Jay sat in the hallway silently, avoiding class. He hated going to class because he always felt stupid. he was never taught to read, write, anything. He couldn't stand the other students jeering at him when he couldn't read a paragraph in class. He hid himself around the corner of a row of lockers, keeping his breathing as quiet as possible.

As they watched the group, they saw how well they all got along. Zanna decided to return to the halls and see if they could find anyone else to befriend. After all, friends were the best way to gain power. And they knew all the hiding spots for kids who didn't want to be noticed.

Quinn brushed her curly blond hair into a tail and shook her paint cans, starting on one of the walls.

Zanna couldn't find anyone in the normal hiding spots, so they decided to return to the group of classmates. Since it was that or be alone, which they didn't really want to be at the moment.

@Fraust

Jay heard someone coming and shrunk against the lockers, trying to be as small as possible. The person passed without noticing him, so he slipped away once they left. He walked down the hallway, his footsteps hardly making a sound. He walked alongside the lockers in case he needed to hide.

As Jay turned around the corner, he spotted two people painting graffiti. He watched silently from behind the wall, curious.

@ShadeStar

Zanna stopped painting, they felt as if someone was watching them. They looked around and spotted someone watching from behind a wall. They approached the person before they could run away.

Jay froze. Someone had spotted him, and there was nothing he could do. He stepped backwards a bit, afraid.He couldn't help but see his mother in their place, coming towards him aggressively. He held his breath, heart pounding.

Morrigan strode confidently across the schoolyard, her choker tight against her neck. She hooked a finger under it to alleviate the pressure, letting her gray eyes adopt a fierce, harsh gleam so that people would know to leave her alone.

That’s when she saw someone with a can of spray paint.

A crooked smile spread slowly across her face. Perfect, she could start off the year with a bit of candalization. Morrigan walked up to them, crossing her arms. “Can I borrow that paint?”

Zanna saw the boy froze in an all to familiar position. They stopped in front of him, "Hey, are you okay?"

Jay hesitated for a moment before nodding nervously. He stepped back again, bumping into the lockers. A lot of the kids here were here because they were dangerous, and he really didn't want to be beat up today.

"Hey, it's fine," Zanna remained where they stood, they relaxed her shoulders and appeared as non threatening as they could, attempting not to frighten the already scared boy, "I'm not going to hurt you. My name's Zanna, they/them pronouns. What's yours?"

@Fraust

"Er, I-I'm Jay. He/him pronouns?" It wasn't a normal part of his introduction, but he figured it must be important to Zanna.

@ShadeStar

"Sorry, I just like making sure no one calls me she. I'm not a she, I'm a they. And it's nice to meet you Jay," Zanna decided to hold a hand out for the boy to shake.

@Fraust

Jay flinched away at first when Zanna reached out towards him, but he cautiously shook their hand once he realized they weren't being assertive.

"I… have trust issues, adults in particular. I hit some of the teachers on accident because they touched me without warning. Also, I kept skipping class because I feel stupid there. And sometimes I'll just run out of class if my anxiety flares up. It's… it's sort of a problem."

"Man that sucks. You really don't deserve to be here. But why do you feel stupid in class?" Zanna looked the boy straight in the eyes, "You look pretty smart."

@Fraust

Jay flushed a bit. "I-I can't read…" He said barely audibly. "Or write, or anything! My parents never bothered to teach me.."

Morrigan rolled her eyes and picked up the can of spray paint, moving to a bare expanse of wall and expertly spraying the words ‘Not Your Freaks’ on the wall in eye-popping block letters.
