"What do you want to be?" Rey asked, "If you want to be brave, you could be a Gryffindor. I think it has more to do with desire and goals than it does with who you already are. Don't knock yourself down this early. You haven't even started."
He kind of laughed. "My first year, I got made fun of for being a 'Hufflepuff in Slytherin's clothing.' Honestly, how pathetic is that on their part?"

"My parents," she began, then stopped suddenly. For a moment, she didn't speak, just looked intently at him and thought about what she wanted to say. Eventually, her lips opened again and words poured out like a small stream and turning into a rushing wave. "My parents are both purebloods, and they want me to be in Slytherin. My father especially. I don't know what he would do if I were to end up in Gryffindor. And besides, even if I wanted to be brave, I couldn't be. I'm not brave at all…" She hadn't meant to say all that, and once she was finished, she curled up a little. "I'm sorry," she whispered.

"Don't be sorry," Rey said soothingly, "And hey, even if you do end up in Slytherin, you've got me. We aren't all bad apples. But yeah… sometimes people don't end up in the house you'd expect. There's nothing wrong with you making a choice like that. And if your parents are outraged that you're not in Slytherin, tell them the Sorting Hat did it. Simple enough."

"I guess," she replied, back to her short, quiet sentences. Her eyes darted around nervously like she expected someone to jump out and grab her.

Cassandra slipped out of Flourish and Blotts and into Ollivander’s, poking her head inside. He’s got a customer. Better to come back later. She then headed to Madame Malkin’s, since her robes were in need of an upgrade.

"You need a pewter cauldron and some other things for potions, right?" Rey asked, trying to remember what all was on the first year list of supplies. "Why don't you go that way first, so you can have something to haul around your books in? I can come with you if you want."

(It's totally fine! ;D)

She nodded quickly. "Can you please?"

@Becfromthedead group

Rey nodded. "I have to get a few supplies for potions too anyway."
He started walking in the direction of the potions shop, checking over his shoulder to make sure the girl was following him.
(What's the potions shop called again?)

(Potage's Cauldron Shop?)
Melissa stood up and followed him warily. Her steps got shorter as they approached the crowd and her breathing became clipped.

As Rey walked, the crowd parted around him pretty easily. That was one of the perks of being tall. He looked back every few seconds to make sure Melissa was still close.

Melissa stayed close to him, trying not to bump into anyone. Her eyes darted around anxiously the whole time.

Rey finally made it out of the crowd and into the shop. He wandered right over to where the cauldrons were. "Um… so pick one out, I guess? Then we can go look for any of the other things we need for potions."

Melissa looked at the cauldrons and picked one that she thought was good.

Rey made his way towards the ingredients and picked up a few that he had on his list. He occasionally checked to make sure Melissa was still there.

Melissa wandered over into a corner of the shop. She looked at some bottles filled with murky liquids or gases.
"Interested?" the helpful shopkeeper asked, swooping over to her.
"N-No," she stammered, shaking her head.

"I'm going to buy my things. Tell me what you need, and I can help you find them in a minute," Rey said, walking towards the counter. The shopkeeper followed him, took his money, and thanked him.
Rey shuffled back over to where Melissa was examining various ingredients.

Melissa looked up again when Rey approached. "I don't think I need anything else in here," she whispered. "They don't have phials here, do they? I didn't see any."

Deleted user

Melissa nodded and walked slowly to where he directed. Another girl was there, looking at phials as well. Melissa could only assume she was another first year. In her typical fashion, Melissa said nothing and tugged her hair over her face. She waited for a minute or two for the girl to walk away before approaching the supplies.

Luna finally grabbed the book, paid for her items and walked to find Leo. She kept her head down trying to avoid any Slytherins that had bullied her in the past.
