She nodded, “Yeah, I’m not human, Evyn actually,” She sighed, “You said, scientific power, so she wasn’t born with it? Like me or other people?”

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

"Well….it's complicated, like I said, but no, she wasn't born with the ability. From a very young age we gave her a treatment called 'gene therapy', or something similar. The tiny structure which make up her inherent identity have been modified to include lab-grown genes which code for certain skills never before seen in humans, such as Leila's ability to trigger sleep-patterns in the brains of others. The butterflies are mostly a visual aid to distract her target, although we've modified them to give of a drowsiness-inducing scent. Nothing magical about it."

@ElderGod-Carrots

She shrugged, “If you say so.. but there are humans that are born with magic, believe me, I know so is it possible that… that some of them were? Or where you just experimenting on humans that didn’t show any signs?”

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

The doctors looked at each other. "We've managed to identify the human genes which code for magic, here in this facility. Great care has been taken to only modify humans without those genes, so as not to spoil the results. We also have electronic sensors which detect magical energy, so we'd know if someone developed magic later in life."

@ElderGod-Carrots

She nodded, “Okay, I guess that’s… fine.” She looked at her knees for a moment, “Have you… have you had any non-humans here? Like me?” She asked, quietly.

(Okay, catch ya later ^^)
The woman sat back. "On occasion, briefly. Sometimes they donate blood or DNA samples." She smiled. "I know what you're thinking. We're not some lab of mad scientists doing horrible experiments on innocent people. Everyone who contributes to our studies does so willingly, and we do all we can to make the tests as humane and painless as possible. The worst injury we've had was the time an undergrad spilled his drink into a chemical compound and got some mild acid burns. We don't hire undergrads anymore." She stood up. "Now, you look like you're feeling better. If you think you're up to it, Mr. Ryker said he'd like to meet you soon. Is that all right?"

@ElderGod-Carrots

She nodded, “Yeah, that’s fine.” She looked over at the woman and gave her a small smile, “What about my friends? Wouldn’t he want to meet us altogether? You said they weren’t awake yet.”

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

"He only told me to notify him when you were allowing visitors. I expect he'll want to see all three of you eventually, so don't worry about that." She opened the door, beckoning to the other doctor. "He'll be here in a few minutes. If you need anything at any point, just speak up."

@ElderGod-Carrots

“Okay, thanks for the help.” She said and watched them go. Once they were, she let out a breath. At least she knew where she was and who Leila was. Tanrial couldn’t stop thinking about what the doctors told her about the scientific treatments. It felt wrong to her, maybe because she was born with it, or she wasn’t human but it felt odd to hear about. She shook her head to try and forget about it.

A few minutes later, the door opened again and Mr. Ryker let himself in. He was a tall, strongly built man in his late thirties, wearing a very nice navy blue suit with a striped silver tie. His hair was thick and blond, he had a neat gold beard, and his eyes were either brown or dark blue, it was hard to say. He walked with confidence and assurance, but didn't seem distant or snooty like other people of power. He smiled at Tanrial and sat down in the chair next to her bed.
"Good evening," he said amiably. "My name is Maxwell Ryker. I'm sorry, I don't know yours….?

@ElderGod-Carrots

"Tanrial." She replied, looking over at the man that now sat next to her bed. He didn't look terrible, not the super evil mater-minds that were portrayed on screens years ago. Just a man, with some kind of plan if he was going to use the machine.

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

"Tanrial? Good to meet you. I want to apologize for our rather rough treatment of you and your friends earlier. Leila is a very smart girl, but she tends to jump to conclusions sometimes. I hear that she's now interested in befriending you." He chuckled fondly. "I'd appreciate if you at least said hello to her later, she needs more friends than I can supply at the moment."
(brb, back in like an hour)

@ElderGod-Carrots

She smiled a little, "It's fine, she only did what she thought was right, even if it was knocking me out with some… weird butterfly magic," The thought still confused her, "And I can talk to her, friends can be hard to come by."
(okay)

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

(Okay, sorry for the wait, and I can only be on for a few minutes but hey)
"Thank-you. She's my adopted daughter, you know. I hope you will be able to meet my other children as well. Some of them are away on business, but most are here at my headquarters. I'm very proud of them, they're all exceptional individuals."

@ElderGod-Carrots

(That’s fine)
“Do your other children, do they have… abilities like Leila?” She asked, “I heard from my friend that there was a boy here who might have some form of magic.”

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

"Your friend would be that young man I hired then…Mike, right? Well, he's almost right. All of them have abilities, yes, but none of them have magic. I think the boy you're talking about is Eric. He's one of my brightest, and full of potential. You'll probably meet him as well at some point." Ryker paused and his expression became more serious. "Now….what about you three. I sent Mike out to find something for me. I take it he befriended you two on the way. Would you happen to know anything about his mission, and if it was successful?"
(okayyy, gotta go now, sorry!! Seeya later ^^)

@ElderGod-Carrots

Tanrial’s eyes widened a little, “Oh, right yeah… the mission, aha,” She coughed a little, “Well, um yes. Yes it was successful, we uh, have the machine or whatever it is for you… but,we wanted to know what you were going to do with it, before we give it to you. It’s nothing against you but… there are some people who would want to use things like that for bad, I guess, trying to damage the already damaged world.”
(Okay, seeya later^^)

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

Ryker nodded. "That's understandable. I'd do the same in your position." He sighed. "But see….I worried too, when I began to gain power and wealth, that it would corrupt me. I've seen it happen to others often enough. So I took certain steps to make sure I'd always feel accountable for my actions. One of those steps was to adopt children from various parts of the country. Being a father is the biggest responsibility I can think of, and nothing makes you more aware of right and wrong than that, I've found. I want them to be proud of me and my achievements." He smiled. "As for my plan itself, well….it's a little involved. Why don't we wait so I can tell all three of you at once, since I'm sure they'll want to hear it from me as well."

@ElderGod-Carrots

Tanrial nodded, “Yeah, I-I guess that’s true,” She pauses for a moment and crossed her legs on the bed, ”You know, it was really a coincidence that we all met. Some people would say fate but no such thing exists. A really strange coincidence…”

@ElderGod-Carrots

“I hadn’t seen any human where I lived for five years, then Bernon shows up. After a while we figured out he had magic so and so…” She frowned a little, “And a few nights later, Mike shows up at my door, asking for a place to stay for the night when he sees Bernon inside. He barges in, asking for some machine part that Bernon had… I just don’t see how I don’t see any human for years then two show up out of nowhere, and one has something the other needs.”

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

Ryker leaned forward, interested. "That does seem pretty odd. At the same time though, I've heard so many more stories lately of chance encounters like that. It's almost as if, with fewer people in the country, you're more likely to meet someone important." He became lost in thought for a moment, then shook his head and took out a small, flat, rectangular device with a glass front that lit up at his touch. "Do you know what this is? Not sure if the story of cellular communication is still told anywhere."

@Young-Dusty-the-Monarch-of-Dusteria group

"Wait, really? Unfair, I think that should be something you mention during introductions!" He grinned and shook his head, flipping to a new page on his phone. "Well, the doctor tells me that your friends are awake now. It seems Mike had a recent injury, so why don't we head down and meet in his room? I'll bet they'll be wanting to see you."
