"Ah- Not heard of it myself but if you want to check that compartment in front of you then my daughter might've got a copy?"
"Er, o-okay." Is he not being mean just because I remind him of his daughter? How would she feel about him kidnapping other kids for money? Robin opened the glove compartment and began flipping through cd's.
"You know, it's weird saying this, but I know I'm gonna get arrested for this. I mean, I fully know it." David couldn't help but think out loud, he knew Anashi wouldn't entertain the idea.
"Well, you did send the police a video of me in your house. They'll easily find it and you inside it. They would automatically assume you're the kidnappers and send you off to jail with no money." Robin shrugged. "The police have their ways."
"Well to be honest, it's not our house. It's an old soldier buddy of mine's, he died a few weeks ago from a heart attack. He's got no family so it went to the government, so I don't think they'll connect me to it quickly, but it has nothing to do with Anashi or Cecilia, and you only know their names but they're good at vanishing. I'm talking too much, aren't I?" David nervously laughed. He sort of felt like he was just driving one of his kids to school… but he wasn't, and he probably wouldn't again for a long time.
Robin sighed. "No…" He was always self conscious about talking too much himself, always feeling like no one cared what he thought. It was a huge world he lived in, and there's no way he could really make a difference, so what was the point in speaking?
David suddenly hit the wheel, not really meaning to. He looked to Robin, "Sorry…" He parked up into the station, jumping out of the car and helping Robin down.
The gas station was a bit run down, but the lights were on. At the very least, it was open. Robin glanced around to make sure the coast was clear before entering the station. It was nearly deserted, save the cashier who was half asleep.
The cashier was an old lady, mid-60s. (Funny thing, I do part-time work at a food store.) Her name tag read 'Christine'. "Hello love, sorry, could I just have a pack of painkillers, ibuprofen if you have it, and… Teddy, you want anything?" David asked, looking down to Teddy as they approached the counter.
"Er, no thanks. I'm good." His hair was mostly dry now, and very fluffy. It always did that when it dried.
"Aww Teddy is a lovely name." Christine smiled, waking up a bit. David smiled back and picked up two galaxy bars, "Just them and we'll be good to go haha."
The woman scanned the bars, noticing 'Teddy's' towel, "Somebody a bit cold?" She asked, still smiling.
"Um, yes ma'am. We were fishing, and I fell in. It's alright though." Robin smiled weakly, trying his best to play the part he was given.
"Fishing! Oh my husband loves to fish. Did you catch any?" The woman continued, stuck trying to scan the pain killers.
David tried to stay calm but the woman was asking a lot of questions and he was worried about Robin, "Nah, it was our first time so we didn't do well." He quickly answered.
"Oh really? Well, fishing is a great way for people to bond. Whereabouts did you go? We haven't any lakes near here…" The woman said, obviously deep in thought, now typing the barcode to the tablets into the till.
"We went to a pond nearby. Not quite large enough to be considered a lake, but other people were catching fish, so we assumed that there were at least some there." He glanced up at David. I hope that story's good enough…
David looked down to Robin, they seemed to be wearing the same look. "Well, next time you come in I'll have my map on me. I know some very good lakes, and then you can show me that pond of yours, cause I'm not familiar haha." Finally, the tablets scanned.
(Why not, lets go a bit wild at 1 am)
Suddenly a man wearing a biker helmer burst into the shop, gun in hand aimed at the woman, "You two! On the floor over there! And you! All the money into a bag!" The man yelled, throwing a bag at the woman who was now crying. 'for fucks sake' David thought. He grabbed Robin and pushed him to the floor, holding his body over him in case this guy was a bad shot.
Robin started panicking and hyperventilating. First I get kidnapped, now this? Today has not been a good day…
Cecelia called David, wondering when he'd get back. "Hello? David?" she asked into the phone. "Um… the Oswin girl wants to speak with you, are you there?"
Robins gonna hate me for this… "She's got a gun inside the till!" David suddenly yelled. The man instantly shot her, pausing for a moment while her body collapsed to the ground. David covered Robin's eyes so he couldn't see anything. "Just get the money and run before the police come!" The man turned to David, just facing him for a moment, "Hurry up! Do you want to be arrested?"
The man sprung to action, grabbing the money and running from the store. David jumped up, wrapping the towel around Robin's face and guiding him out of the shop, grabbing the painkillers on the way. "Sorry Robin, she might have clicked about the pond and done something, and that guy… He'll get what's coming to him." They reached the car and David took off the towel.
(Sorry, you can continue if you want, but I'm falling to sleep :P )
Robin began to cry, shaking and confused from shock. What did I just see?! Did… did he just sacrifice the old woman and let the guy go?! Oh my god! He covered his eyes and drew his knees up to his chest.
(Shit one sec I'll reply to Oswin first yeah?)
David answered the phone call, listening to Cecilia's words, "What? No why would I-? Sure put her on." He said, watching Robin.
David scooped up Robin, putting him into the car and walking around to the driver's side and jumping in, "Hello?"
"Okay, um…. wait…… oh? Why not……… oh. Okay, so she pretty much issued a warning that she's a detective for the police and so if you want to not be in jail for the rest of your days you will release her and everyone else. So….. wait……. and also that she knows how to assassinate people if things get desperate. Or something. When are you getting back?" she asked warily.
(What?)
