Nyir placed her bags near the bags Azalea had put down. The room wasn't anything fancy, but it would suffice for the night. She'd stayed in worse places before. She unrolled her blanket by the bed and sat on the floor.

(Would you want any sort of mages? Is there magic in this world?)
(I've already stated in the description, but I'll say it again. No, there isn't any magic in this world.)
(Apologies, I missed that)
Vallia was in her room in the hotel, bored and frustrated. She was unsure what to do. She had been traveling with a hunter, but she had died from an infection, so Vallia was stuck here 'til she found something worth her time.

Lucian pushed up from his spot on the floor of the tent, murmuring something about getting something from a different storage tent. He left the medic tent, walking across and to the storage area where various supplies were being kept. He picked up a bag hidden in the back, taking it outside and towards a more secluded area of their camp. He opened it up, and suddenly, a cat, seeming to be a Russian Blue, popped its head out. He smiled and picked the cat up, taking it out of the bag. Before they had to leave the castle, he had taken it upon himself to keep one of the stray cats that he had found wandering around on the streets. He doubted that he was allowed to have animals, which is why he kept the cat hidden. He had named it Valerie, a French name that means ‘strong, health’. He stroked the younger cat, it purring and bumping its head against his thigh.

Azalea sat down quietly, fumbling with her bracelet as she started to think.
If the myths turned out to be just a fairy tale, then Azalea had no option but to seek help from their neighboring kingdom, the Rirus Empire. The prince would not turn his back on her. But Azalea hoped she would not have to resort to seeking help from that empire.
Azalea found herself laying on the bed, eyes tired and heavy. Soon, she fell into a deep slumber, the silent shrieks of her citizens now blasting full in her ears.
(I need help with the empire names 🤔)

Azalea found herself laying on the bed, eyes tired and heavy. Soon, she fell into a deep slumber, the silent shrieks of her citizens now blasting full in her ears.
Nyir watched Azalea sleep in silence for a long moment. She knew what type of dreams the girl must be having. With the memory of the burning castle and the brutal attack so fresh in their minds, it was hard to think of anything else.
It didn't matter, Nyir decided. None of it did. If she couldn't protect the princess –if she failed the princess the same way she failed her fiancé– then she'd have failed as a person. So for the one hundredth time, she stifled her grief and her guilt with commitment and anger. She'd do anything for the princess.
No matter what.
Azalea woke up with a start, eyes wide in panic, slapping her hand over her mouth to keep in her scream of terror. She hugged herself close and took a deep, shuddering breath, trying hard not to disturb Nyir.
It was just a dream, Azalea told herself. A very realistic dream…
Azalea looked around for Nyir, looking terribly guilty as she saw her bodyguard propped on the floor. For the umpteenth time, Azalea felt grateful for having Nyir by her side. She would have broken completely if Nyir hadn't survived the attack. But this time, Azalea didn't want Nyir to stay by her side only because she had to, because it was her job. If they found the first warrior… then Azalea would grant Nyir freedom. The woman deserved it after a lifetime of working for the empire.
Nyir hadn't meant to fall asleep, but even though her mind was active, her body felt the effects of the strain she'd been putting on herself. And so she drifted into a restless slumber, images of the attack flashing through her subconscious. The blood on his beautiful face as he told her to go, to leave him, to protect the princess and save the kingdom. Nyir's duty had always come first in their relationship, and him dying didn't change anything.
She woke with a start with tears on her cheeks and her hands clenched so tightly it drew blood from her hands. She noticed Azalea was awake and quickly tried to mask her own distress, wiping the tears from her face hastily.
"Nyir?" Azalea whispered, pulling herself off of the bed and walking over to the woman. Hesitant at first, Azalea gained confidence and hugged Nyir tightly, even as she knew the older woman disliked such things. "I'm sorry… if it wasn't for me, you would have saved him…"
Nyir stiffened at first in the girl's embrace, but then allowed herself to relax. She didn't return the hug, but she didn't fight against it, either. "I'll be alright, Princess," she murmured, her voice raspy. "My duty to the kingdom always comes first." His last words. "It's what he wanted."
"I didn't want it to come at a price," Azalea said quietly. "Our kingdom is no more. You can… you can leave, if you want. Start a new life. I.. I know it's selfish of me to do this right after you sacrificed everything to save me, but I don't want you sacrificing more than you already have. Once we find the first warrior, you can be free…"
"Yes, that is selfish," Nyir said, pulling back and glaring at her with sparking eyes. "I gave up everything for my kingdom. For you. So, no, I'm sure as hell not going to leave you. I will see this through until the kingdom is restored." Her shoulders drooped and the spark left her eye. "I have nothing else to lose."
Azalea bit her lip to hold back tears.
"Thank you, Nyir," she held her head down so Nyir couldn't see her tears. "I was so happy when I saw you alive… I'm glad you're with me. We'll bring back the kingdom. We'll have our revenge. I'm sorry for only thinking about myself, not wanting to lose you, instead of looking at what you wanted."
Nyir hesitantly placed her hand on the girl's head, the only way she ever truly showed affection. "I won't leave your side, I vow it." She dropped her hand and sighed, tilting her head back to keep anymore stray tears from falling.
"Thank you, Nyir," Azalea repeated, this time loudly. She wiped her eyes and took a deep breath. "We have two more hours till sunrise. We should rest until then."
"I agree," Nyir said, her voice back to its normal, indifferent tone. "Sleep. We'll rise early tomorrow and see if we can find the warrior."
(Eyes till sunrise?)
Azalea nodded and made herself comfortable against the wall next to Nyir. She didn't feel okay knowing she was comfortable on a mattress while Nyir was on the cold, hard floor. Soon, they wouldn't even have the mattresses. She should get used to sleeping on the ground.
Nyir wanted to force Azalea to sleep on the bed, but decided against it. She let herself sink into a half conscious state until dawn.
