This is my first time doing this sort of thing, so I'm hoping it goes well.
Welcome to this chat! I'm hoping to get at least 3 (no more than 5, though) other people in here to create an interesting magic world that could help push each of us to be better writers and thinkers. If you're interested in a fantasy roleplay sort of thing, keep reading on for details!
Warning: This is going to be really kind of detailed; if that's not your thing, please don't try and enter it
Warning 2: I might eventually make this into a book, so don't steal it
Rules:
- Do not ask to join once I announce the limit has been fulfilled; you will be either ignored or blocked, sorry
- This is not for romance; however, it is allowed, so you can eventually try to make that an aspect of the thread; don't try and rush into it, please
- Don't be upset if four people submit their characters and I don't choose yours; if this one's successful, I might have another similar one open soon
- No overpowered or "Mary Sue" characters; try to keep your characters in the reasonable spectrum of abilities
- No animal characters (unless they can transform into one; you'll see what I mean as you read)
- Try to respond as soon as you can; responses must be at least three sentences long, but also no longer than 10 at a time
- PG-13; no in depth cursing or intimate scenes
- Read everything below
World Description:
It's the year 3001 on the planet Espelia. About three years ago, two new branches of dangerous, infectious monsters suddenly spread through the Southeast, turning and mutating magic users of all species into similar deadly creatures called the Munsuli and Elyla. The majority of the survivors have either isolated themselves in societies with their magic, joined a war to save those trapped in hordes of the beasts, or become vigilantes with solo missions and a thirst for revenge. A dwindling amount of others work to find a cure for their diseased friends.
There's no end to the catastrophe in sight. People have already begun to go mad, destroying cities, murdering enemies, and stealing in preparation for the fall of the five major cities in the Northern Hemisphere. With the recent rumored breach of the first city, Commeza, the question has become not "if" but "when", creating a mass panic all over Espelia's three continents.
"There's no big victory, no heroic comeback this time. We're all going down to these brutes, one after the other. So, everybody, let me ask you- are you ready for the end?"
~ The last unturned survivor of the Fallen City (FC) Mininia, Cal Ruckhaus, on ESPE Radio in the year 3000
Three Continents:
- Ludreini- The North; colder, but full of life
- Mesa- The largest continent; the West; more humid and tropical, with some deserts and many forests
- Kyshuna- The mostly infected Southeast; has lots of storms
Munsuli Description:
Ethereal, smoky black or white beasts of a medium size with golden eyes, markings, and wings. They look a mix between sabertooth tiger, lion, dragon, and bird, with haunting calls, giant wings, and sharp teeth. The scariest thing is their common method of turning Espelians, in which they silently appear out of almost nowhere, drag their prey away, torture them slowly, and cut their eyes to infect them with their disease. This makes them blind, but their hearing and sense of smell is so strong that it's hard—but not impossible—to escape.
Elyla Description:
Nobody has seen them and lived, so there is no known record of their appearance; some say that the Elyla have calls like sirens, where they lure their victims to their deaths, while the more fearful say that they lurk in the shadows. No one knows for sure, not even those who were around during the attack.
Species of Espelia:
(MT= Magic Type; look below for guide)
- Average Espelians- They look like humans, but with differing styles, hair/skin colors, and occasionally different features, such as horns or oddly colored eyes. The average Espelian associates them self with the city they belong in (for example, people from Cordinah would be Cordinians), and they interact in their basic language. MT- Any except for Spirit/Life/Death, Space, or Light/Dark; can only have one MT
- Sydridas- Literally "People of the Sky". They're unconcerned with the Munsuli and Elylas because their kingdoms are in the clouds, but trade with those on the ground for supplies. Most have skin and hair tones that are shades of white, gray, blue, or purple to blend in with the sky. A large portion also have wings, which they use to carry them through the air, and good eyesight. MT- Storm/Air, Cold, and/or Water; can have two MTs, but one has to be fairly weaker than the other
- Dwellni (a little like dwarves)- People of medium height with strong, usually scarred bodies and skin smudges with soot or dirt. The Dwellni have fallen into the roles of architects, forgers, miners, racers, and jewelers because of their skills. MT- Metal/Earth, Enhancement/Charm, Fire, and/or rarely Nature; can have two strong ones
- Xelers- Mentally sharp, calm creatures with heightened senses and tame emotions. The average Xeler is slim, tall, and has eyes that change with their internal mood. They usually have skin with a rather metallic sheen, usually making them look silver or bronze, but aren't slow by any means. MT- Emotional/Mental, Enhancement/Charm, Healing/Protection, and/or Spirit (not Life or Death, though); can have two MTs, but usually use them only in moments of need
- Sevia Lareas- "The Warriors" in the common Espelian language. A Sevia Lareas civilian is typically dark-skinned (like indigo or navy) and streaked with light, branching lines that look like skinny bolts of lightning that glow when they use their magic. They're called warriors because they're strong and aggressive. A fair amount are currently fighting against the Munsuli and Elylas. MT- Light/Dark, Poison, Fire, or Storm/Air; only one, but it's a lot stronger than the Average Espelian's magic
- Daedelings- Vibrantly colored, naturally energetic people that usually have long hair (sometimes in fancy braids or styles), lean bodies, and friendlier personalities. Some live in nature, but a lot choose to bring nature into their cities and spread joy. They dislike the Xelers because they believe they're prideful, but are mostly fine with everyone else. MT- Nature, Water, Healing/Protection, Poison, Earth (but not Metal), and Spirit/Life (but not Death); Daedelings can have up to three (always including Nature), but having more abilities means they're usually weaker
- Mirra- They're shape shifters, but usually can only look like other people of Espelia, not animals. They have skin that's clear, but you can't see their organs or bones because they're reflective, not transparent. The Mirra are seen as suspicious, so they often hide who they really are in hopes that they'll fit into societies better. MT- Shifting only
- Spectral- Their name does not represent who they are, but rather what they look like. Spectrals typically have completely white eyes, very pale skin, and short white hair, making them look ghastly, but they're actually somewhat gentle and loyal. Many in society view them as people to be scared of, even though they make pretty decent companions. MT- Spirit (but not Death/Life), Mental (but not Emotional), Poison, and/or Light/Dark; can have up to two, but usually work better around other Spectrals
- Tencina- Translates to "The Broken-hearted Ones" because of how they became this species. The Tencina are those who have experienced the three "Phases": Romantic Heartbreak, Murder of a Close Companion, and Unfair Death. After they die, they rise as creatures that usually have dark gray skin, bright orange scars/veins, and glowing irises. Most Tencina are avoided as much as an Elyla or Munsuli, even though they're not particularly evil. MT- Spirit/Death (but not Life) and fire; Tencina have to have both of these MTs, but can't have any others (and their abilities drain them severely)
- Fytexi- They're like the Sydridas because they have wings, but they look/act far different. Many have shorter statures, gem-colored eyes, and live in villages around oceans. If they hunt or fish, they do so in their family packs. As a species, they've developed lighter bones to float and gills along their neck. MT- Water, Emotional (but not Mental), Healing/Protection, and/or Storm/Air; they can either have Water and Healing/Protection OR Storm/Air and Emotional, no more and no less (no rare cases, either)
- Xylax- Very unique creatures that aren't much like Espelians in that they can leave the planet and look more like half snake/half human hybrids. They have tails and can fly without wings, and most don't really care much for other species. The only Xylax Kingdoms are in space. MT- Only Space (if you want to be in the main story, I'd suggest not being a Xylax because they hardly visit the planet; this is more of a species for show; another species can also use the Space MT, so…)
- Idrastas- Companions usually to the Sevia Lareas because they're known as "The Defenders" or "The Inquisitors". The Idrastas have tough skin, are very clever, and work best in small groups. They most likely will be the strategists or protectors in a war. MT- Always Protection (but not Healing) and Emotional/Mental
- Vira Ideln- (Pronounced Vee-rah Ee-duln) The most sociable, and possibly extravagant, species in all of Espelia because of their massive parties and wealth. They have skin that's anywhere from light green to pink and usually wear some sort of jewelry, which they draw energy from. Many live in families that they inherit their money from. MT- Space, Light (but not Dark), and/or Enhancement/Charm; the Vira Ideln always have Enhancement/Charm, but alternate between Light and Space
- Mes Mirzas- People that live very far up in the North and have skin in shades of blue. The Mes Mirzas live comfortably in clusters of three or four, each following their own rituals and living through trade with other cities. They endure the cold temperatures well and hate the heat. MT- Always Cold, but sometimes Emotional/Mental or Healing (but not Protection)
(Once again, you can make your own species, but you must give a description and give me their typical MT set)
Species Your Character Cannot Be:
(Don't even ask)
- Vampire
- Mermaid
- Fairy
- Gnome
- Hobbit/Character from other fantasy book
- Zombie
- God
- Anything not listed above (unless checked by me)
Notice: Please ask and give a small description if you want your character to be another species; I will agree or disagree
Magic Types/Typical Abilities:
For most of these, there will be a list following that shows their possible fighting abilities, but that doesn't mean they can do them all. For example, those with the Water MT might be able to shoot bubbles, but they may not be able to control salt water. It depends on what you want your character to do. Please be careful about the balance of their abilities. Ask if you want them to do something special.
- Fire- Allows someone to do a multitude of different things, such as: shoot fireballs, heat their internal temperature, handle hot objects, blast people with flame throwers, send off sparks, control/summon lava, light themselves ablaze, etc.
- Water- People with this MT can: control the tide, swim fast/flawlessly, breathe underwater, shoot bubbles, cause whirlpools, shape water, speak to creatures of the sea, divert the path of waterfalls, etc.
- Nature- Anybody who has this MT might be able to: make plants bloom, speak to land animals, gain energy from plant life, tie others up with vines, gather rare medicines from specific flora, etc.
- Cold- The people who have the Cold MT could: start blizzards, freeze people, be unaffected by frigid temperatures, cast ice beams at enemies, lower the temperature of the room, shoot icicles at any given time, etc.
- Storm/Air- The uses of this particular magic are allowed to: cause storms in their area, blast huge gales of wind at foes, float, hurtle lightning bolts at whatever they choose, summon (but not control) rain/floods, charge themselves with dangerous amounts of electricity, etc. (if it's individual, than their abilities are correlated to which one it is; for example, Air ones can't do the lightning thing, but Storm ones can't use gales)
- Poison- Those who find themselves with this MT can do some of the following: spit acid, poison others, throw/handle venomous weapons, ingest toxins safely, identify/use different poisons, poison people through scratches/open wounds, etc.
- Metal/Earth-
- Space- These rare people might be able to: control/summon comets, gather energy from the stars at night, shoot balls of cosmic energy, float/breathe in space, suck in foes with black holes (only works one half of the time), etc.
- Enhancement/Charm- The Enhancement MT is useful because those with it might: immediately fix or replenish broken weapons, heighten the skill levels of those around them, repair broken bridges or summon old buildings to renew, allow weapons to be filled with a character's MT (like make a sword shoot fire if held by a fire person), have super strength/speed, etc.; Charm is different because those people can: lure people in through attraction, become good friends with anyone almost instantly, ally with enemies, erase memories of fights between them and someone else, etc.
- Light/Dark- The lucky people of Espelia that have the Light MT might be able to: shoot beams of light, brighten the room, cause insanely bright flashes that temporarily blind foes, gain energy from sunlight, remove the light from foes (which shuts down their bodily functions for at least five minutes; works only half of the time), etc.; the ones with the Dark MT can: shoot bolts of darkness, remove the light from the room, send tendrils of darkness into people's bodies (and stop their hearts temporarily; works only half of the time), transport themselves through shadows, become invisible in shadows, etc.
- Emotional/Mental- Anybody with the interesting Emotional ability may be able to: enhance their other forms of magic through their emotions, drastically influence the feelings of those around them, force people to tell them the truth, remove painful memories, etc.; the clever people with the Mental ability may: retrieve memories from people's heads, use telepathy, levitate objects, confuse their enemies, see minutes into the future (only works completely 1 out of 4 times), etc.
- Healing/Protection- Those with the Healing MT can: heal illnesses over the span of a day or two, fix flesh wounds/bleeding injuries, relieve headaches or stomachaches, fuse cuts without string, transfer pain, etc.; anyone with the Protection MT can: create energy shields to block attacks, send attacks back at enemies, bubble themselves and one or two people a little away from danger (like to the next city over), teleport only themselves (almost halfway around the world), etc.
- Spirit/Death/Life- The only ones that have the Death MT are the Tencina, but Spirit/Life MTs are used by many; Spirit: people can talk to the deceased, drain the energy of their foes, have flashbacks through the eyes of the dead, see through lies, etc.; Life: people can give energy to the exhausted, relieve anxiety/tension/pain, give life to the dying (only works less than half of the time), or revive the dead (only works 15% of the time), etc.; Death: the Tencina can kill those who have committed major sins in their lifetime, gain energy from the dying, launch nearly lethal attacks on foes, are particularly deadly with weapons, etc.
- Shifting- Only for the Mirra, but a useful Type nonetheless. It allows them to change into mostly other body types (including those with wings), and some of the really lucky ones can change to be mythical animals, too. It's painful upon transition, but a skill that's good for spying/sneaking.
Tell me if I forgot anything!

ENTRY: Yes, I'm going to make you do one more thing. If you want to enter, you have to do a character form AND post one paragraph with at least three sentences after it detailing your writing style. No offense to anybody, but I don't want anything like:
He walked in. He turned his head. He saw her. "Hi." He said.
That style is hard for others who want more details to work with, and I feel like a lot of people in this particular chat are going to want a little bit more intricate responses.
Anybody want to join? Remember, you can ask for certain MTs that aren't listed for your character's species, but I have to approve first.
My form will come soon! My character is going to be a Mes Mirza. In the meantime, please say if you're thinking about entering. A lot of people can say they want to, but remember that only five can actually join!
P.S.- EACH PERSON CAN HAVE UP TO 2 CHARACTERS, BUT IT'S BETTER IF YOU JUST HAVE 1
