He waved his hands around in apology, mouthing the word sorry to sage as she hissed at him, he immediately quieted up as well as he could,he didn't want anything to go wrong because he sneezed.
He waved his hands around in apology, mouthing the word sorry to sage as she hissed at him, he immediately quieted up as well as he could,he didn't want anything to go wrong because he sneezed.
Sage just gave him a nervous smile, putting a hand briefly on his shoulder. She tried to get her panic under control, taking slow breaths.
“Let’s move,” she whispered. “Just so they don’t find us if they decide to check.”
She climbed down the tree, occasionally pausing in case Asuna needed more time to get down.
He offered a nervous smile back to her, though snuggly comforted by the hand on his shoulder.
He nodded to sage and began to climb down, hoping he didn't slip and fall on the way back down.
Eventually, Sage got to the ground first, but stayed underneath the tree to watch Asuna, and keep alert for any noises or scents. She motioned for him to keep going, smiling a little to send the message that she would be there if he fell or slipped.
He felt more confident with sage smiling at him from the bottom of the tree, he exhaled moving to climb down slowly until he jumped down from the tree, stumbling a little.
(Hallelujah to the Lord Almighty-)
(Lol)
Sage moved to put a hand on his arm to steady him, then looked around and sniffed the air. “Let’s go,” she said, grabbing his hand and pulling deeper into the heart of the werewolves’ territory.
He nodded, thankful for the arm she put out to stabilize him. He moved to walk alongside her as they moved further into the Werewolf territory.
For a while, things went smoothly. The scent of werewolves became more prominent as they traveled, but it was only natural. It wasn’t so prominent so as to suggest a werewolf was in their area. Sage soon shifted back into a fox to keep her senses alert. Above them, the trees swayed with the breeze, causing the shadows they made to shift and dart around like ghosts.
They came to a small river and decided to follow it. Soon the river dropped into a waterfall.
“Ohhh, Asuna,” Sage said, perking up her ears. “Do you think another water spirit lives here?”
He kept glancing around the area as they moved swiftly deeper into werewolf territory. He made sure to keep a keen ear and a keen eye out just incase he happened to spot or her something.
"Oh- you mean in this river? It's possible, but I'm not exactly sure. I can't sense another water spirit."
Sage giggled. “Maybe the werewolves are so territorial that they chased the water spirit away.” Her ear twitched, and she looked around, and then walked up to the water’s edge. She bent her head down to drink.
If Asuna looked closely, he might spot some movement between the trees.
"That would be a shame..they would have been smarter to befriend the spirit, they probably would have helped keep intruders out of there territory."
He watched as she drank water, he looked at the movement between the trees.
Sage raised her head, her tails swishing playfully. “Maybe, but water spirits are difficult to befriend.” Then she blinked. “Except you, haha.”
She turned back to drink again, but a scent came to her nose. “What’s that?” She raised her muzzle and sniffed. “Do you see anything?”
He chuckled softly, "I wouldn't know, I don't really get to see that many water spirits by my little pond area."
He nodded to sage, "I saw someone in the woods, they may have been spying on us.'
Sage quickly dashed to his side, teeth bared and hackles raised. She didn’t want to fight, but she could if she had to. And Asuna had a plentiful source of water to use for himself. She could sense it now, it was a werewolf, but it was… strangely familiar. She didn’t want to let her guard down, though.
More movement. A shadow blocked the light streaming in through the trees. Then, a wolf came into view. She was large, her fur dark and brackish. Her grey eyes pierced into the two interlopers, but her tail was low and her fur was smooth down her neck. Meanwhile, the hair on Sage’s neck smoothed too.
“Ash?” She tilted her head.
The werewolf focused on her, the spark of recognition in her eyes. “What are you doing here, kitsune?”
Asuna noticing how sage went on the defensive and made sure to get some water from the source behind them, holding it infront of him incase he would need it.
He wouldn't attack unless sage did as he wasn't one for aggression, but he would defend himself should the need arise.
He turned to sage, confused when they started talking.
"You..know them?"
The werewolf turned to Asuna, her ear twitching. “I should ask you the same thing. Has Sage made a friend who isn’t a werewolf, for once?”
“Ash!” Sage yipped. “He is my friend, don’t say that! Look, we’re here for Timber. He told me he wants to get out.”
Ash sighed. “Oh boy. Are you sure? It was kind of stupid of you to come.” She looked between them. “If I hadn’t found you, and someone else did…”
Sage lowered her head. “Once we get him, we’re out of here. I promise.” Then her head jerked up. “Oh! Wait! Can you help us? Please? Please?”
He looked between the two of them and just listened to the two of them talk while they did.
"If you could help us that would really mean a lot, I know you don't know me, but I just want to help my friend."
He spoke, looking towards ash.
She twitched her head in his direction. “And just who are you anyway, other than her friend?” Ash sniffed the air. “You smell like pond water.”
“Ash!” Sage pleaded. “Don’t be suspicious of him, he doesn’t want to cause any trouble.”
He looked at sage nervously as ash moved to smell him,
"uhmm, please I don't mean anything bad.." He spoke as clearly as he could.
“Ah, some sort of water spirit?” Ash quickly concluded. “Rather meek for such a creature.” She sighed, looking between the two. “You’re both in the clear. I’ll help, but I uh, can’t make any guarantees.”
Sage gasped softly. “Oh, thanks so much! Um, this is Asuna, by the way.”
He waved at ash, "yeah, uh hi. I'm Asuna."
He felt a bit intimidated by them, but tried not to let it get to him.
They were gonna help sage and him, so he shouldn't be so worried about something going wrong.
Did Ash roll her eyes? “Hello, Asuna.” Her voice was dry. She grumbled something about water spirits and kitsunes. “Alright little water spirit, why don’t you hop on my back, and I’ll take you to my brother. Sage can follow behind.”
Sage turned to him and smiled, then leaned in to whisper, “It’s okay if she’s asking you. Honestly, her bark is worse than her bite.”
"Alright, if you say so sage." He offered a nervous smile to sage as he moved to climb onto ashs back, feeling extremely awkward while doing so and then holding on as much as he can without it being extremely weird or awkward.
She smiled back as a way to encourage him. Ash kneeled down so it was easier for Asuna to climb on, then hefted him on her back. “We need to stay downwind, so no one will catch out scent,” she warned. “Hm. Kitsune, rub against me so my scent will be on you. Just in case.”
Sage put a paw forward, a little hesitant at first. Then she went up and rubbed flanks with Ash, or at least tried to. The she-wolf was much taller than the little fox, so she had to bend down so they could touch.
Ash straightened. “Asuna’s water scent and your fire scent should cancel each other out. Let’s move.”
And then they were off, deeper into werewolf territory.
