Maybe someone in public (like someone who was in the gang) drops it on the street, and she goes to give it back but the person is already gone?

Okay!
Just give me a moment to send it in
Alrighty, no rush.
Alyssia, unlike most people, was a morning person. She loved to wake up early and watch the sunrise and listen to the birds' chirp. The morning was also a favorite time because not most people were out in the early hours of the day. So she could go outside, take a walk without there being a crowd or feel like she was being watched or frowned upon. She could just be her. Alyssia was on her way to school (college). Yes, she walked, as her apartment was not far away. There were few people out and about, but as time etched on, more people and cars came out of their homes. She kept her head down, walking the familiar path to her school when something dropped in her line of vision. She picked up what to looked to be something very old, a family heirloom perhaps. She stood back up, ready to call out to the person who had dropped it, but they were already gone. She pocketed the item, holding on to it until she could find a way to contact its owner.
Yeon disliked early mornings. He hated getting up and going to a call. It was usually something easy- collecting a drug shipment or kicking some persons ass for whatever reason. He didn’t know what any of the reasons were. His boss just pointed, and he went after whoever needed to be gone after. God, it made him feel like a goddamn attack dog or something. He deserved a raise.
But this morning, things seemed different. He was standing in an alleyway in the earlier hours of the day, blowing out a large puff of smoke from his lips, a cigarette in between his fingers. They were transporting important information, maps with their drug transport routes and their buyers locations, to a different location. He was supposed to pick it up from some guy who was in the area and take it the rest of the way.
Eventually, an older man, maybe in his late twenties or early thirties, approached him. “You Yeong Wang?” The man asked in a low tone.
“Depends, you have something for me?” Yeon asked, a strong Hispanic accent in his voice.
The man gave a grunt and dug into his pocket. Then the other. “Oh shit..”
“What’s the matter, huh?” Yeon asked, taking another drag from his cigarette.
“The maps, the thing that had the maps on them. It must have fallen,” the man said in a panicked tone.
Yeons eyes widened at that. “¡¿Que demonios?! ¡Estúpido bastardo!” he cursed.
(Wait, so, if he's Cuban, why does he have a Korean name?)
(His grandfather was Korean, and he had married a Cuban woman when he lived there for a period of time. Because everyone in his family is fully Cuban besides that little bit of family, he does have the Korean last name, he just looks more on the Hispanic side.)
Alyssia went about her day as she normally did, however, she couldn't stop thinking about the stopwatch necklace she had picked up. She wondered who it belonged too, where they were, if they had noticed it was gone. She was unsure of how to contact the person it belonged too. Maybe she could bring it to a pawn shop and they could tell her it's origin? The family name it belonged too? It would be a start at least. She hoped that she would find the owner. Maybe she would put up signs, so whoever it belonged to could come to her instead.
She stopped at this small cafe on the way home and bought a sandwich. She bit into it. She had a lot of homework to do, there was no telling when she would get another chance to eat again. As she finished the sandwich, she pulled out the timepiece and looked it over. It was quite gorgeous. It must be worth a fortune. Not that she would ever sell it. Just that the owner would want it back.
She slipped it back in her bag as she reached her complex. She walked up the stairs and unlocked her apartment door. Her best friend was already there to greet her. Lucky him, he had already graduated a couple years ago.
"Welcome home chica."
Alyssia scowled. "You know I hate it when you call me that. And why are you here anyway? Aren't you supposed to be at work?"
"I finished my work so I got to take off early. Now go to your room and don't come out until your work is done." He said in a mock soldier voice.
She stuck her tongue out at him and flipped him off as she walked to her room. She shut the door behind her. She placed her bag on the bed and sighed. It was going to be a long night.
“I should shoot you right here and now,” Yeon snapped at the older man who had lost one of the most important goddamn pieces of information that the gang had. His bosses were going to throw one hell of a fit.
“It wasn’t my fault! I’m sure it’s out there somewhere on the street,” the man stammered quickly. “I’ll go find it!”
Yeon watched as the man hurried off in the direction he had come. He wouldn’t find it, Yeon had a feeling that someone most likely picked it up. Was it his job to go tell his bosses about this mishap? It sure as hell better not be.
(time skip?)
(Yeah, sure.)
