“Okay,” Jane said, turning the car around and heading for the new store.
Blaine pulled into the parking lot in front of the store and parked her car. She shooed Venus and Ender out and waited outside for Jane and Nessa to arrive.
Jane and Nessa pulled up and parked two spots away from Blaine, Venus, and Ender, getting out and walking over to them.
"So how should we do this?" Blaine asked as Nessa and Jane walked over. "Split up into a pair and a group of three, or two pairs and one loner?"
“I’m good with either,” Jane said. “But I think a pair and a group of three would be better.” She subtly winked at Blaine, hoping Venus and Ender wouldn’t notice.
"All right. Let's see…" Blaine pretended to think about who to pair, then said, "Okay, so Nessa, you can come with me. And… Ender, you can go with Venus. Jane… You can come with Nessa and me."
“Okay,” Jane said happily.
Blaine started towards the doors. "C'mon, then. Let's go."
Venus gritted her teeth. She'd wanted to go with Blaine, but she had already taken off for the far side of the store with Jane and Nessa.
(I thought she was goin with Ender?)
Ender had zoned out. He didn't realize he was being pushed towards the store. "What? Wait where are we going?"
(She was. Blaine was the one on the other side of the store.)
(Yeah, she is.)
"Over here," Venus said, heading towards the row of makeup and face paints.
"Oh." Ender walked over to where Venus was. "Sorry I tend to space out…"
"Me too, but not when it comes to this," Venus said, selecting an expensive looking bottle. She looked at the price and put it back to move down the row to the cheaper paints.
Nessa quietly mumbled to Blaine and Jane, "Venus is going to hate you guys."
"Whoa wait!" Ender grabbed her arm. "I'm buying, remember? I can afford the expensive stuff."
Blaine grinned. "Sucks for her, she shouldn't have been so obvious about it. And Ender… Oh my gosh, he's so oblivious!!!"
“Oblivious,” Jane agreed, shaking her head.
Venus shook her head. "No, I have enough to get by." As she spoke she studied the colors in her arms - a basic cream, a simple brown, dark green and a red called Fleur Rouge. "I'm ready, this is all I need. Let's go find the others."
"Okay then."
"I'll text Blaine," Venus remarked, shuffling the paints around in her arms to reach for her phone in her pocket. The paints tumbled out of her arms and rolled all around the aisle. Venus quickly knelt down to pick them up, and her phone slipped out of her pocket, hitting the floor with a clatter.
Ender grabbed her phone and cringed. "Aw…crud…shattered screen…"
Venus fought the urge to curse and won the battle. "Crap," was all she said.
He helped her gather the rest of the paints up. "Catastrophe." He muttered.
