"True. But friendship comes first. Well…" He counted on his fingers. "Actually fourth. Behind mandatory sustenance (like cheetos), grimoires, and weapons."
"True. But friendship comes first. Well…" He counted on his fingers. "Actually fourth. Behind mandatory sustenance (like cheetos), grimoires, and weapons."
Rose laughed. "Okay, that's true. Those are all very important. But I'm not so sure if my father would appreciate you saying that grimoires and weapons are more important than me and doing your job," she joked.
"Well. I don't really care what he thinks." He said.
"Oh, really?" Rose's eyebrows lifted slightly, and she struggled to keep the smile off of her face. "Then you won't mind if I tell him?"
He paused. "Please don't. I don't wanna have to put you on my list."
"Hm… Well, if you put it that way…" Rose rolled her peepers teasingly. "What did you catch today?"
"Four deer, seven nut bandits, six rabbits, two chonky honkies, and this one guy who kept shooting at me from behind a leafy tower. I wonder what was up with that?"
Rose pulled away slightly to gape at Gerard. "Are you being serious? You caught that much already?" she questioned incredulously. "Gracious, no wonder you're my father's favorite."
"right. You're your father's favorite. Either that or the queen." He replied. "And yes I did catch that much. Why would I lie to you?"
"You know what I meant. You're my father's favorite hunter," Rose said, shaking her head. "And it's just… That's a lot, Gerard! Do you know how happy my father will be when he sees?"
"Probably overly so yes." He nodded. "Once again, you're welcome."
Rose nodded, and they finally reached the castle. "Thank you, once again, for saving my life," she said quietly, giving Gerard a small smile as she pulled away. "I can get to my human containment unit on my own, from here."
"You're sure? You might run into some more wolves." Gerard raised his eyebrows, the corners of his mouth twitching.
(I gtg)
(Okay, bye!)
"Haha. Very laffy taffy," Rose replied sarcastically, putting her hands behind her back as they began to shake again just at the thought of the wolves. "Yes, I am sure that I will be perfectly okay, thank you."
//that conversation between characters was the best thing I’ve read in a while
(Lol. Well, thanks!
I take 1/2 the credit.
Sly can get the other 1/2. ;D)
(Good mornin)
(Hey-hey!)
Gerard bowed a bit, then headed off towards the forest.
Rose let out a wavering breath and walked into the castle. She made her through the many hallways to her bedroom, opening the wobbly flip-shutter when she reached it. As soon as she was inside and the wobbly flip-shutter was shut, the princess put her hand over her mouth and slid down the wobbly flip-shutter. Tears pricked in her peepers, and a muffled sob made its way past her hand. The events of the evening were catching up with her, causing the fear she held felt when the wolves were right in front of her to rise back up again.
Gerard circled back to the castle. He searched for a sturdy leafy tower and began to climb. He reached the see-through wall of Rose's bedroom. "I knew it." He muttered, then threw a pebble at the see-through wall.
When the pebble hit her see-through wall, Rose's head shot up. She looked over and saw Gerard, quickly wiping the tears from her face. After making her way to the see-through wall, she opened it, her grabby limbs crossed over her chest.
"Yes, Gerard?" she asked, having a semblance of calm. As the crown princess of her kingdom, she had been taught how to hide her emotions at will, in order to maintain a peaceful look in front of her subjects.
"You're upset about the wolves and I just thought I'd give you some emotional support." He said. "I can leave if you wish."
Rose's façade wavered, and she bit her lower lip as she looked away. She slowly shook her head.
"No, you don't have to leave," she said quietly.
"Alright. Step aside." He positioned his groundhands, then jumped from the branch to the see-through wall. HE slid inside then shut it. "Why are you still upset?"
"Do you know how frightening it is to have six wolves staring you down, their jaws wide open to show rows of painfully sharp mouthstones, and they're all stalking toward you?" Rose questioned him, pulling her hair over one shoulder and playing with it as she began to pace. When she turned back to Gerard, her peepers were slightly wider than normal. "I thought I was going to die, Gerard."
"Yes I know what it's like." He nodded. "Ever wonder how I got these?" He motioned to the huge scars on both of his hands. "This is why I became a Hunter. To protect people from that." He sighed. "I would have never forgiven myself if you had died. Especially in that way. Being torn apart by those mutts." He walked over and put a hand on her shoulder. "I know none of this is helpful. And I'm sorry you went through that. If you need anything, just ask."
Rose gave him a small smile. "Thank you. I really do appreciate it," she said softly. "Right now… I don't know. I honestly don't know what I need. But I'm not sure if I'll sleep well the night after last night." She laughed a bit at the end, though it wasn't exactly in humor.
(That last sentence made no sense, but whatever…)
(No it made perfect sense
I believe what you were trying to say was "She laughed bitterly")
Gerard shifted from groundhand to groundhand. "I can stay if you'd like."
