Suddenly Evelyn went rigid, but relaxed slowly. If she played her cards right, then things would be fine. "Well, then, we should head off to Obdin." Obdin was a small island on the other side of the world, Achara was the main trading port and the most heavily populated out of any other pieces of land. Now, this surprised you. Sometimes Evelyn couldn't even tell Left from Right.
"That little island fuck-all far away?" Osora raised an eyebrow, noting the way Evelyn had tensed. She wouldn't ask, but she would pay attention. She had her own secrets to keep, so adding other people's onto her own wasn't something she was interested in, unless they posed a threat to what she was trying to do. "While I can see the appeal for a green-eyed runaway, wouldn't heading somewhere with more people, somewhere easy to blend in and go unnoticed, be ideal?"
"Ah, no. Obdin is the main magic infuser. I'm friends with one of her siblings, and as far as I'm concerned, she's still there." Crystal Love Rosethorn, kind magical lesbian ruler of the biggest magical influencer of all the land, had 16 children. All of them adopted, except for Marianne who died of disease. "We gotta go there. It's what the king wants for the spoon up his ass like his father and his last name son, then so be it."
“I’ve got no better suggestions, so I guess that’s where we’re headed.” That was about the closest to ‘good idea’ that anyone ever heard from Osora. “I need to stop in Hildeford on our way. A… friend of mine’s been dealing with some trouble from a local Dark Guild.”
"Ooh! Magic! Fun!" She began to tune her guitar a bit, smiling. Her horse more controlled Evelyn, but the horse also listened to you better and was used to just trailing behind you, letting Evelyn do her crazy and stupid antics. Just then Evelyn remembers something and checks her saddlebags. "Good, I do have it." You catch a flash of gold and then whatever it is,got stuffed back into the bag.
"Magic is only fun if it's not being used against you." There almost seemed to be a double meaning to Osora's words, and really, there was. If it wasn't outright, her own magic was being used against her as cause for alienation. The flash of gold caught her eye, and she looked over, raising a pale eyebrow. "Whatever's that important, try not to drop it while we're travelling. What is so important?"
"Hm? Oh. Just a little somethin' I picked up when I was travelling alongside Oakland. Given to me by a certain princess lover." Oakland was a knight, dead now, who had fallen for his bard. Everyone could see it. He had died for her. Then she was reassigned to you. She held up the little crown. "She said it was her favorite, and to bring it back whenever I want to see her again. But that will never happen, mostly cause if I ever run out of gold, I can run this for a high price." She did barding for the passion of it, not for the money. Though the adventuring and travelling was pretty nice as well. It had its perks, though 50% certain death wherever they went was not one of them.
"Glad to see the materialism hasn't taken over you completely yet." Osora said, nodding. She didn't get attached to anything, and quite a few people believed that extended to people as well. It wasn't quite true, as there was one thing she packed around with her, but the small rock stayed hidden in the company of others. "A princess, huh? Quite the accomplishment."
((And ya know, the bard.)) She nodded. "Mhm! Can't remember her name, I so drunk I thought I was the knight. She's probably married now anyways."
"Imagine showing back up there, if she was married." She said, shaking her head. Her lips twitched slightly, almost imperceptibly, the closest thing to a smile anyone had seen her give.
."Oh boy what fun! Ruin a marriage, that's for sure!" She nods and hums a note as she tunes her guitar.
"The confidence in that statement is incredible." She stated, shaking her head. She scratched behind her stallion's ears as he walked, a small bit of affection that was normally saved for animals.
"Oh hush, you know I'm only kidding Osora. I wouldn't do that, not ever. Even I know the sacred vows of love and treat them with respect. I'm a bard, I'm a fuck ass not an asshole." She then returned to tuning her guitar with a nod. "Damn it! Gonna need new strings soon…" She muttered under her breath as she kept doing her thing.
“Love.” Osora repeated, shaking her head slightly. She’d never quite been able to get behind the idea of romantic love. Platonic and familial? Absolutely. Her friends and family were the most important things to her. But romance? It seemed more like something from fairy tales, the kind of thing that stayed on the pages of a book. “We can grab you new strings in Hildeford.”
She nodded. "Good. Though replacing them is gonna be a bitch…but tis the price I pay as a bard." Evelyn on the other hand knew love like the back of her hand…at least casual love. One night stands and fake I Love You's but real love? She had only ever felt it once. And vowed to never fall again. She vowed upon her mothers grave, and had ever since made sure to keep it. Osora was to serious to fall for anyways, no matter how pretty she was. Evelyn put away her guitar and searched through one of the saddle bags and pulled out an apple. She had literal apple portals in her bag of snacks, connected to some far off orchard from one of their travels. She handed the apple to you and got out another, taking a bite, and went off into a contented silence as she looked around, enjoying the scenery.
Osora blinked down at the apple, still surprised to be handed food like that even after so much time travelling together. It was something she'd yet to get used to, in a place that feared her so much. Her family had, at one point, been the only ones to ever treat her as anything other than a monster, up until she had managed to make friends with a group of people who had long since split ways, but still kept in touch often. Her family away from home, the only people in this kingdom who really saw her, beyond her abilities.
Evelyn smiled. "Wot?" She asked between bites. "I doubt you had breakfast so eat up, we'll need the energy for starters. I have some jerky in here somewhere as well…" She trailed off in thought, trying to remember which bag it was in and shrugged, giving up, and returned to her contented silence.
"It's fine, don't worry about it. I don't eat breakfast most days anyway." Osora said simply, glancing up at Evelyn. Though her face was as expressionless as ever, a new emotion flashed in her eyes, something like gratitude. Strange, considering her eyes were usually stony as her face. She looked back at the apple, taking a bite as she shifted in the saddle to get a bit more comfortable for the ride ahead of them.
She smiled, having learned over the years to read Osora. She took care of her at times, and never minded helping the knight, since she had saved her life so many times. She began to whistle a tune, when their cheery silence was broken by someone screaming. "HEEEEEELP! GOBLIN RAID" Way off in the distance. More screams sounded and as we drew closer the ground shook. "Oh boy…we should avoid that. Right Osora?" She glanced at her knight, already knowing that they were going to go right into the heart of it.
