"Most of them for caught in fishing nets or lobster traps." Tara finished. Then she looked down at her watch. "Uh oh. Oohhh boy, I'm going to be sooooo late!" Tara exclaimed as she swam to the edge of the pool.
"Most of them for caught in fishing nets or lobster traps." Tara finished. Then she looked down at her watch. "Uh oh. Oohhh boy, I'm going to be sooooo late!" Tara exclaimed as she swam to the edge of the pool.
Darren followed her, "Late for what?"
"I have to pick my little sister up from school like…..fifteen minutes ago!" Tara replied as she got out.
Darren got out after her, "Oh, your sister," he rubbed his hands through his wet hair, "Do you need anything?"
"Uh….a ride?" I kinda let another staff member borrow my car to go see her grandpa in the hospital. "
"Sweet, I can do that," Darren laughed, "After you," he gestured.
Tara grabbed her leather jacket and threw it on quickly, slipping into her tennis shoes. "Man I can't believe I did it again…" She muttered under her breath with an amused smile as she ran out the door. "Thanks Darren. I owe you one." She said to Darren.
"Aww, no. Don't mention it," He laughed as he slid his own shoes on and walked out to the car.
Tara laughed with him. "Yeah, umm…..my mom has cancer and is currently in the hospital, so I've kinda had to take full responsibility of my sister." She said as she followed Darren to his car.
"I'm sorry to hear that, do you mind if I ask what kind of cancer?"
"Brian cancer." Tara said as she pushed a lock of wet hair behind her ear.
Darren got in the car, "My mom had brain cancer too, Oligodendroglioma." He said as he started the car.
Tara nodded as she got in the other side. "It's hard to watch her like this…..helpless to help her. And…." Tara sighed. "Sara can't lose mom. She already grew up with one parent. I don't want her to go through the same thing I did." Tara said, shaking her head.
Darren chose not to ask about the other parent. "My advice… Make sure you're there for both of them but you can't forget about yourself… You don't have to be strong all the time,"
Tara gave a light smile. "Good advice. I should probably listen. If my mom finds out how much sleep I've lost the past few months she'd probably freak out."
“I know what that’s like,”
Tara nodded. "So, did you always live around here or did you move?" She asked, changing the subject.
"I'm actually from San Francisco," Darren recognized her subject change and went with it.
"Cool! I'm from Australia, but we moved here when I was tweleve. I never lost the accent though." She said.
"That's cool," He laughed, "Why did you guys move?"
(Where does this take place?)
(Ahhmm…….A big town/city called Ocean Way near the Californian sea/ocean line I believe? Sorry my brain is a bit clouded rn and I don't want to look for the notebook I wrote the location in so forgive me if it's a little weird)
Tara fidgeted awkwardly in her seat. "I….don't really want to talk about it." She whispered.
(No that makes sense to me. Just curious)
"That's fine," Darren reassured, "I didn't really move that far to be here but my parents act like I moved across the country,"
(Sorry sorry @kat_i_am insisted that I go pester my mom for something to eat. I'm back now)
Tara nodded. "I mean…..for them it might seem far." She replied.
(AAnnnndddd now my mom wants me to help with supper. Brb)
(Heeelllllooooooooooooooo)
Tara looked out the window. "Take a right here."
