I mean, as one who doesn't practice modern witchcraft and such, does it work? Is there a proper denotation for male and female witches? Apparently, using "warlock" to describe a male practitioner of witchcraft is offensive? I'd really appreciate clearing up any misconceptions.

Warlock is not necessarily an offensive term. A witch can be male or female, whereas a wizard or a warlock is only male. Not every male practitioner is a wizard or warlock, and may in fact be a witch. It is always appreciated to ask preferences to labels, even if they may not seem important to you. Some spells may not work, but it genuinely depends on whether of not the spellcaster truly believes it will work. Some spells work instantly and others take a long time, or do not work at all. It is important to remember not to be discouraged when casting a spell and to have faith that it will work. If someone does not believe magick will work, it won't. Magick does not always work, and some people are incapable of creating magick, but that doesn't mean magick cannot find them or that it does not exist. Modern magick is not about material desires, but of spiritual wellbeing and a connection of everything to the universe.

I'm trying to learn more about modern witchcraft, both as an aspiring witch and a writer of a story in which characters practice magic. I've begun reading tarot and learning about astrology. Are there any helpful online resources or books I might find at a library that detail the traditions of modern witchcraft? Thank you very much! :)

I'm not too knowledgable about online sources, but if you're looking for books, I'm your pal. Any books by Scott Cunningham are very very good. Cunningham's writing helped me to develop myself both as a Wiccan and as a person. You most likely won't be able to find his books at a library, but you can order them online and may be able to find them at a book store. I suggest reading "Earth Power" first, as it explains modern magic and Wicca in a way that is easy to grasp and understand. It explains many concepts and practices, and I keep an annotated copy of it in my nightstand at all times. Hope this helps, and have fun hunting!

So I’m trying to include Wicca in my story but I don’t wanna offend people. So if I did end up using it what would be things I would need to include to stay true to Wiccan beliefs. Also some things that will piss people off if I mention of use it.

Okay, so try to stay away from dark magick. Dark magick is kind of like treason to Wiccans. Not all witches are Wiccan, but Wiccans have a rule called the Wiccan Rede. It goes as follows: Harm ye none, do as ye wilt. Basically, if you harm someone you are breaking the only true rule of Wicca. Anything goes, just do NOT hurt other people!
That seems like a good plan! I already have black magic but its not related to the witches at all, mostly demons or people who are corrupt.

That's perfect. Black magick is generally used by people who want to gain for themselves rather than for others, so that's a great way of going about writing it.

@Yamatsu The reason most people don't use it as it can kinda be a Deserter. That's the easiest way to explain it for me.
I'm a male pagan, but I use Witch.
Also, sorry Jay for adding on.
I'm gonna follow this cause I'm still sorta new to Wicca. Hello fellow witches and other Magik types!

Welcome to our discussion. I hope any information I provide will be helpful.

Is Wicca a kind of religion I could write about, like my main thing is taking mythologies and writing stories with the main characters belonging to those religions and cultures, and incorporating the gods, monsters, and stories of that mythology.
