Aeron’s thoughts were drowned out by the clang of metal hitting metal in the massive blacksmith he was currently working in. He’d only been here a few weeks and new his time was coming to an end soon. Being one of the last dragon shifters was terribly hard and finding work was even harder. He’d offered his services for gold, something he desperately needed but barely had any of. He sighed and lifted his hammer once more.
Olivia sighed as another one of her favourite books were sold to pay off their debt. "Oh don't look so sad dear, we can get them next time!" her mother exclaimed She knew how much Olivia cherished those books.
Aeron held the sword up to the light of the fire, admiring his handy work. He’d become quite the smithy these past weeks. He whipped the soot from his brow and went to grab a drink from the fountain outside.
Olivia walked outside and went to the forest. Her father had told her many times of the dragon that worked there but it hadn't hurt her yet so she still went to her secret hiding spot.
As Aeron walked back in, he got what he was expecting. A small bag of coins and an order to leave. He sighed, and left, heading back to his small home in the forest. He summoned his wings and flew the short distance, landing smoothly in front of the cabin.
Olivia looked around and oce she was certain she was alone, she started singing a song she and her mother sang before everything went to the dogs.
Aeron took off his shirt and collapsed on the ground outside his house, leaving his wings out and sighed. Looking up at the sky. Why me? he thought.
Olivia closed her eyes and let a few tears fall out while singing the song.
Aeron sat up and watched the trees rustle in the wind. He wondered when he would find his next job. He didn’t have much gold left.
Olivia opened her eyes, and ran home. She burst through the door and ran to her father. "Father i have an idea…"
Aeron stood up, made his wings disappear and walked inside, placing his shirt on the table and bag of coins in a small drawer at the far end of the room. He waved his hand and the fire lit before making a bowl of stew.
"ABSOLUTELY NOT!" Her father roared. Olivia jumped "But father it may help us!" she exclaimed
Aeron sat and ate in silence. Soon placing the bowl in the sink and heading outside to the small river the ran by, washing his face and chest of soot and dirt.
