"Nope this is the place. Best coffee I've ever had, and it's cheap and close. Plus it's a like a little safe haven away from my usual life. I don't feel so lonely here." He shrugged and took another sip. "Oh boy will I regret that muffin later." He sighed. "Oh well…hey are you gonna get something?"
Amyr shook his head lightly. "No, I'm not. Though I'm glad this is your favourite café, it's a really nice thing to hear." He took out his phone for a brief second and then quickly shoved it back into his pocket. "So, I suppose this would be a nice time to get to know each other a little before my break is over. And I'm assuming you're on one too? So, do you have any aspirations?"
He shook his head no, still pretty guarded about anything personal. "No not really. You?" He asked simply, taking another sip and checking over his work and school schedule.
Amyr tilted his head slightly and put a finger on his chin in thought. "No, I don't have any. I guess I'm kind of alright with where I am," he answered. "Though some days I do wonder what it would be like to do something else. Or perhaps even be someone else." He began to focus on the wall instead of Ashton and his eyebrows began to furrow some. "Perhaps it would be better if I were someone else…" he began to think out loud, hardly recognizing that there was someone listening to him still.
"Hey. I'm not your therapist. But. Maybe you just need a change. Invite something new in, take up skate boarding because what the hell why not." He shrugged and stretched a bit, and groaned. "Shit…boss isn't gonna like this…oh well he can always get Mikey to fill in. Or Jax." He scratched at his head a bit, and took a breath.
Amyr snapped his gaze back to Ashton and let out a small, awkward laugh. "Oh, u-uh, I didn't realize I speaking out loud. Thanks though." His lavender orbs gently scanned the room. "I'm sorry I'm so boring, do you have any questions or would you like for me to ask another one?"
"Naw go ahead, ask away." Ashton couldn't help but get lost in his eyes for a moment. "A friend of mine has purple eyes." He said casually. "So damn proud of being the only person to have purple eyes. Boy will she be mad when I tell her I met you."
His eyes widened slightly at the compliment but quickly returned to normal size and were paired with a soft smile. He let out a light chuckle and spoke again a bit louder than the noise. "Okay, what's something in the world that you hope never changes?"
"My sister not finding me. So then why were you at the park at 2:00 am?" He asks with a big gulp of his coffee.
"I usually go to the park to read or walk after my job," he explained, "though yesterday was a bit of an odd day. I worked way later than I had expected." He carefully pulled his smooth, black hair over his shoulder and ran three spidery fingers through it, a few knots in it untangling. "I have another question. I know a typically question to ask is about someone's dream job, so I'm curious what job you'd absolutely hate doing."
"Oh anything construction or super dirty. Plumbing sewage… fuck that. Cleaning houses too. I look good in a maids outfit but Brittany should just learn to pick up a broom. Oh and reality TV star or anything like that. Bunch of BS." He shook his head and took a gulp, and nearly spat it out. "Shit! Forgot this was coffee and not whiskey." He coughed a bit and took a breath. "If you could live anywhere in the world, for free, where would that be?"
"But this world's so limited…" he mumbled, soon picking up a louder tone. "Umm, perhaps Italy? I don't really know, I haven't looked much into other places, so I'm not really sure," he sighed, "though if I could live here for free that would be nice, I guess. What about you?" He pulled the hair tie from the ponytail atop his head and used to tie his hair back into a low ponytail, leaving out two long bangs framing the sides of his face.
"Hm? Oh. Hmm…maybe Paris. Some place with food dancing culture." He said the last part a little quieter, embarrassed a bit. "This may be rude, but what the hell. What's your sexuality? I'm gay so I'm not gonna hate on you or anything."
Amyr's lips twisted slightly. "My sexuality? Hmm, I'm not really sure," he replied. "I haven't really even thought about it at all." He thought back to what Ashton had said prior to the question. "Oh! And Paris is lovely I've landed –sorry– been there once. I tried escargot while I was there. It wasn't… my… thing. So tell me more about why you want to go to Paris in specific. Why not any other city in France?"
He shrugged. "I really don't know any other place in France…?" He said awkwardly, sipping his coffee. "Didn't pay very much attention in geography class. It's cool that you went there though." He said with a nod.
Amyr chuckled slightly at the response. "Fair enough," he said, his smile extremely wide and thin as the words slipped off of his tongue. He quickly pulled out his phone to check the time, 14 more minutes until his break was going to be over. "So, if by some miracle you didn't have to worry about money for a day, what would you spend the day doing? Or would you go on with the day as usual?"
"Hm? Oh probably as usual. Just put the money towards a house and other things." He said with a shrug. By this point his coffee was about half done but he really didn't want to go back yet.
"Hey, would you like another coffee?" Amyr asked. "It seems that one is running a bit low. I'd pay for it too if you'd like." He really just wanted an excuse for Ashton to stay a little longer, he didn't want to spend the last 10 minutes of his break bored and alone.
"I'll be fine. Gotta eat light, keep skinny." He shrugs. "Keep off the pounds ya know. Make it easier to work." He nodded and took a gulp.
Amyr nodded slowly, checking his phone again to see that only a minute had passed. "Well, shouldn't you be going soon? Or are you already off work?" He decided to give up on getting Ashton to stay and rather seeing if he could coax the other into leaving before his break was over.
"Hm? Oh no. I'm staying my whole friggin break and then walking back. Work can wait. I'd rather spend my time here, with you." He said the last part quieter, actually a little sheepish. He was surprised at this shy feeling, but shook his head and pushed on. "I have no idea when I get off work actually. I may end up just working another 24 hour shift. Flick will be fine. He likes crickets so if you could catch some and feed them to him that would be great. If not I'll drop by, probably late. Just leave the door unlocked if you brought him in. I won't touch a thing, just grab my little buddy and go." He said this with a nod.
"Okay. Well, I've only got around 10 minutes left to my break," he said, carefully rubbing a small coffee stain of the edge of the table with the cloth on his shoulder. His eyes locked onto the other boy for a moment, something in them slightly changing. Almost a more scrutinizing look showed itself within Amyr's eyes. It was as if there was something about Ashton that he just wasn't sure about, didn't trust even.
"Well, you can come by late, though I won't leave my door unlocked," he declared, "you can just ring the doorbell. If I'm asleep, I'm bound to wake up. I'm not a heavy sleeper." As the sentence finished, he trained his purple orbs onto the oak wood table in front of them.
Ashton noticed this change, and gave him a quizzical look. "Hey did I do anything wrong? You gave me a judgemental look." He said this with a certain toughness to his voice, noticing the way the man before him eyes refused to meet his.
