush vegetation and adorable wildlife, it would be nice". He tucked a few more buttercups into his hair, the yellow contrasting the black. "Fields stretch for miles. As a child, I frequently visited this area. It's magnificent."
(yeah that's alright! it's been kinda slow for all of us i think)
"Oh i had no idea. That's ironic" Cassius gives a small chuckle. "we found this place only a few months ago when it was abandoned. Id say it's held up pretty nicely" he says, looking up to the beautiful house before looking back to Jax and Ophelia "We should go ahead and get ready to go then." he says as he heads up the steps and opens the front door. Ophelia runs into the house without a word, just a loud giggle of excitement, as the only thing on her mind was getting ready to leave.
Cass smiles at his daughter, now looking to Jax once again "if you want, you can help me go into the shed and get some tools. I've got some things you can borrow if you feel like hunting again. Only if you're ready though. I don't want you hurting yourself again" he says kindly.
(im sorry it's short. Im exhausted)
(Sorry it's pretty short)
Jax played with his hair to arrange the tiny flowers while grinning. “Yeah! I used to reside close by. Off in that direction." He pointed to the northeast, an area they had not explored yet. " Ironical? Yes. This building has also been vacant for a long time. He looked over the house. " The wilderness' preservation is the only thing keeping it alive." Jax traced the wooden pillars supporting the porch roof with his hand. He cut back a few of the vines." Could I have my own tools, if that's not too much trouble?" He began to enter the home after Cass. "What I know is how I function best. For hunting, I have a bow, but no arrows." Jax softly grinned as he inserted another buttercup flower into his hair. "I'm not going to hurt myself again," Jax beams. "In terms of hunting, I'm actually quite effective." He entered covertly while grabbing his satchel that he had left in the living room.
Cassius smiles, a small chuckle escaping his lips at one of his last sentences "yeah you can. I'll bring mine just in case. The stream is decently clean so Fia and i will be washing the clothes." he says, picking up a small wooden basket filled about halfway with clothes either covered in mud or dried blood.
The wooden basket was obviously hand woven by Cass himself. It seemed to be woven out of small strips of wood, the strips tightly holding everything together.
He picks up Jax's clothes from the floor and sets them in the basket, setting the whole thing by the doorway for when they leave.
"I don't doubt that you're a good hunter. Id be surprised if you weren't to be honest. But i just want you to be safe is all" Cassius explains, his voice soft but his tone more monotone as he focuses on getting ready. He steps out to the backyard, letting Jax follow if he wanted to. He opens the sheds wooden doors, and steps inside. Plucking tools from the rack on the wall and setting them carefully in the bag he planned on taking with them, taking a few extra things for Jax as well.
"we could definitely make some arrows if you'd like. I haven't before but im sure its simple enough. And if anything, i can help you?" he offers.
Ophelia runs outside with rain boots that looks to once have been bright yellow but now they were a mucky tan color. She had on shorts and a t shirt and had pulled her braids out and put it up in a terribly messy ponytail. Curls of brown hair falling into her face every time she moved her head. She carelessly wipes her hair out of her face with her palm flat against her skin which made Cass smile. He would help her put it up but she seems proud of herself for doing her own hair.
"im ready! Hurry up you snails!" she says running up to the shed.
(Sorry for not replying. I've been really busy lately, and I have company coming tomorrow through the fourth. I'll be back on Tuesday or around Wednesday!)
(thats alright nobody here minds! theres no pressure ^^)
(I have returned from falling off the face of the Earth. I’ve been working on a big story project with my boyfriend lately, and it’s been awfully time-consuming)
Jax bounced on his toes like an excited kid. He hadn’t been hunting in a while. Not ever since he received his wounds. Jax wasn’t too aware of where Cass put his tools, but he was sure Cass would return them. He could be trusted now. Right? “Alrighty! I just hope Fia doesn’t become queasy. I hate for that to happen.” He adjusted the straps to his satchel, fitting it tightly around his body. Jax opened his bag, rummaging around to check for any stray arrows. He found a few. Bringing out a folded bow, he flicked his wrist to cause it to unfold into a full bow. “I appreciate it. I promise I won’t climb any trees…” Jax seemed a bit unsure about that. “I’ll resist the urge to climb trees.” He spotted his tools hanging by the door and quickly grabbed them before following Cass into the backyard. “I can carve some wooden arrows if needed. You can help if you’d like.” He shrugged. “But it’s not that easy.” A few flowers fell out of Jax’s hair, dotting his shoulders with blue and gold petals. The blue petals matched his eyes. He grinned at Ophelia. “Give us two more seconds to gather our things, then I’ll race you up the river bank.” He winked at her.
Ophelia was getting more antsy by the second since they weren't leaving yet. She bounces on her heels, brows furrowed in frustration. But only for a second before you hear a big sigh from her. Being dramatic of course.
Cass shrugs, not bothered by her dramatics of course. "id appreciate you not climbing any trees" he says with a smile towards Jax.
"that'd be nice. Though i think you'll be the only one using them. I've got to stay beside Ophelia to make sure she's safe so i wont be doing any hunting." Cassius says with a soft chuckle, slinging the bag over his shoulder and turning to go out of the shed.
Fia rolls her eyes with a big "Well ill obviously beat you! Your leg is hurt! Mine isn't!" she says sassily, crossing her arms.
Cass's eyes widen "Fia! That's rude!" he says, trying to hold in a smile.
"what? Im right! How will he run with a hurt leg! You couldn't even!" she sassed back.
Cass sighs "im sorry Jax" he says "looks like she's beating you" he jokes, stepping out of the shed and walking across the lawn. "lets go guys."
