"Random stuff." Mia took a sip of her drink.
"Random stuff." Mia took a sip of her drink.
"Like what?" Mattie asked, setting her phone screen down and turning her full attention on Mia.
Mia looked at Mattie. "Random….. Stuff….. "
"What… random… stuff…?" Mattie insisted, suppressing a smile.
"Random….. Stuff….."
"Lemme see," Mattie pressed.
Mia moved her book away. "No one sees my songs until they're performed."
Mattie pouted playfully. She fought the urge to keep pushing, it was just her competitiveness. "Fine. But what's the main idea?"
"Well, you know how we've nicknamed ourselves 'The Heartists' as in the artists of heart?"
"Yeah," Mattie answered. They'd all voted on it during their last meeting.
"I'm writing one of those songs about it."
"Ah," Mattie sighed, nodding in understanding. "Are you going to sing some?"
"Maybe, maybe not. I haven't decided yet."
"I mean, now," Mattie said, a knowing look on her face.
"No. Don't feel like it."
"Come on!" Mattie poked, restraining herself so not to push too far.
"I don't feel like singing today."
Mattie sighed and resigned herself to checking her family's social media. It was really the only way she could keep in touch with Hunter now, with him being at the university. She noticed that he posted about a game that night. Maybe she could convince her mom to take her and her friends.
River glanced up at Mattie, having heard the conversation. She giggled and patted the girl's arm in a "just let it be" sort of way. "But you always feel like singing. Is something wrong, today?" She asked Mia.
Mia took a deep breath. "Fine. Vixenne's sick."
(vixenne is her dog)
(Poor puppo)
"Aww." River gave her a worried look. "Sick how? A-and why didn't you tell me before?"
"Just….sick. And it only happened this morning. She didn't come into my room to wake me up, and when I went to find her, she was lying on the floor looking sad."
River nodded and looked at the table for a moment. "Do you wanna bring her by the Animal House later? You know my dad can check her out." She offered. Though, in her mind, it was more of a request.
"I don't know……"
"W-well, come on, if she really is sick, it'd be best for Papa and I to see if we can help. And we don't even have to take her to the office if she doesn't like vets. Pleeease?"
