Death adopted a daughter and took on an apprentice. The two fell in love, and soon afterwards Death became a grandfather. The twins were raised with their parents in the mortal realm, but soon afterwards the parents died of disease. The twins were taken in by two separate groups and raised apart from each other, eventually forgetting the other existed. The girl was taken in by a school and given a good education and became a governess, the boy was taken in by the Assassin's Guild and though he received an education, it wasn't in and of itself a good one, in fact it was a rather malicious one.
The Auditors hated life. It was, in their opinions, a stain on the metaphorical white-colored blazer of the universe. The universe in question was one where there was a holiday quite similar to your Christmas. And so, it was the night before Hogswatch when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, except for a mouse that gotten itself caught in a trap only a few seconds after it had left it's mouse hole. The Auditors had hired the Assassin's Guild to send out one of it's members to inhume the Hogfather. Their plan was for the assassin to go to the Tooth Fairy's Tower Of Molars and take the teeth, put them in the middle of the Tower, and cast a spell to control human belief. If you had a piece of someone's nail, tooth, or hair, you could control them. The Auditors thus commanded for the spell to then be used to make people cease to believe in the Hogfather. But someone might just be up to the job of saving Christmas. Or not?

Okay, so for important character information about the twins (i may be overdoing it but they are sort of the main characters):
The twins have powers, which are:
-Walking through walls.
-Being able to stop and resume time, but it's more like stepping outside of time than anything.
-Remember future events, but it's like looking at the future through a keyhole. You can see events but they rarely make any sense until they've happened to you already.
-Invisibility.
-Be able to locate the exact physical location of anyone.
-Be able to see, or rather be unable to ignore, invisible things.
-Use "Their grandfather's voice", (when typing it you use all capital letters so that one can distinguish it from "normal" speech) to command or intimidate others.
The twins also have certain supernatural physical features, such as:
-Hair that restyles itself based on mood and or actions.
-Birthmark of a skull on their right palm that glows when they are angry or upset or feeling strong negative emotions.
