“Perfect! Rule number 1 of sleepovers. No being comfortable, like ever.” Gwen laughed, nudging Marla’s leg playfully with her foot.
“Perfect! Rule number 1 of sleepovers. No being comfortable, like ever.” Gwen laughed, nudging Marla’s leg playfully with her foot.
Marla let out a laugh that was embarrassingly close to a giggle, nudging Gwen back. “What’s Rule Two?”
“Rule 2? No sleeping, obviously.” Gwen laughed. “And rule 3 is that we have to play truth or dare, rule 4 being the requirement that at least one of us has to get a makeover.”
(AHH TRUTH OR DARE IS GOING TO BE SO FUN WITH THESE HOPELESS GAYS)
“I’m guessing that I’ll be the subject of number four?” Marla bumped her shoulder against Gwen’s. “Oh— And is it okay with you to order pizza for dinner?”
(I know! That’s why I had to put it in there!)
“Pizza is good with me! And I brought my makeup kit so yes, but feel free to give me a makeover as well.” Gwen smiled fondly at Marla, imagining what it would be like to have her hand on the other girl’s cheek when they got to rule 4.
(Yasss
How’re you today?)
(Omg they’ll be touching eachother’s faces during the makeover)
The full implications of Gwen giving her a makeover hit Marla smack in the face. Her heart rate began to rapidly accelerate as she imagined Gwen’s hand cupping her cheek, spreading lipstick over her lips…. “Sounds— sounds great.”
(Not bad! I have an essay due tomorrow so I’m mostly working on that. How’re you doing?)
“What do you want to do first? I can think of about a million other dumb games we could play at a sleepover, so it’s up to you.” Gwen blushed, unable to take her eyes off Marla.
(Oh good luck, what’s the essay on?
I’m great :)
Marla suddenly came to the realization that her thigh was pressed up against Gwen’s. And her face was so close…. She tore her eyes away, nudging her band up against the other girl’s. “Um— well, we could look at the exhibits first? If you want, I mean. And there’s a documentary playing in about an hour?”
(I have to use five photos from middle school to now and write a reflection on some type of personal change. It’s not too bad, but seeing middle school pictures of myself is not a confidence booster, that’s for sure! And I’m glad you’re doing well today!)
Gwen felt her cheeks flush red and hoped the sunset would disguise it. “That sounds amazing. Lead the way, Princess.”
(Ah I see
Good luck with the essay, anyhow
Thanks! You too)
Princess. Marla felt a little hiccup in her chest, and forced her limbs to move. “Right. Um. There’s a new exhibit on Floor Two, I think, let’s go.” She lead the way back through the main room and into the elevator, barely refraining from reaching for Gwen’s hand again.
Gwen pulled the oldest trick in the book, feeling a little shameless at this point. “My hands are freezing tonight. Wanna feel?” She reached out at grabbed Marla’s hand, hoping her fingers were just cold enough for this excuse to be passable.
(G W E N)
Marla let out a tiny noise, immediately clamping her jaw shut and going beet red. Not wanting to miss the opportunity that had been handed to her (literally) she quickly moved to intertwine their fingers, moving their hands up between them. “I can warm them up,” she told Gwen quietly, biting her lip hard.
(Gwen is pretending she’s not desperate lmao)
“Knew I could count on you.” Gwen couldn’t tell if Malra was blushing in the poor light of the elevator, but she certainly wasn’t protesting against being a in a confined space with the girl again. “Your hands are so much warmer than mine! What’s up with that?”
(Lmao so is Marla)
Marla brushed her thumbs up the sides of Gwen’s, making sure that their hands were clasped firmly together. “I— I don’t know. They’re usually freezing.”
“I guess tonight is an exception.” Gwen lightly squeezed Marla’s hand as the elevator doors opened. “I’m still completely shook by this place. It really is something else.” She pulled Marla out of the elevator behind her, taking in her new surroundings.
“Y-Yeah.” Marla cleared her throat awkwardly, keeping tight hold of Gwen’s hand. “Come, it’s this way.”
Gwen allowed Marla to lead her enjoying holding her hand. “What’s the exhibit on?” She asked curiously, her eyes gleaming with excitement.
Marla led her past rooms labeled ‘Dwarf Planets’ and ‘Nebulas’, through winding hallways and crowds of gathering people. “It’s an interactive model of the galaxy. This whole place actually costs hundreds for the general public, but not for the university students, since we technically funded it. Which is great.”
“That’s awesome!” Gwen looked at each of the rooms they passed by, trying to sneak glances inside them. “Do you ever have class in here?”
“The teacher will book us a room on the top floor if we’re doing a unit on star-Seeing, but otherwise, no.” They entered a large room with black walls and a darkly carpeted floor. There were no glass cases or displays— in fact, the only solid things in the room were the people. Surrounding them was floating, luminescent dust; a hologram of sorts in the shape of the Milky Way.
“Whoa…” Gwen whispered, practically breathless from awe. She had never been much of a stargazer, but this was amazing. She reached forward with her hand, which went straight through a twinkling star, the reflection of it sparkling in her eyes. She tightened her grip on Marla’s hand slightly.
Macha bit back a huge grin, reaching out and hovering her hand over a cluster of stars. After a moment, a holographic label popped up, along with information on the star system she had just touched.
“Holy—“ Gwen couldn’t even begin to form words. “I… this is beautiful. This is incredible.”
(and this is totally unrealistic for a college but shhhh it's fine)
She couldn't stop grinning. "You like it that much?" Marla asked, squeezing Gwen's hand.
(Lol shhh it’s okay let’s pretend colleges have this much funding)
“How could I not?” Gwen actually pulled Marla into a hug. “I can’t thank you enough for taking me here.” She couldn’t help but notice how Marla’s hair looked under the light of the holograms around them.
