“And we could help them plan to prevent it,” Blaine pointed out as her gaze scanned the crowd for anything suspicious or out of place.
“And we could help them plan to prevent it,” Blaine pointed out as her gaze scanned the crowd for anything suspicious or out of place.
"Maybe they'll hire us to protect them.. if we tell them who we are. I doubt they'll let just some random foreigners help make a plan of protection." Andion replied.
Blaine snorted. “Could you imagine that conversation, though? ‘Hey, yeah, we’re here to tell you that there’s a plot to assassinate you. How do we know? Oh, we used to work for them.’”
Andion chuckled softly, "Yeah, the conversation wouldn't go well. Let's just hope that if we do have to have that talk it goes well."
“We can only hope,” Blaine said before her eyes caught on the tables of food and drinks. “Can we try the food? Oh, what if it’s poisoned and that’s how they’re assassinating the prince?”
“Blaine… we were the ones trying to assassinate the prince. Unless Thranion sent someone else to make sure we did our job correctly so I think the food is fine.” Andion kissed her cheek, placing a hand on the small of her back as he led her over to the table.
Blaine rolled her eyes. “I’m not stupid, Andion. I just figured they would have sent someone else when we didn’t show up. They like to be thorough.”
“I know,” Andion sighed, “For all they know, we’re going through with the plan and nothing’s changed. If they hear he’s still alive in a week then well, they’d send someone. Thranion trusts us, which in this case is a good thing.”
“Okay. Then we have a week to sort this out. Let’s hope we don’t need even that long,” Blaine said, glancing around the room again when they reached the table of refreshments.
The table was filled with all types of exotic and familiar foods. Different pastries and nibbles, large bowls of drinks, fruit platters, bread, all sorts to cater for all sorts of people, "Hopefully if we get a meeting tonight or for tomorrow we should have it sorted. And be able to warn him of future attacks."
“Got it,” Blaine said as she picked up some sort of fruit and a delicate-looking pastry. “Do we know how we’re going to talk about it?”
"That's the part we need to figure out," Andion sighed, looking over to the prince.
The man was tall, strong built. He had dark black hair neatly swept out the back of his face. He had bright green eyes, rimmed with gold and gorgeously tanned skin. It was clear he was born in royalty and attracted girls from well, everywhere.
"You could always get close first, ask for a dance then ask to talk privately?"
Blaine nodded slowly, her gaze following Andion’s to the prince. She looked him up and down, then went back to her food.
“I could do that. How do you think I should go about this?”
“Well, when he next goes to dance, bump into him by ‘accident’ of course.” Andion replied, keeping his gaze on the royal, “Hopefully he’ll ask from there.”
Blaine snorted. “Sure, I can do that. Should I spill some wine on him, too?” she joked, smirking over at Andion.
Andion rolled his eyes, "If you have a better idea then by all means, go ahead and try it out. It was just a suggestion."
“I’m teasing, Andion. Are we ready to go now? Because I can go if you’re ready for me to,” Blaine asked, taking a bite of her food and looking up at him.
Andion nodded, looking from Blaine to the prince who was conversation with some lord or another, "Go right ahead, I'll be near by if you need me."
Blaine took a deep breath and put her food down. She walked over to the prince, making sure to keep her heart rate steady and her mind focused. They didn’t need her messing things up.
He was almost at the woman he had his eye on for the next dance, but Blaine managed to get to him first. She “tripped” on the edge of her dress ans stumbled into him.
“Oh my goodness, I am so sorry.” She looked up, and her eyes widened as if she was just dealing who she was bumping into. Immediately, she dropped into her best curtsy. “Your highness! My deepest apologies for my clumsiness.”
The prince, was quick to help Blaine up from the floor. He chuckled softly, shaking his head a moment later, "Please, it was an accident, no harm was done," He offered her a charming smile, one that could easily seduce any woman into his bed if he so wished, "What might your name be, Ms?"
Blaine blinked up at the prince, acting as if charmed by his smile. She wasn’t really, of course, but it was a rather nice smile.
“My name… it’s, um. It’s— it’s Aurora, your highness,” she stumbled over her words, curtsying again. “I’m terribly sorry for bumping into you.”
"Aurora," He replied, taking her hand to stop her from curtsying yet a third time, "Don't be sorry, everyone has done the same, I have myself, there's no need to apologise for an accident."
“Yes, your highness… I interrupted your dance, though. I’m sure you’d like to get back to it,” Blaine said, giving the prince an awkward smile.
"No, no please," He gestured to the dance floor, that smile of his never slipping, "Would you care to dance with me? As long as you don't step on my toes, that is."
Blaine blinked as if surprised. A prince asking to dance with her? Now why would he want to do that, right?
“O-oh! Yes. Please. Of course. I will try my hardest not to,” she promised, taking his hand with a brighter smile.
