"I'm confused on what this place is." Night said. "It seems like an asylum or a mental home? But we're allowed to come and go as we please."
"I'm confused on what this place is." Night said. "It seems like an asylum or a mental home? But we're allowed to come and go as we please."
“It’s a…home” Alfie says, “you can leave as long as you come back…all of us know that we can’t really stay gone”
"Has anyone tried to run and not come back?" Night asked.
"Yup, Virgil was found dead on the sidewalk." Marrin says from her spot on the couch.
"What?!?!?!" Nykidia said standing up causing the chair to fall backwards hitting the ground with a loud thud.
Alfie looks down, “I don’t usually even try to leave temporarily…it doesn’t go well”
Robin got his muffin and walked down the street to a general store and bought a small lighter and a pack of candles. Then he walked back to the grave yard and stood in front of the grave. Robin opened up the candles put one in the muffin then took the lighter out and lit the candle and just stood there.
Kaliyah started running around making coffee and fixin the bookshelves
Robin stood there for a few minutes before he blew out the candle. then he rested a candle on top of the grave lit it and walked away back to the place quietly.
Sage sighed as she came out of the kitchen. "Charlie told us before, the world is a dangerous place for kids like us. Those people out there don't want help us. In those assylums and mental wards, we are their occupation, their source of income. Nothing more. But Charlie? He really wants to help. So he lets us live like kids, with a few boundaries set for our safety…. So nothing…. Like Virgil happens again. There are people worse than us out there…" She plopped down in a chair, staring at the table. She remembered the day they found Virgil.
"The only time I talk about Virgil is when I warn people. Don't even try to ask me about my best friend." Marrin growled as ahe grabbed her blankets and began to walk up the stairs.
Alfie looks down at the table and scratches it with his nail. “Sometimes I really miss all the people that have come in here and then..left”
"It makes me remember how long we've been here…" Sage sighed. This was depressing to think about. All those who had come and gone.
Robin made sure to hide the lighter in his pocket as he got closer to the house. He walked in then walked up to his room and shut the door.
“But hey, good that is, though!” Alfie says, “after a while us who stick around start meaning a lot to each other”
"Yeah…" Sage agreed, giving Alfie a grateful smile. Always one to make things better. "Over the years, I learned this is my family…"
Nykidia looked around. "How long have you guys been here?" Nykidia asked. It seemed that they had seen so many people come and go. Did this place really help people?
Robin sat down on his bed and took out the lighter and looked at it.
"Since I was four." Marrin said, sitting down after putting away her blankets.
"Omg." Nykidia said quietly. "Why? We're the voices there for that long." Night asked.
"Not the voices, they're people." Marri insisted. "They have been there for as long as I can remember. Thankfully Charlie let me in, he's my uncle so…"
"Sorry, People. I've been almost trained to call them voices because if Nykidia called me a person at the other places they would hurt her." Night said apologizing.
"I know." Marrin said shuddering. "I was out of Charlie's care or a bit and sent to a therapy camp, they hurt me and them."
"Nykidia doesn't like talking about them." Night said. "So have you people always been there?" Nykidia asked.
"Rowan and Ed have been there for a while, some of the others have come more recently."
