"Just get it out please Caleb" she begged tears rolling down her cheek.
"Just get it out please Caleb" she begged tears rolling down her cheek.
Caleb nodded, swallowing hard and fished out a pair of tweezers from his pocket. He peeled back the fabric again and quickly ripped the bullet out.
briar whipered because of the pain.
Lizzie looked for some towels or cloth to cover the wound with, having seen her mother do it when she had gotten home with an injury
Btw shes five)
"Thankss" she said.
Caleb took off his shirt and pressed it against the wound. "Lizzie, towels are in the bathroom to my right under the sink."
Briar closed her eyes again.
(Yea. I know.)
Caleb nodded. "I'm sorry… I wish could've given you some anesthetic."
"don't worry about it".
Caleb brushed some of her hair out of her eyes lovingly. "I'm… sorry I wasn't here for the past five years."
"I left you" she said sadly.
She nodded and ran to the bathroom "the white one?!"
Caleb yelled back to Lizzie. "Doesn't matter sweetie! Just as long as it's clean!" Then he turned back to Brair and slipped a hand into hers. "I should've tried to find you, but I was afraid I had done something wrong…"
She grabbed some towels and ran back to the living room "mommy…is she going to be ok?" she asked, not really caring if she was in a room with a stranger, though finding something very familiar about the man
she put a hand on his face stroking his cheek.
Caleb put a reassuring hand on Elizabeth's head. "Momma's gonna be just fine. Don't you worry your pretty lil' head darling." He smiled at Briar when she stroked his cheek. He turned his head just a bit to kiss her palm, closing his eyes. "Mm.. This is nice… I wish I could stay with you forever…"
Briar sighed before smiling up at him,
Lizzie giggled and nodded, reassured by his words
Caleb sighed, knowing he wouldn't be able to. A cop and a criminal? Never mix.
"if you were able to give up your criminal life we could I get get you out of jail".
Caleb looked up at Briar, a lump in his throat forming. His eyes stung. "It's not an issue of giving it up… but you know what I've done. I could never live that down. I could never be a good father. My chances were obliterated long ago…." He looked away, blinking hard.
Lizzie glanced up at the man, seeing that his eyes were filling with tears. She sat on the ground and watched him "what's your name?"
"Caleb " she said softly.
Caleb looked at the small child. Briar was right. She had his eyes and hair, but you could distinctly see her mother in her. "… My name's… Caleb. And I know you're Elizabeth, right?" He knelt so he was a little more eye-level with her. "Are you a good girl for your momma?"
Caleb looked up at Briar, still trying to swallow the tumor-like lump in his throat, but it seems to just grow.
