(Ouch oof it’s a cliche morning routine starter 😔)

Juno was curled up on their bed, with one of their wings draped over their body. They had woken up a few minutes earlier, but they didn’t feel like getting up yet. The sun peeking through the blinds on their window woke them up, as usual. Now they just laid there, their eyes squeezed shut against the light.

A minute or two later, and Juno already had a headache. They grumbled, then sat up and turned away from the window, stretching out their arms and wings. They turned a glance to the small table by their bed. There was just a glass of water that they forgot to put away, their notebook, opened with a few lyrics scrawled on the page, and their sunglasses. They stood up and walked to their dresser, grabbing their comb off of it.

After combing their hair until their arm ached, they quickly tied it back with a scrunchie, then grabbed their glasses off the table and left their room, quietly closing the door behind them. They didn’t bother to put on their glasses yet, since no lights had been turned on, and they still wanted to see. They just walked straight to the kitchen, in a t-shirt and sweatpants, looking kind of like a wreck.

Mazie had been up for hours. They were a morning bird weather they liked it or not. This particular morning it didn't bother them much. They hadn't stayed up too late reading.

The sun was still below the horizon when they awoke. After setting up their Bluetooth speakers, and making sure they weren't too loud as to not wake the others, ze hopped in the shower. Twice kits tail hit the shower door with a loud bang. They swear it has a mind of its own sometimes.

Once they were out they grabbed zir favorite black tee. It had a really cool Elvira graphic I'm the middle. Pairing it with a plain black skater skirt and spiderweb patterned fishnets.

By the time Juno came down, Mazie was sitting down on the floor with a bowl of cherrios. Tail swaying contently.

"Hey june" They gave a half wave before returning to their cereal.

The oldest of the trio, Carmen tended to keep to herself out of habit. With her silence, it was easy to mistake her behaviour for annoyance or dislike of the other kids. This couldn't be further from the truth, as she considered both Juno and Mazie to be her family away from home. Sometimes, she felt like she didn't belong… as if she lived in a world different from the others. At times, she struggled to communicate properly. Even so, she never failed to join them for meals. Group meals were unskippable to Carmen. During meals, her silence felt more comfortable.

It would be another hour before she finally emerged from her room, looking equally as messy as Juno did, still rubbing the exhaustion out of her eyes. Carmen managed a half smile and small wave to the two, stumbling to the floor next to them, already wanting to go back to sleep and a light groan escaping her. She would get up to eat… eventually… just not quite yet…

Juno gave Mazie a soft smile as they walked in, waving back. They headed over to the counter to make their own bowl of cereal, their wings fluttering slightly. They let out a small noise of annoyance. Their feathers needed preening. They sighed, then grabbed a bowl from one of the cabinets, deciding they would tackle that later.

They hummed a small tune as they made their cereal, reciting the lyrics in their head. They found themselves doing this a lot, usually without thinking about it. They fell silent again when’s they heard the footsteps of the oldest housemate, Carmen. Juno looked over their shoulder at Carmen, flinching a bit when she fell to the floor. They blinked and stared at her silently for a moment.

“Uh. . . are you okay?” They asked in a near-whisper.

"Yeah Carmen, are you alright??" Mazie asked wrapping their tail around their leg.

They continued to much on their bowl of cherrios. Being autistic, they had a hard time getting themself to eat but cherrios were always a good safe choice.

Zir tail came unwound as they stood up and walked to Juno. Gently they poked them in the back. It was one of kits favorite things to do. Sneak up on people. It wasn't hard because they were such a light walker.

Carmen giggled quietly, letting out a yawn almost immediately as they did so. Fingers a little messy, she signed, "Fine," while nodding. She'd been working on her ASL lately, hoping that maybe it'd make it a little easier to talk. Though, of course, paper and pencil was still easiest for her. From her pouch at her thigh, she pulled her paper out and wrote, "Yes, just stayed up too late reading.. the sun woke me up and annoyed my eyes though. Also I'm hungry. I'll get up to get something soon, don't worry!!"

When she was done writing, she pushed the pad towards the two and leaned back on one arm, tilting her head and smiling softly. Truly a home away from home… Carmen hoped one day she might be able to bring them with her back home and introduce them to her parents. She was sure they would be a delight to be around and welcomed almost immediately. Though it'd been years since she'd been able to see them, she still missed them occasionally, and found this hard to deal with. Maybe one day, she'd be able to move back home for good.

Juno tilted their head at Carmen, a concerned look on their face. They let out a small squeak as Mazie poked them suddenly, their wings fluffing up. They turned to face Mazie, and proceeded to poke them in the shoulder. “friend,” they mumbled. They had gotten used to Mazie sneaking up on them, but it still spooked them a little sometimes.

Juno turned back to Carmen, looking down at the pad. They smiled and nodded in understanding, then turned back to their cereal. After they finished making it, they just picked up the bowl, grabbed a spoon, and hopped up onto the counter, sitting on it cross-legged. Mostly so they could keep an eye on Mazie.

"Oh ok!" Mazie chirped before whispering to themself. They felt so energized they needed to do something right now or they'd explode. So they hopped up onto the counter with Juno and swung kits legs wildly.

They could read, or paint, ooh or rollerblade. The leathery tail(when in doubt tail choreography) swung around in a wag-like motion. A quiet chous of "Yayy"s repeated over and over again.

Carmen couldn't help but giggle quietly. Sometimes, Mazie reminded her of a dog. Easily excitable, needs an outlet once excited, and loyal. Finally pulling herself off the floor as well, she grabbed herself a bowl of oatmeal—in this, she differed from her housemates, preferring something more…. nutritious—and added some frozen fruits from the fridge before adding some hot water.

It wasn't long before the oatmeal was done, but the warmth of the bowl would have made it hard to sit down and hold the bowl while eating, so she opted for a seat at the table instead, smiling gently at the other two. After a beat of hesitation, Carmen returned for her notepad and pencil, and scribbled something quickly before handing it over to Juno, wanting to eat.

If we keep Mazie in the house too long, I'm afraid they'll literally bounce off the walls. We should go somewhere after breakfast

(Oopsies the words did not word, I’m sorry besties)
(Also did she mean to hand that to Juno or the hyperactive goofball? I would assume Mazie since they’re the one getting kinda restless, but I might be wrong?)

Juno lightly fluttered their wings, which was their much more chill way of seeking stimulation. They scooted away from Mazie a tiny bit so that their wings wouldn’t bump into them, sitting with their legs criss-crossed on the counter now. They still felt a bit tired, and their expression made that quite obvious.

They went through a list of the things they needed to do today, which wasn’t much. They had a painting to work on, a simple landscape of the night sky, and they had to look at the lyrics they’d scribbled down the night before. And maybe practice their guitar a bit. They could never get too much practice.

Juno was quickly pulled out of their thoughts when Carmen handed them her notepad. They tilted their head slightly, laughing quietly as they read her message. Instead of saying something, they simply nodded in Carmen’s direction, showing that they agreed.
