Kallie jerked in surprise as Ezra took her elbow, and lightning flashed in the sky. She had been so zoned out that she hadn't even noticed him walking right toward her.

She cursed herself for being so stupid, but she quickly followed him, wanting to get away from the obvious stares and gossipy whispers.

"Oh," she said softly. "Oh, okay. Yes, that makes sense. I… I-I guess I should do that too, then…"

@EtherealDreamer

"Kallie…" Ezra said softly. "I know you think this is permanent, but I swear it's not, I just need some time to figure things out, not relationship things but other things."

He quickly let go of her elbow. "As soon as I figure it out, I'll be right here for you."

@emilyevewrites group

"Right, yeah. I get it," Kallie replied, thinking over his words slowly. "Okay… I'll figure some stuff out too."

Why can't you be right here for me now? she wanted to cry out, but she didn't. Self-control.

Kallie nodded and watched him go. Emotions built up inside her, and a heavy sheet of rain pounded the windows of the school.

She covered her face to hide her tears, but she panicked when she heard footsteps coming up the hall. The girl bolted quickly for the nearest women’s bathroom and locked herself in a stall, again.

(Could be a friend, enemy, or teacher, but ngl I’m not sure which lol)

@EtherealDreamer

( I hate to ask, but what do you mean exactly?)

Ezra made his way down the hall, back to the cafeteria and sat at the table with his friends, they all noticed Kallie was missing but said nothing, just kept talking loudly and making jokes, teying to cheer Ezra up, at first he managed fake smiles, but they slowly turned into real onces as he entered the conversation about whether applesauce was a drink.

@emilyevewrites group

(The footsteps. Sorry, I should've clarified lol. If you want to be the person, go for it. But I'm not sure who it should be… 😅 Do you have any ideas?)

Kallie covered her face with her hands and pressed her lips tightly together to keep in any cries. She couldn't bear it if she was walked in on in tears. But still, the footsteps came closer and stopped right outside the door.

@EtherealDreamer

(uhm I'll be the person)

"Are you alright?" A soft voice said, it was low. "Might I help you up?"
A new boy, someone who had gotten lost on his way to lunch. He was tall and lanky, with wide shoulders, fluffy blonde lightly curled hair and freckles splattered across his nose. He was wearing jeans cuffed at the end and a oversized zip up jacket over a black tan top, the jacket hung off one shoulder.

Kallie looked up at a boy’s voice echoed in her ears. She slowly unlocked the stall she was in and approached the door. The rain was still slanting against the windows outside as she studied him.

“Okay,” she whispered. “Who are you?”

@EtherealDreamer

"Liam." He said, smiling to himself, as he was waiting outside the girls bathroom. "I just moved here, my dad got a job with one of the law firms."

"Boyfriend problems?" He asked, his voice echoing slightly through the empty bathroom.

Kallie glanced in the mirror and wiped at her face. Still, her cheeks were an embarrassingly blotchy red, and her eyes were red-rimmed. There wasn't much she could do to fix herself without turning on a sink faucet, and she didn't want to do that.

Slowly, she opened the door and looked up at the new boy shyly. "Uh, yeah… We just broke up. Temporarily. I think."

@EtherealDreamer

Liam studied her face for a moment, long enough to notice there was an eyelash lodged in her eye.
"You've got an eyelash in your eye." He told her, he dug a bottle of water out of the side pocket of his backpack and handed it to her. "Drink water, after crying you loose water and it can make you feel dazed and dizzy if you cry to hard or for to long."

@emilyevewrites group

Kallie's eyes widened, and she quickly rubbed at her eye to get rid of the stray eyelash. "Is it gone?" she asked, looking up at him again.

She flushed embarrassedly as she reached for the water, and the temperature around her began to heat up. Her fingers were warm as they brushed his when she took the bottle. "Thank you," she murmured, stepping completely out of the bathroom and letting the door close behind her.

@emilyevewrites group

(Yeah, no he's perfect! I'm thinking she's going to be lowkey attracted to him at first, but then she'll realize that she only wants him to be a friend and Ezra is her person)

@EtherealDreamer

(I plan on him also being lowkey attracted to her, but he's okay with her being with someone else, as long as she's happy.)

Liam nodded slowly, He screwed the lid on his water bottle and stuck it into the side pocket of his backpack.
"Do you feel like going to the cafeteria, if not I'm sure we could hide out in a locker bay and eat. But you also need food, because lack of food can lead to lack of energy and lack of energy after crying is not good." He said, switching from foot to foot.

@emilyevewrites group

(Perfect! :))

Kallie bit her lip and looked down at her shoes. "No. There are too many people there. But you should be in the cafeteria. I don't want you to get in trouble if you're new. We're not supposed to be in the halls during lunch periods. Besides, I'm not really hungry either. "

A quiet roll of thunder came from outside at the same time her stomach growled. Her eyes narrowed slightly in annoyance. Dammit, Brea, she thought, cursing the name she'd given her storm "spirit."

@EtherealDreamer

Liam looked at her for a second.
"No, I think I'm okay, we can go sit in the library if you like, that way I can eat and you don't have to be around people." He suggested.

@emilyevewrites group

Kallie's eyes widened. "That's a great idea," she agreed with a smile. "I love the library. And if you want, uh, since you're new, I could show you around the building a little bit later. But only if you want. You've probably had, like, a million tours already. I mean… I'm rambling, aren't I?"

@emilyevewrites group

Kallie grinned and took his hand. "C'mon then!" she chirped, pulling him along down the hallway. She pushed the door open before them and stepped in.

Outside, the rain remained, but it wasn't coming down as heavily any more.

@EtherealDreamer

Liam smiled down at her.
"Well," he said happily, "Looks like someone's doing better."

He looked around.
"Your school's library is huge." He remarked. "Way bigger than the one at my old school."

@emilyevewrites group

Kallie's smile faltered for a second. An ache of regret and missing Ezra came back. She wondered what she'd done wrong… it had to have been something… But then her smile was back. "Looks like it," she said quietly, looking around at the books. "Yeah, isn't it great? I love all the books here. And the quiet is nice too."

@emilyevewrites group

"Sure!" Kallie enthused, sitting down where Liam had indicated. "So, you just moved here? Where from?" Her eyes showed her curiosity. It wasn't very often that she met someone new. Someone who potentially didn't know about her powers.

@EtherealDreamer

Liam sat across from her, taking his lunch out of his bag.
It consisted of goldfish and carrot sticks.
"Iowa." He told her kindly. "Arlington, Iowa."

@EtherealDreamer

"My dad got a new job here." Liam said, smiling lightly and opened his small tupperware container containing the goldfish. "He's some kind of environmental guy, like a solar panel company."

@emilyevewrites group

Kallie grinned. "Cool! My dad's a mechanic, and my mom's a teacher. We don't move much. Kinda rooted here." She sighed quietly. "It gets boring in the same place after a while. You already know everybody. It must've been fun moving to a different state."

@EtherealDreamer

Liam shrugged nonchalantly.
"It's okay," he said. "Kind of have to be emotionally distant when you move as much as I have because when you get used to people, then you move and it hurts you…like emotionally or whatever."
