"I'll set up camp, try not to die." Luna said, shuffling into the forest.
"I'll set up camp, try not to die." Luna said, shuffling into the forest.
"I'll have Fawkes."
"Yeah, a dog. Cute, but you haven't met bandits like these before."
"I don't think you really understand Fawkes' capabilities. He's more than just a dog."
"Listen, princess, your little puppy won't save you when you're being held at daggerpoint by bloodthirsty thieves with nothing to do." she hissed.
"Don't do anything stupid. You have been warned."
"He's more than just a puppy," Kat says. "Fawkes, Blaze." Fawkes obediently bursts into flames. "Brighter." Fawkes burns even brighter. "Diminish," She says finally, and Fawkes goes back to his normal state.
"Good, the puppy glows. A homing beacon. Lovely. I'm pretty sure she can't even use a sword. That's why I gave her the dagger, so she doesn't off her limbs. But even a dagger has it's risks. I'm reconsidering a life of crime at this point." Luna thought, not knowing she actually said all of this out loud in front of the princess.
"I'll have you know that the Head Guard taught me how to use a sword at age 10 in case this happened."
"Hmm. Fight me then." Luna said, drawing her sword.
"I don't have a sword myself."
Luna tossed the girl a stick. "Go ahead, take your best shot." she said, taking of her armor and tools and grabbing a stick herself.
"You might beat me in combat, but I'll be you in magic."
"Sure, honey. You could definitely beat an experienced ex-pirate and arch-mage in mortal combat."
"I can if I'm a phoenix."
"Right, a glowing pigeon. You're honestly just spewing out more ways to get yourself killed."
"That, or more ways to protect myself."
"Yes, obviously a human homing beacon is what we need." she said. Suddenly, Luna charged at the princess. "Fight! Like your life depends on it!" she said, swinging her stick.
Kat ducks, but the stick still manages to hit her elbow. She grits her teeth to hide the scream, more of shock that Luna is so strong rather than of pain.
Luna jabbed at Kat's torso. "Kill." she said. "Try again." Luna swung her stick.
Kat catches it this time, and suddenly the stick is a pile of ashes.
"Hmm. No magic from you, try again." Luna said, grabbing a new stick and lunging at the girl, jabbing at her leg this time. "Now you can't use that limb, since I hit it. Pretend this is a real sword, and fight!" she said, jabbing the princess's stomach. "That will slowly kill you, and make you much slower. But if given proper medical treatment as soon as you can get it, you might survive."
Kat pretends to sear the wound closed with her hand. "There. Medical treatment."
"Good, but internal bleeding will kill you soon after." she jabbed near the girl's throat, a centimeter from touching it. "If I hit your neck, you would be dead. Pay attention."
"Why are we doing this again?"
