"Moxiey," the young mermaid replied shyly, much unlike her usual, outgoing self.
"Moxiey," the young mermaid replied shyly, much unlike her usual, outgoing self.
"I'm pleased to meet you, Moxiey," Liam said politely, "I didn't know mermaid's existed." He couldn't take his eyes off her magnificent tail.
"We do," she said, noticing his gaze on her tail. She shifted a little to bring it into a better view.
“Wow… just… wow.” Was all Liam could manage to say. A really mermaid. And a pretty cute one at that… “What does it feel like?” Liam took a moment to scold thimself for the stupid question.
"What do you mean?" she asked, her nose wrinkling in confusion.
“Your tail. What does it feel like.” Liam asked again, drawing his attention from Moxiey’s tail to her face.
"It… It feels normal for me. Um, I just…" She flicked her tail and a small spray of water burst from where her fins had broken the surface.
Liam smiled, “Wow… that’s… that’s incredible.” He said, running a hand through his hair.
"What's walking like?" she asked eagerly, her shyness suddenly melting away. This was more her natural self - easygoing, fun, curious, extroverted…
Liam smiled, “Easy, I guess it feels the same as when you swim. Normal.” He lazily swung his legs back and forth in the water.
She watched in amazement. "Fascinating…" she murmured.
“Are there others? Like you?” Liam asked cautiously. He didn’t want to scare Moxiey off.
"Oh yes. A whole city!"
“Really? My gosh and barely anyone knows…” Liam rubbed his neck.
Moxiey bit her lip. "I shouldn't have told you that…"
“I won’t tell, I swear it.” Liam said, putting a hand over his heart.
Moxiey smiled softly. "What's that for?" she asked, pointing as his surf board.
"It's for riding the waves. There isn't any good waves to surf today but I thought I'd come out anyway." Liam replied, shrugging a shoulder.
"Riding waves?" Moxiey asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.
"You know, when the surf board can balance on the water and you can do tricks and stuff…" Liam said, rubbing his neck.
"We don't ride the waves like that," Moxiey remarked.
"How do you do it then?" Liam asked leaning forward slightly.
"We let the current pull us and the waves carry us to the shores," Moxiey explained, sighing happily. It was one of her favorite things to do.
"I've heard of some people doing that, we call it body boarding but most people use a board like this or smaller nowadays." Liam said, smiling.
"Bodyboarding…" Moxiey murmured, testing out the word.
