Amber watched her father as her threw a knife with such precision that it hit the rabbit right between its eyes, "Can I try, Papa?" she asked. Amber wanted to be a great hunter just like her father.
"Sure!" Amber's dad laughed, "Now, get into your stance and wait for the perfect moment," he instructed her, "And… NOW!"
Amber flung the knife and missed the rabbit be a few centimeters, it gave her a startled look and hoppeed away, "Now what? It ran away!"
"You have to find another one," her dad coached, "But for now… tell me, is this edible or not?" he held up a branch with what looked like blueberries on it.
"No," Amber replied, "That's nightlock. Just a bit of it and you're dead."
"That's right!" her father said, "Now, we gotta get to work," Amber followed her father to the fields to harvest the crops. She was antsy knowing the Reaping was tomorrow.
Hawk lead Eva to a cliff, a beautiful one where you could watch the sunset. Hawk smiled, and Eva said, "I put my name in eleven times…. my family, you know. Every year, and with some dumb luck, I never get picked." Hawk replied, "Well, same. I did it about eight per year, never got chosen. But hey, if you get picked, I want just one last kiss." Eva pressed her face to his, the feel of his hair, the soft smell of wild strawberries from days of foraging, her heart raced.

Caleb quickly strutted past the workers assembling the stage for the reaping on his way home from school, not wanting any unwanted attention from the peacekeepers surrounding the construction. The peacekeepers were always more brutal during the time of the reaping, as if somehow increasing the number of people being whipped everyday would help calm the local populace. You're going to be just fine, he thought, most 12 and 13 year olds aren't even reaped. But still, he couldn't shake the feeling that tomorrow was going to be his impending doom.
Hawk really loved Eva. She was so tough, yet so fragile. He broke away, smiling, and hugged her.

(The 1 survivor. And they can be anyone. The death of Eva/Hawk could have one of them start it, and if they don't survive another character could continue the rebellion)
