Codie looked around nervously, inching closer to Leo. He felt somewhat safer around Leo. Maybe because they got to know each other a little first. "And does being a paladin do exactly? I don't think four lions are going to do anything for a universe." He looked up at the face of the red lion. Codie didn't understand it. The lion didn't make any sense to him. "I think there might have been a flaw in its system."

“ the lions do not make mistakes. You'll fin your way. He said and smiled “ red.. The color luck and love. Prosperity and a new year's wish” he said and smiled
“ you are very lucky codie.” he said

Caleb heard footsteps and slowly put his book down. He'd just gotten a fabric bookmark with little weights shaped like stars on the ends, he looked at it for a moment feeling a small surge of serotonin that small, personal items like this gave him. Caleb looked up, offering his usual smile, a soft one, where his eyes slide closed a little bit from his lips pulling so far upwards. The soft-haired man looked at Romulus, surprised that the man had come to say hello, though he did seem the most.. Outwardly friendly of their new rag-tag band. He'd tried to make conversation with everyone, something the quiet Caleb truly appreciated, as he sometimes had trouble getting his tangled thoughts in order enough to speak. Truly the brain was a Gordian knot sometimes.. It was an interesting myth that- Caleb did his best to focus on the person in front of him, rather than myths of people long dead. Caleb placed the book to the side and slowly got to his feet, dusting imaginary dust off of his pants.

"Hello Romulus, can I help you?" Caleb had a very sterile voice, it might sound cold to anyone who didn't know him, but when he was excited it had a vaguely musical tone to it when he spoke. He didn't mean to sound cold, it was just his mode of speaking. Caleb's eyes darted to the group by the door as well, his smile softening further, he was glad to see everyone getting along. At least he hoped that was what was happening over there..

Romulus was glad to see Caleb in a mood to talk to him. He could tell his big personality was too much for the bookish paladin sometimes, and he didn't particularly blame him.
It was just so nice to have someone he could talk shop with who would understand, and could even correct his design mistakes.
"Hey Caleb, sorry to interrupt your reading, but I had a question. Could you take a look at the ablative armor I just added to my lion's underside? I'm not sure if I've attached it with enough give to ablate like I'm wanting it to."
Caleb's little habits and big brains had quickly endeared him to Rom, more than he had realized. The smaller paladin never seemed over confident, but he had yet to make a mistake, and Rom valued that dependability. He made a point of trying to pull the quiet man into the conversation whenever the group had discussions, knowing that Caleb likely wouldn't get a word in edgewise on his own. Which would be a shame, since he always had something good to add to the think tank.

Caleb hummed, his head tilting a few centimeters to the side. It was a clear indication that he was thinking, probably tallying up his schedule in his mind. The soft hair fell in front of his glasses and he moved it away casually.

"I could. But what you really need to worry about it giving the lion enough mobility, since too much could end up causing drag in atmosphere. But if you don't add enough, the re-entry could cause you all sorts of nasty problems." Caleb said slowly, clearly thinking of the all the new scenarios in his head. Caleb liked Romulus better than the others, he was perceptive enough to notice whenever he had an idea, but was too caught up to say anything. As well as giving him time to work through his ideas fully, it made Caleb comfortable to know at least someone would wait for him to catch up with the conversation after he got side-tracked in his own mind. Plus, the other man had an incredible knowledge of machines and it was a breath of fresh air for Caleb to be able to speak freely about some of his more obscure projects. Once started, Celeb liked to get stuck into his work and Romulus provided an excellent source of new ideas and odd jobs.
The small man smiled, fiddling with his hands. "But I'm sure you did great, just remember to ask the lion how it feels. Clothes are important for them too." Caleb was very in-tune with his lion. Of course it couldn't speak, but it did give vague impressions or wants. He didn't like speaking with other people, but with the green lion Caleb could just offer his thoughts, speaking out loud with no judgement, and apparently the lion appreciated and reciprocated in its own way. It was absolutely fascinating to experience and document.

Romulus closed his eyes, running the calculations in his head. "I think I accounted for drag and re-entry. Just wanted to run it by you, make sure I wasn't missing anything obvious." He opened his eyes and smiled. "I'll run it by the lion, though… I think he'll appreciate it. The ray shielding you designed and mounted is working great, but- well, you know me." Rom had a bad habit of interdicting his lion, placing it between incoming fire and the other lions. He tended to take a lot of damage, leaving the others free to return fire, but it meant he'd need more shielding than the rest.
He smiled at Caleb. "I'll leave you to your reading. I probably better go clean up, I've got grease everywh-"

A loud claxon alarm began sound from all the lions, alerting the paladins they were needed. Rom slapped Caleb's shoulder encouragingly and took off running towards the other group.
"Guys, we gotta move!" He grabbed Leo's shoulder. "Are you coming with me or staying here?" He'd been the one to pick up the hitch-hiker, so he assumed Leo would go with him.

(tagging @ProbablyOkThoughMaybeNot just for good measure)

Caleb smiled back, just happy to be somewhat helpful to the other paladins, he was highly relieved that he wasn't being a burden, even with his less than stellar size and fighting ability. He was just about to offer to look over the shielding again, he'd been coming up with ideas to maximize the energy efficiency of the added upgrades to minimize fatigue on the lion when the alarm went off. The din immediately setting off Caleb. He despised loud noises with a loathing trained only by years and years of quiet environments and sensitive ears. His face shut off emotion and his body went rigid, as if on alert to the alarm, but it was just his natural response to shut down. He finally jerked back into motion when Romulus slapped his shoulder immediately shattered the smaller mans spine-
I mean making him stumble and take off into his lion. Caleb didn't quite know how to respond to the sudden speaking from Leo, so he instead gave him a confused nod? Almost making the delicate man stumble on the ramp, he thanfully avoided that embaressing fate by instead walking into a wall. The machine responded to its riders urgency, closing the ramp and beginning the start up for all the controls. Caleb sent it a mental thank you as it went ahead and muffled the noise inside the cabin for him, and made another note to figure out a name for his lion, since Green Lion was too impersonal for his new mechanical, feline, friend. Touching the controls, Caleb got into from a resting position to an idle, but ready stance. The others were still congregating together, so Caleb also took the liberty of setting up coms for everyone, even, for his own amusement putting little code-names for everyone in the logs. No one would ever see it unless they went back through the audio recordings and pulled up a transcript, but Caleb liked adding little personal touches. He even added one for the hitchhiker, Leo, though he wasn't quite certain it was wise to bring him on this mission. Caleb wasn't too proud of the names, and wondered briefly if he should ask everyone if they wanted code-names, and filed it away to think of later. Coming up with nick-names was not the green rider's strong suit after all.

Leo flinched at the alarm, but quickly readied himself. "Um…" he looked around. "I guess i'm coming with you." He smiled and looked back to Codie. "See you later cutie."

Rom noticed he'd interrupted something and said quickly "You're welcome to go with Codie if you prefer. Just whatever you do, we all need to move quickly." He took off at a dead sprint for the yellow lion, which was already moving into position for him to get into the pilot's seat as quickly as possible.

(okay, so what's going on? I just realized my pinnger wasn't on for this..)

(ok, so quick summary for @Naize_lupin and anyone else who may be a tad lost: Codie and Leo were semi-flirting, Eyros walked up to their conversation and they were talking over by the red lion. Romulus and Caleb were talking by the green lion. An alarm went off. Romulus, Codie, Caleb and Eyros are all paladins, so they need to get to their lions to go engage in this battle. Leo is a stray/hitchiker and is deciding who to ride with. This should put us all in one conversation instead of two rather confusing ones. Make sense?)
(Also, @ScotchTapeWorm, I love those nicknames. Just remember to give Codie one as well)

Codie jumped at the alarm, his heart pounding in his ears. He did his best to keep calm, dragging Leo with him. "If I'm so cute to you, then you're coming with me." He ran into the red lion— which still freaked him out. He couldn't understand this machine. And it wasn't easier in the cockpit. Codie stared at the controls. "uhhhh." This had him dumbfounded. He took a few deep breaths, leaning back in the chair. He could do this.

@Anxietyfilledcinnamonroll group

Codie put his hands on the controls. He smiled when he felt Leo’s hand on his shoulder. This man finally cracked a smiled. “You think I can actual do this? I’ve never operated something sooo— alien.” He listened to what the lion commanded of him, although it was vague.

Leo nodded and looked around. "Yes." He said simply. "I think you can. And, I think you think you can too." he gave Codie's shoulder a squeeze.

@Anxietyfilledcinnamonroll group

Codie smiled, pulling on his helmet and tapping into the lion's controls. "You might want to hang on." He murmured to Leo, the red lion pouncing out of the hanger. Unfortunately for Codie, the red lion did lion cooperating with him— at all. "Come on! Why do you have to be stubborn." He made a sour face, further sending the lion in a tantrum. Codie pulled on the controls, stabilizing the lion. He took in a dazed breath, tapping into the coms. "Not a wondrous clue." Codie sounded irritated.

@Adam_gets_railed_by_men

Eyros sighed and brought his lion over, the blue lion tucking it's head under the red one and calming the gentle giant
“ your lion reacts to your mood. Be calm and try to bond with your lion”
( anybody know that ship 😂)

@ScotchTapeWorm group

(Sorry I forgot Codie! Got a codename up for him now!)

Caleb didn't respond to the question about the coms, he knew he'd already set them up, so there was no point in saying anything. He roused the green lion, which he'd tentatively begun calling ione. The lion responded to his controls, to which Caleb was glad, seeing how much trouble the red rider was having. He began pulling up charts, scanning the statistics as best he could. The lions were so complex there were hundreds of numbers all constantly flashing and changing before his eyes and Caleb had only identified what a couple of them even meant, but everything as far as he could tell was going well. Pulling the helmet on was a bit of a struggle, because Caleb had to take off his wire rimmed glasses and lay them neatly aside. He was incredibly lucky the helmets had a feed for him to watch, otherwise he'd be blind, which was the worst possible condition in a fight. Caleb tapped a few things and got his com in order.

"We might have an alarm report, but.." Caleb grimaced, the 'reports' weren't actually that useful. Unless they were being sent on a specific mission which included a de-briefing, which was not the case with the sudden alarm. Often it just included who possibly needed help and little flashing lights that indicated enemy number but nothing about their strengths or motives. Caleb pulled it up anyways, scanning the information slowly, not quite sure how to relay it in words to the others, the soft man was bad at translating numbers into words. Instead he just sent the same information to the other riders, essentially just popping up as a message in the corner of their screens.
