Roleplay that begins in a mental hospital. Band of 3 mentally ill kids decide one day to escape into the outside world, even though they have close to no idea what it's really like—and in the process, learn maybe not how to cure themselves, but how to become better people and better friends.
Here's my character—I'll also help establish setting and plot until you're confident enough to add your own spices into the plot.
Name: Sylvan Martin-Chester
Gender: Male
Disorder/Illness: Multiple Personality Disorder (or renamed recently in the DSM, Dissociative Personality Disorder)
History: Sylvan's mother killed herself when he was five. She was the typical "hippie" persona (Carna). His father joined a cult shortly after, leaving their home behind and bringing Sylvan into it. The cult beheld an obsession with a wolflike systemic "pack", where people had to fight for ranks (Lupus). They did not hold symbolism to reverence like most religions, but instead sequences of numbers, and instead of hymns, they'd recite said sequences (Seacht). Sylvan's father was desperate for some kind of redemption, feeling guilty for the loss of his wife, and his emotional battle made Sylvan lean towards those who were more emotionally cold and logical (Benjamin). His father strove so much for redemption, he adopted a delusion about the sea speaking to him, and he threw his son into the ocean believing the sacrifice would cleanse himself. Sylvan lost consciousness in the sea (Gill) and woke up on shore and was taken to a foster home for a short while where he befriended a kid with some intense ADHD (Edgar), and when his MPD arrived, was transported to the Hospital.
Personalities
Sylvan
• Primary persona
• Introverted, plays with hair as comfort tic
• Naïve to shiloh, yet still pretty smart. Just really unsure of himself
Gill
• Selectively mute, knows ASL
• aquaphobic for any amount of water as or larger than a bathtub full
• Tendency to space out
• Originates from the specific experience of drowning. Gill for the fish, selectively mute because he remembers trying to scream for help and the water stopped him. Aquaphobia is pretty obvious.
Edgar
• Comedic personality. Imprinted like a duckling onto Shiloh
• Originates not from trauma, but from positive experience of rescue.
• Edgar and Sylvan are most common personas in a "normal" or healthy, stable environment. Without Shiloh it's almost always just Sylvan.
Lupus
• Very volatile and dangerous personality.
• "Rabid dog" personality
• Emerges in cases of extreme physical violence
• In most cases, can only be subdued by sedatives or containing him til he sleeps it off/exhausts himself and wakes up into a docile personality.
Carna
• Female, acts like a young adult mother
• Very nature-centric, docile
• Randomized, but very rare due to the old memory of his mother
Seacht
• Six Seven= Seacht Seacht in Gaelic
• Gender unknown
Benjamin
• Older teenage boy
• Cold, logical
• Lacks empathy
• Sassy and rude, docile until triggered.
• Emerges normally when something is tearing up his emotions (conflicts)
Oof, forgot appearance:
Sandy blond hair, dark brown eyes. A bit of a narrow face and potruding ears—though he's fifteen, still kind of looks like he's ten years old. 5'6, and rather lanky.
Yeah! Go ahead & post a bio!
( also replace Shiloh w/ the foster home friend, lol. I copy and pasted from my story, shiloh isnt apart of this OvO )
Ah, time to figure out what mentally strange characters they are… I have a few with DID but I don't want to copy you… Maybe I'll use my paranoid child…. Hmm….
Me too!
Would it be okay if I used someone with DID?
If not it's totally fine.
Yeah, go ahead! Its totally fine :3
Name: Brent Lynn
Gender: Male, uses They/Them at times.
Disorder/Illness: Dissociative Identity Disorder
History: Brent grew up in a normal household, middle class, nothing fancy but then again, nothing run down. However, this normal household could not protect him from being sexually assaulted, by a teacher no less. This is where some of his primary protectors have spawned from. After that, he was subjected to bullying from his peers when he was entering middle school, this was mostly from his DID, which had not been diagnosed at the time. He was hit and often accused of things he did not do, this lowered his self-esteem and another alter split off. He went to high school, the bullying getting more physical and even more emotional. By now, his father had died and he was being raised by his mother and his highly religious grandmother. His grandmother thought he was possessed with demons because of his DID. His mother did not listen to her but soon gave into it. His mother was scared that Brent wasn't her son anymore.

Felix

- A trauma holder
Kyle
- A trauma-free alter
- Usually comes out from positive triggers
- Is it bit goofier
- The one of youngest alters, but not a little
Sammy

- Is a trauma holder like Felix
Cookies
- An animal alter
- Trauma holder
- Was one of the main protectors but is no longer
Oliver
- The most submissive alter
- Split off of the assault
- Does not speak
- Is triggered very easily
There are more of them, these are just the ones that come out the most.
I'm almost finished, but I need to check. Did you want all 3 of them to be males?
I don't really care either way, I'll leave it up to you
Name: Lilith Steele
Gender: Female
Disorder/Illness: Psychosis - result of prior psychiatric illness. She lost touch with reality, suffers from delusions, hallucinations, and disorganized behavior and her speech is rather nonsensical at some points. She often blurts out and/or repeats random words or goes on strange tangents, either speaking too fast or experiencing difficulty. She also has nightmares that she can retell in accuracy…..well, her accuracy.
History: Lilith’s family was very twisted and odd. Her father was a loan shark who couldn’t be worried with a daughter and her mother was never home. Her family was filled with death and murder but her grandmother had always treated her as though she were worth something. She remembered that she always called her “Little goat.” She would tell Lilith that she was sorry and that there was no other way, she would wash the girl and make sure she had nice things and did good in school. When Lilith turned 16, things began to change. Life was too much to bare. Her grandmother became more strict on the things she did, telling her that she had to remain ‘pure and undefiled.’ Her father’s lifestyle began to mingle with hers trapping her in constant cycles of trickery and death, and being without a mother left her lost and alone.
“That’s when Mr.Rabbit came along, I’d chase and chase and chase…..but I can never catch him.”
Her health started to suffer but so did her mind, she began hearing cries and screams wherever she went. She always felt she was being followed and woke up in a bed soaked in blood. She was settled in the mental hospital by the next year, the only reminder of her family being a handwritten letter from her grandmother. She denounced her as her granddaughter and said for her to never try to contact them again. But she did say she loved her, and that’s what Lilith remembers.
“I’m her little goat…. Her precious little scape goat…”
I love her and would kill for her
Oke oke ok i should get us started
It was noon, and thus, was lunchtime– the only time of day (on a normal day) that they had somewhat free reign about the facility.
And Sylvan– Edgar, normally, at this time– was at Brent's room door, breathing fog onto the reinforced window, waiting for his friend to emerge.
