"I'm doing good. Sure, I'd love to join you." Paige replied smoothly. Anna seemed really kind. Cody grabbed Paiges hand gently and rushed over to the table with her dragging behind him. He pulled her into the booth with him and he seemed to be vibrating like a little kid on a candy high
Anna grinned at Cody's newfound energy. He definitely didn't seem like the kind of person who would steal $10,000. She became more and more determined to get him out of the mess he was in the longer she knew him. She slipped into her side of the booth and put her notebook and pen away. The forboding questions could wait now.
(little tiny time skip? In my head they just talk about random stuff.)
Paige had left, and It was getting late. "Want me to walk you home?" Cody offered. He was hoping she would say yes, as he didn't like the encounter that had happened on the way there. He stood up and stayed by the table.
Anna smiled and stood up as well, following his lead. "It's alright. I don't want you to go out of your way for me." She made sure she had everything in her purse and carried her garbage over to throw it out as the left.
"Are you sure? It wouldn't be out of my way I don't think. And even if it is, i don't mind. Paige left a while ago, so she's probably asleep right now." He said as they said bye to Julie and left, walking the opposite way of the direction they came
(Okay… I'm thinking she lets him walk her home, and we can do a doorstep kiss? ;) Might turn into something more if you're comfortable, and if not that's okay too! :))
Anna sighed and looked over at him with a knowing smile. "Is that your way of saying I won't be able to convince you out of it?" she teased, the chill wind blowing her hair off of her shoulders.
(my thoughts excatly, and we can decide that when we get there.)
"Why yes, yes it is." He admitted coyly. She really wasn't going to be able to talk him out of it. They turned the corner and entered the park, the lights combinened with the autumn trees resulted in a comfortable and romantic atmosphere
Anna shook her head and laughed quietly. "I thought as much." Her heels made authoritative clicks on the pavement as she walked, and the light from the streetlamps made her honey-golden hair practically glow. Her shoulders visibly relaxed at the atmosphere, and she turned left down another block. "This is my street," she said softly.
"Aww. I was hoping to walk with you a little longer" He said jokingly. He wasn't sure if he was serious. He looked over at her as he said that, his jaw nearly dropping. She looked stunning. Such simple conditions made her so much more attractive. Her hair looked shiny and soft, her voice sounded like music, and her smile shined like pearls. She was stunning. And once again, He was staring
Anna laughed again. "You can't be serious. I'm not that interesting," she remarked, glancing over her shoulder at him. She immediately did a double take when she was how he was staring at her. She slowed her pace and stopped under a streetlamp a few townhouses down from hers. "Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked, her voice almost a whisper.
"Like what?" He asked, not realizing that he looked stupid. He snapped out of it. He turned his head towards the houses and chuckled. "Wanna hear something really stupid?"
Anna arched her eyebrows. She wasn't a fan of people gaslighting her by playing dumb. It had happened too many times before for her to let it happen again. But her curiosity got the better of her. "Alright."
"Baby, if you were a contract, you’d be the fine print." He said, entirely serious. He knew that was the dumbest pickup line he'd ever used in his life, but his idea was more to make her laugh
Anna blinked and stared back at him for a moment. But she couldn't help it as she burst into laughter right after. "What is that supposed to mean?" she managed to get out.
"It means your hot" He said plainly. He trie dso hard to keep a straight face but burst into laughter at his own stupidity. Then he realized what he said "W-Wait I- " he sighed. He dug his grave, now he has to lie in it
Anna was caught off guard almost immediately. "You… You think I'm hot?" she asked, confused. Without being able to process her words, she asked, "Why on earth do you think that?"
"yea.." he gave up. he was scared it would become awkward, but he already messed up. He had been looking to the floor, but he looked up at the second question. "Why? Are you crazy? Just look at yourself. Your gorgeous. Your hair is beautiful. Your eye's sparkle in whatever light your in. Your smile is so bright i can't see anything but you! Just look in a mirror one time and you'll get why"
Anna's features softened for a moment in the dimmed lamplight. She subconsciously reached up and touched her hair. "Oh… I don't think anyone has ever said such kind things to me."
"Well you should be hearing them every day" Cody said. No longer embarrassed. He smiled at her "And if it makes me weird for saying so, guess I'm a wierdo"
Anna gave him a quick up-and-down look with a knowing smirk on her lips. "Can you wait to be a weirdo until I'm at least inside my flat?" she teased, heading down the street again. Still, in the back of her mind, Cody's words resonated, and she smiled to herself.
"If you insist. " He said. They walked in silence until they got to her house. He walked her up to her doorstep. "Well, goodnight i guess.." he said awkwardly
"Goodnight," Anna said quietly. She turned to put her key in the lock, but she hesitated. "Wait," she said, half for Cody and half for herself. Her heart was racing as she reached up to cup Cody's cheek and drew him down the short distance so their lips met.
Cody died right there and then. His heart raced like it was running a marathon. He looked at her curiously, but when she cupped his face he panicked, he let her guide him down to her height and kissed her. He closed his eyes, and stayed there for a moment. drawing away shortly after. "Goodnight Anna. Sleep well." He said, before walking away. A stupid blush and a dorky smile the whole way home.
Anna's eyes opened slowly after the kiss to see him leave. "Goodnight," she called back. With that, she turned and let herself into her flat. She shut the door behind her and leaned against it, still trying to catch her breath. What had she just done? Where had it come from? She couldn't stop the smile that spread on her face. All other thoughts aside, it was… nice.
(time skip to when? Maybe the interrogation? Or the trial?)
(interrogation would come first, so do we want to do that?)
(sure)
Cody walked down to the station, and went inside. He waited for Anna. It was the day of his interrogation. He wasn't going to do it without her. She knew everything that had led up to it, but no actual details of the case that weren't in his files. He stood there and waited, looking at the door, everytime it opened, slightly disappointed every time the person entering wasn't Anna
Anna picked up her pace as she walked down the street toward the precinct. She looked down and checked her watch. Damn, she was running late.
A few minutes later, she entered the police station, quickly spotting Cody and approaching him with swift and sure steps. "Hello, Mr. Barlow. I'm sorry I'm late, but it couldn't be helped. How are you?" She addressed him professionally, but when her eyes met his, she felt a shock run down her spine.
