"I know you wouldn't." He could barely breathe. He couldn't go on without her.
"I know you wouldn't." He could barely breathe. He couldn't go on without her.
"But we'll get through this, right?" She smiled hopefully.
He sighed. "Yes. We'll make it work"
"I love you." Her voice small and soft. He was all the comfort she had left.
He matched her tone with a whisper. "I love you too." He kissed her forehead gently. He always hated when people wished on stars. It seemed so odd to him. They were giant masses far away that had no dealing with fate. He didn't think they existed for humans. We existed for them. For their beauty.
And yet, he found himself hoping- wishing- there was some way to keep her with him.
She didn't want to leave him and she never would if she had a say in it.
"What if-" He stopped himself. "No, never I d. Bad idea. Not that it's a bad idea, it's just. I don't know."
"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Just say it, love." She smiled a little.
"I-" he hesitated. It's not that ye didn't want to. He just wasn't sure if she would… His voice lowered to a whisper as he looked away from her. "What if, I mean, they. No. Yeah. I just. What if…" He couldn't stop stuttering. Idiot…
She giggled softly. He was too cute. "Try that again, only in English this time."
"I, uh, yeah. Umm, well. It's just that…" Just say it, you idiot. "They can't take you if you're married, right?" Crud. "I mean, it's stupid I know. That's why I didn't say. Not that it's stupid to marry you, I mean, I would. It's just that it's been barely a week. But then again, I mean, I really like you. Really love you. And I know that you can get married at seventeen if I'm eighteen and then they can't take you, right? I just, I'm yeah. I'm going to stop now." His chest was so tight in that moment. He felt like he couldn't breathe. Did you really just do that?!
Her face flushed red. Marriage? She wasn't even eighteen! But…she loved him. And she didn't want to leave. Maybe… "If it would work…I'd be more than willing to make it happen…"
"I mean," he continued on, not registering what she said. "Yeah, sorry, I wasn't thinking. Plus, it'd be weird since school and all. That and- wait, what?" She's okay that I said that?
She flushed darker. "I-I mean, only if you're okay with it. I-It's not that big a deal, r-really." Oh my God, the stutter's back! I thought I was over this!
"I mean, no- yes, I'm okay with it. More than okay with it. I wouldn't say it isn't a big deal, but we'll go with that for now." Now he felt completely and utterly useless. He couldn't speak. And he proposed to her (in a way, after only knowing her for so long) with a million stutters. No big arrangements or anything.
"I mean, if you wanna get technical, we've grown up together so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to make people believe it, right?"
"Yeah. You're right, you're right." He thought for a moment. "They'll let you stay then?"
"I mean, probably. If they don't then that's a completely different issue."
"Okay. Yeah, yeah. I. Okay." He took a second to let the heat fall from his cheeks a little.
If anything, her cheeks only heated up further.
"I-" He thought for a second before lowering his voice to a whisper and looking away. "You can back out any time if you want, okay?"
"I know. But for now, I don't." She smiled shyly.
"I- I don't either." He offered a small smile to match hers.
She couldn't help it, she tugged him down into a kiss. It always managed to calm her nerves and get her to relax.
Jackson was surprised at first, but he didn't back out. He kissed her back, a fire tingling in his chest. Whoa.
