He laughed, waving her off. "No no, I meant about you. What's your favorite color, favorite food. Where do you wish to visit the most. The interesting things that only you can tell me."
He laughed, waving her off. "No no, I meant about you. What's your favorite color, favorite food. Where do you wish to visit the most. The interesting things that only you can tell me."
“Oh.” she nodded with a soft laugh. “Well, let's see… Actually, I don't really have a favorite color. I like too many of them to choose. Favorite food would have to be strawberries. And I've always wanted to see the ocean.”
"Ah well, I'm sure you'll find one. Mine has always been orange. The most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen on my travels have always been mainly orange." He shrugged. "But please, go on. I'm sure there's more to learn about you."
Charlotte nodded. “I agree that orange makes a very pretty sunset but I have to say that my favorite sunsets are the ones with a hint of red to them. Though I also love that soft lavender that follows.” she admitted. “What else would you like to know about me?”
"What's your family like, are you seeing anyone, do you have a favorite customer." He fired off, smiling to himself.
She gave a thoughtful hum. “Well, as I said, I'm an only child and I've lived here my whole life. Most of my family has, actually. Though I did have a great uncle, or something, who was a messenger so he got to travel all the time.” Charlotte said with a bit more enthusiasm before sighing. “Most of my closer family consider that to be a dangerous occupation. Especially for us.”
"Oh? How so? You don't seem like the kind of people that have a lot of skeletons in your closet. Unless there's something you're not telling me." He raised an eyebrow with an almost knowing grin.
Charlotte chuckled softly and shook her head. “Skeletons, no. Wings, yes.” she admitted softly as she fiddled with her bracelet again. “It's not something I tell customers because it seems to make things awkward. Being waited on by someone who can fit in their palm. So I guess that makes you my favorite customer so far.”
Rodney contemplated for a minute before it clicked. "You're a fairy? I never would've guessed. All the fairies I've ever met were, well, not exactly friendly."
“Really? Well, I can understand them being cautious but that's pretty natural for most of us.” she mused. “But, yes. I am a fairy. I bought this charm so that things would be easier when I got the job here.” she explained, showing him the simple-looking piece of jewelry.
"Oh, how pretty. I saw you messing with it earlier but just figured it was a habit or something that had a meaning behind it. I was going to ask but you beat me to it." He chuckled, running his thumb over the bracelet lightly.
She shrugged slightly. “I guess so. I do fiddle with it when I'm nervous… But I'm not embarrassed about being a fairy. It's just easier to manage a job like this when you're… this height.”
"Oh, absolutely. So what kind of fairy are you? I know there are different kinds and some are really touchy about being misnamed so I'd rather not be turned into a rock or something."
Charlotte smiled at how understanding he was being. “Well, actually I’m bit of a mix. My mom specializes in plants and my dad… believe it or not, is a fire fairy.” she answered. “But I also know some healing magic too.”
"Oh, a feisty one. I always manage to attract the most interesting of people. Glad to know my streak continues." He hummed with a smile.
“I wonder if that's a good thing if you’ve been in trouble because of that streak.” she teased. “But in this case, I’m glad too.”
Rodney waved her off with a smile. "Nonsense, that has nothing to do with it. It's just that the most interesting people hide in the most troublesome of places."
“If you say so…” she smirked. “Though I don't know if I would call this place troublesome.”
"Oh I'd certainly hope not. I think this town has had quite enough of me getting myself into trouble, whether it be accidentally or on purpose."
“You certainly are an interesting one. What trouble did you already get into around here?” she asked, intrigued.
"Met a lovely girl at a tavern a few days ago, she thought I was making advances towards her and was reciprocating when I was just being my usual dramatic self and got really offended when I suddenly pushed her off me when she tried to kiss me. Got chased out by the guards and her father who's the owner of said tavern."
Charlotte shook her head and sighed. “I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I just hope that it wasn't someone I know.” she said, even though the town was small enough that it was a possibility.
"I don't know, maybe. This place is pretty small. I'm more surprised they haven't found me here yet considering the size of the town. But I'm going to complain, not in the slightest."
“Well, that's true. And actually, I think we're about to get pretty busy.” she admitted, starting to stand. “The dinner crowd usually starts coming in soon. But if I see anyone looking for you, I’ll try and distract them for you. There’s a back door out that way, if you need it.” Charlotte told him with a brief gesture towards the door.
"Thank you, dear Charlotte." He smiled warmly. "Now, I think I should start in on my dinner before it gets cold so I can finish before it gets super busy."
