Dev sat curled up on her couch, watching a movie. One dog was on her lap, and another was on her feet, keeping them warm. She liked walking around barefoot, but that meant that her feet were always cold. Besides the dogs, she had a throw blanket draped over her bare legs. She tossed a tortilla chip to each dog and dipped a chip into salsa for herself. She didn't care much for popcorn.
Vaughn stopped at the voice. He was pleased to know that the darknes hid his facial featured, his face was plastered all over the news. He straightened his tie, grey eyes narrowing. “Doesn’t matter much,” he said, voice having a deep tone.
"You want a ride somewhere? You look kinda…" he trailed off, gesturing a little to Vaughn's appearance. "Covered in…blood? Did you get jumped?"
A commercial break interrupted her movie, and Dev sighed dramatically. Then, the commercial had its own interruption: an emergency news broadcast, depicting a man's face. He was labeled a criminal, and Dev was drawn into the details, no longer complaining about the interruption of her movie.
// did I say something wrong orrr
(no I think everyone just kinda collectively died for a bit lol)
// that's funny, I was just having a conversation about death in general chat
"You want a ride somewhere? You look kinda…" he trailed off, gesturing a little to Vaughn's appearance. "Covered in…blood? Did you get jumped?"
“Just tripped, and no I don’t want a ride,” Vaughn said. He didn’t trust anyone, much less random strangers.
Kaz put his hands up. "Okay, okay, sorry. You just look a little beat up. You sure you don't want some bandages or something? My place is just around the block," he offered
“I don’t need help,” Vaughn muttered. He was loosing time, the police would be scanning the area already.
Dev's movie came on again, and she wondered if she should just pull an all-nighter at this point because after the news about the killer, she wasn't too sure if she could sleep. The irony made her chuckle nervously, considering she'd been watching horror movies. But as soon as a real life murder was made known, it gave her chills. She absentmindedly shoved chips in her mouth as her mind wandered.
Kaz frowned. "That's not what the blood on you says. Come on, you can at least let me help patch you up."
“I am not going with you,” Vaughn said, a slight growl in his tone. He wasn’t going anywhere with a stranger. He wasn’t the type to hurt nonabusers, but if this man tired anything, he supposed he could make an exception.
Kaz's frown deepened. "Look, I'm not stupid. You're hurt, obviously, and you look like you're running from something. So you can let me help you, or I can turn on my heel and let whatever's after you follow the trail of blood you've been leaving since whenever."
“Nothing is after me, I made sure of it,” Vaughn said, a dark tone in his voice. Of course he killed the man, bashed the bastards head open. If he could get back to his gas station, an abandoned one where he set up camp outside of the town, he would be safe.
"Oh really?" Kaz said. "Because according to the podcast I'm listening to, you fit the description of a particular serial killer rather well," he said, pointing to his headphone
Kaz frowned. "That's not what the blood on you says. Come on, you can at least let me help patch you up."
// I think I'm more creeped out by Kaz offering a ride than of Vaughn and he's literally murdering people XD
(well Kaz is really stubborn and if he sees someone who looks like they need help he just kinda. sits there and insists lol)
Through the open window, Dev began to hear talking outside her apartment. Warily, she peered out of it to see two dark figures in the middle of a conversation, and one of them had this deep, aggressive voice that gave Dev chills. She wasn't one to eavesdrop, but she couldn't help but listen carefully, crouched beneath her windowsill, like when you see something horrible or gross but you can't turn away.
// right but like I'm scared lol
(ack I didn't mean to make Kaz seem scary)
// no no, he seems cool. I'm just afraid of the man offering rides to strangers in the middle of the night as a concept. I can totally tell he's a good guy!
Lilith brushed past them on her way to a bar, before pausing. “Ooh, did I hear serial killer?” Her eyes glimmered.
Kaz frowned at her. "No, you didn't. Mind your own business, thanks."
