Tanrial nodded, “Sounds like you’ve got a pretty good system going here.”
Tanrial nodded, “Sounds like you’ve got a pretty good system going here.”
"Yup. Thirty years old and still improving. Dad threw his heart and soul into this place, and played real hard to get it staffed and powered properly. He doesn't give himself enough credit–there's not another facility this high-tech in the country."
(brb, eatin' supper quickly)
“Yeah, this place is pretty high-tech, takes you back to when this thing was a common sight…”
(Okay)
"She's, like 400 years old," Bernon explained helpfully.
"I know, I read the file." Eric started the elevator going and leaned against the wall. "And you've got a bear form, huh? And lightning and water? Pretty fancy."
'Uh, yeah. Thanks." Bernon blinked. "How…..do you know all this exactly?"
"It's not telepathy or anything. We have scanners and tests that detect and identify types of magic. Everybody that comes here has to have a file, it's standard process so we know what kind of energies might be floating around and disrupting experiments in the labs. They're all harmless, non-invasive scans, so the doctors probably just did them while you were knocked out. Mike, your file is completely blank. Congratulations, you're one of the ever-more-rare pure-blooded humans with no magic genes, dormant or otherwise."
"Really," Mike said. "Well, how about that."
“Would you look at that, congrats Mike.” Tanrial said, still not quite believing it herself, “Complete opposite to me then.”
"Hm, yeah."
Eric tilted his head at Tanrial. "That reminds me….I saw on your file that you had some kind of health issue? The techies thought it might be just a glitch in the scan, so they put it down as unidentified….any idea what that might have been?"
Tanrial frowned a little, “Well, if I use my power it becomes quite draining and yeah, can cause problems but that’s all I can think of. Other that that I don’t know.”
"Hmm. Weird. Well, I hope it's nothing serious." Eric let the matter drop as the doors opened. "Here we are. Be warned, it's pretty humid in here."
The first room was huge, and filled with plants. The stood in neat rows, everything from vegetables to grains to small trees. The ceiling was a complex network of skylights and heat lamps, and workers were scattered here and there, tending the plants.
(Gotta go now, seeya later ^^)
“Wow, this place is…” Tanrial looked up and shielded her eyes from the sun, “It’s hot for a start but great.”
(Seeya later ^^)
"Isn't it? I love hanging out down here in the winter." Eric started forward along a road between two fields. "This is where almost all our food and natural medicine comes from. We also have some livestock in a room near this one, but only small animals like chickens and pigs. We actually have some pygmy sheep for wool as well. They're super cute–like the size of badgers. We get most of our dairy products from a cattle farm in the valley that we trade weapons and workers with. They also give us beef sometimes too." He reached a central area from which several paths radiated and pointed. "On our right is the textiles room where we make our clothes and stuff. Most of it's wool, but we figured out how to synthesize polyester for tougher cloth. On our left are the workshops for miscellaneous hardware, such as furniture and light fixtures and so on. Up ahead is the miscellaneous software and delicate tech production area. All the machines in the labs and medbay, as well as the computers everywhere else, come from that area. I'd show you inside all these areas, but they're actually pretty loud and boring, like factories. Plus we probably shouldn't get in the way of the staff."
“Probably, looks like you’ve got everything figured out down here. If a bomb or something went off and everyone was trapped in the building, how long would you say you could survive for? Just curious as there’s a lot of resources down here.”
"Hmm. Gimme a minute." Eric surveyed the room, doing the mental math. "I'd say…..as long as our machinery holds out, and as long as we can keep the food supply sustainable, we'd last about fifteen to twenty years on what we've got here. We could probably go longer if we were willing to sacrifice some luxury and variety of diet."
(brb, might be back on, might not)
“That’s a long time, good but long.” She muttered, doing another quick scan of the room
(Okay)
The corner of Eric's mouth quirked up. "Why, do you know something we don't? Is there actually a bomb up there or something?"
“Hm? No, it’s curious.” She gave a one shouldered shrug.
"Okay. Well, shall we hit the military level right quick? It's pretty cool too."
“If you want.” Tanrial said, “I’m open to anything.”
"Cool." Eric led them back to the elevator and pressed the button second-from-the-top. "I spend a lot of time there. So does Jackie. We both command our own troops as of last year, and it's not as easy as it looks. But I'm glad Dad trusts us enough to give us so much responsibility."
(brb, eating right quick)
“Yeah, how many people in each troop? Or better question, how many soldiers do you have altogether?”
He laughed. "Nice try, but that's a bit confidential. I can tell you that I command two dozen soldiers, though. Dad and I hand-picked them as the elite guards here at the facility."
"And you're their captain?" Mike asked.
"Yup."
"At your age?"
Again, Eric laughed. "I've been training since I was three, you know. Don't judge a book by its cover."
“We wern’t judging, just… intrigued is all.” Tanrial responded.
"I know it might seem hard to believe. But you've probably already seen that there's a ton of unbelievable stuff down here. Look at my brothers and sisters. Most of them are under thirteen, and they're still so capable." The elevator doors opened and he stepped out onto a sort of catwalk with railings. "Here we are. Watch your step, we're pretty high up. "
(gotta go to bed now, seeya ^^)
