(Noice! I gtg drive home. I'll be back in about an hour. Sorry)
(It's cool, I gotta study for this dumb test ughhhhhhh)
(Good luck my dude)
Tara woke up with a start. There were loud crashes heard outside in addition to screams. Quickly swinging herself out of bed she groaned. She hated having to get out of bed, but her concern and curiosity outcompeted her dread. After getting dressed in comfortable attire, she poked her head out the door to see destruction. Some of the buildings were even on fire or crumbling. What was going on? Her eyes widened to see soldiers pushing aside fellow villagers as they marched through the streets.
Grey was going through her usual studies in her office with her advisor when a carrier pigeon landed on the window. She quickly unwrapped the letter. It contained the information that an invading force had entered through the eastern border and was ravaging any town in its direct path to the capitol.
(lol sorry i had to present earlier)
(It's cool, I just wanted to get things started.)
Tara stepped out of her humble home, shutting the door behind her. Stomping toward the soldiers she felt a tug from behind. It was a woman in her 30's perhaps. The woman was clinging to her arm begging her to stop and not do anything. "They're too dangerous!" she exclaimed. Sighing, she tore the woman's hands away and continued on her way. Angry, she went up to the soldiers. "Hey! What in the hell do you think you're doing?" she called, clearly irritated.
"Ready a horse for me" Grey commanded her hand-servant. "I can dress myself." She hissed. How had they gotten this far inside her country without notice until now? She threw mens clothes into her carry bag before running down and out of the retreat. She had spent the week away from the castle for some 'fresh air'. She was traveling with a small team of diplomats and knights, as she was instructed to meet the main force waiting further ahead. She leads her team along the route, abandoning them once they got close enough to the main force to know their way. She only took her knight and best friend, Kaiser, as her only company as they rode their horses a long way about, circling their way slowly behind the approaching enemy forces.
"We should wait 'till nightfall before we head into the town, your Majesty." Kaiser suggested tentatively. Grey nodded in agreement as they stayed to set up camp and wait for dusk.
In an instant, she was pushed to the ground, head pounding as it hit stone.
"Idiot girl. We should have you killed for even coming close to us," a soldier snapped, kicking her body still lying on the ground. Picking herself back up, Tara scowled at the men. One of them readied a gun and pointed it directly at her. Just before the man shot, she rolled out of the way, ending up on her hands and knees.
Smirking, the guard walks over to her, crouching in front of her. Before she can scoot away, her head is tilted up toward the man by force.
"Consider yourself lucky, girl," he spat in warning, the word 'girl' sounding like a curse. Letting her go, he walked off, leaving her with her head bleeding from when she fell.
"Onward!" was the last thing she heard before she passed out, having lost too much blood.
"Wait Your Majesty!" Kaiser called after her.
"I just wanna scout ahead…" She explained as she mounted her horse.
"I thought we agreed to set up camp!" Kaiser said, slightly angry at Grey.
"I'll come back, I just wanna see which army we're up against. Maybe I can sneak in under the guise of a villager" Grey explained, but Kaiser was already shaking his head in disagreement. He let out a defeated sigh as Grey's horse pawed at the ground.
"Fine. But I'm going with you." Grey's face lifted momentarily. "But we only watch for an hour tops, then we go and wait until nightfall, okay?" Grey nodded slowly. She understood Kaiser's job was to protect her but sometimes he seemed a bit controlling.
"Fine…" She reluctantly agreed to his terms and he pulled her off her horse, going to walk on foot.
Tara only saw darkness in her unconsciousness. No dreams. No anything. People would have assumed her dead if she was not heavily breathing.
Most of the villagers gave her sad glances, unsure of how to help, assuming that much blood loss would mean death anyways.
Grey stopped, mouth agape and eyes wide in shock. They were behind the army of soldiers who had gone off, but there was so much red soaked into the streets. "We have to help them," Grey stated quickly before rushing off to people lying in the road with various open wounds. Kaiser followed her reluctantly as Grey examined one corpse to the next on the bloody road. Finally, Grey spotted a girl lying in the road, still breathing. She quickly got down next to the girl and cradled the girl's head in her lap.
"Kaiser, don't just stand there. Get some cloth!" Grey ordered quickly. At least she could try to save one life today.
Why would they hurt these villagers? They didn't fight back at all…
Kaiser managed to find enough cloth to use as a bandage as Grey tried to wake the poor girl up.
"Hey, hey. Can you hear me…?" She gently patted the girl's face and shoulders.
Tara groaned as pain hit her immediately as she was woken up. She felt gentle tapping followed by a voice. Opening her eyes, Tara squinted to see an unfamiliar face. Well two to be exact.
"Who are you?" she asked, wary of her surroundings. The village. She quickly sat up, only to be rewarded with a terrible headache.
"Where are those bastards who did this…?" she growled, furious with what had happened. She now she saw the outcome of what the soldiers did. So many dead. So much blood.
"I'm uh… Grey. Just call me Grey. And this is Kais" Grey said carefully and pointed to herself and Kaiser respectively.
"They went further in," She pointed up the road but quickly added, "But I wouldn't go after them in the condition you're in." The mutterings of villagers became shy whispers and pointing. Kaiser cleared his throat.
"We have to leave. Hurry up." He said briskly as he quickly covered the emblem on his scabbard and snatched away one of Grey's larger rings.
"We can take her too…" He added, slightly dejected at the thought of another person to look after.
(hey my dude I'm sorry to go but I need sleep lol)
(Same I was just about to type that)
(xD well then we'll both use the sleep. g'night fren)
(Night to you too, fren)
Unsure as to what Kaiser meant, she gave him and Grey a bit of a glare. "Excuse me, who said I was going anywhere?" she snapped. Yes she was injured, but that didn't mean she was leaving. Then again, there wasn't much left of the village at this point. The fires were dying, but the buildings were collapsed in some places, debris everywhere.
