"Good. I thought I lost you there." She smiled and nudged him playfully, looking towards the waterfalls and the afternoon light cut through the water.
"Good. I thought I lost you there." She smiled and nudged him playfully, looking towards the waterfalls and the afternoon light cut through the water.
Felix smiled and then sat down, "Lunch?"
"Sounds good," She grabbed the food from her horse and sat down next to Felix.
"What's to eat?"
She pulled out a bunch of sandwiches filled with different types of meats, some cheese, vegetables and small cakes. "Don't tell the cooks I took some. They apprentices are very easy to distract."
"Well, they're apprentices after all." Felix shrugged.
Caelum nodded and picked up a sandwich, watching her horse run around the waterfalls.
"I had horses back home. My favorite was…" Felix was freaking out. He'd named the horse Caelum. "Umm. Her name's..um..Waterfall! Yeah."
"Waterfall. That's a nice name." She replied. "Did you ride them a lot?"
"Yeah, a lot." Felix smiled, relieved Caelum had taken the lie.
"No wonder you can always beat me." She sighed, grinning. "I didn't have many pets growing up. . . I came from a very poor family."
"I was on a farm." Felix laughed, "I had an accent for my first few years, remember?"
"You would tease me about it."
"Ah, yes, the accent." She laughed, remembering it. "I teased you quite a lot, but you were a good soldier."
"I was." Felix said, proudly. "My twin, she accuses me of being fancy. 'Felix,' she says, 'Why do you and yer sol-der peeps ha' to fight?'"
She laughed and smiled. "I can't wait to meet her. But, you would tease me too, tugging on my messy braids and how they weren't 'professional.' You should have seen your face when I beat you in a sword fight."
"I was so embarrassed because I'd teased you."
She grinned. "That just made my victory even sweeter. Being much smaller helped too . . . I would just run around the taller and bigger kids."
"You were a beast out there. My specialty was sword-fighting."
"You could disarm me in seconds." She sighed, turning to face him. "I would train every single night just to beat you. I would barely sleep."
"I noticed and I would visit you. Every night to make sure you were asleep." Felix held onto her shoulder.
"Really? I never noticed. . . guess you were pretty quiet." She said, blushing.
"Thank you." Felix bowed his head, "I'd been working on my ninja skills. But Trainer Cade always said I was too clumsy."
"If you can't wake me up, you're pretty quiet." Caelum replied. "Cade always said that I was too small, but now I outrank him."
"And now he's dead." Felix's face fell, "Died in the battle last week."
