He chuckled at her words and shrugged. "It wouldn't be the first time the press has scrounged for drama. It seems a little bit like pity to let them catch us doing anything." He grinned, meeting her eye as he spoke.
Alex leaned back in his seat, watching Lacey reapply her makeup with slight interest. He had watched his sister put on makeup before, but it was still interesting to see how simple it seemed; even if he knew it was far from that easy. When he was a kid he had put on some of his mother's makeup, but he had done far from even a decent job…needless to say, his mother had taken several pictures and laughed at the sight. Trying it again sounded like trouble.
"That's true. It could be interesting to see how much we could get away with before we're caught," the Princess said, smiling slightly, adding the finishing touches to her makeup before she put it away in the small hand-held bag she had at her side. "We could count down the days."
She looked up to see his eyes on the purse, where her makeup had gone, and her lips curled up slightly at the ends. Before she could say anything, however, the car pulled to a smooth stop, and the chauffeur got out and opened the door for the two of them. Lacey climbed out first, and, for one of the first times in her life, there weren't many cameras. She hadn't told anyone besides her father and driver where they were going, and so the press wasn't aware of her presence. Yet.
"Welcome to the New World Arcade," she said, turning and grinning at Alex.
Alex followed Lacey out of the car, brushing a hand over his hair to check that it was still neat as he did so. Expecting cameras everywhere, he looked around in surprise to see none. None of the flashing lights or yelling that came with the press, and though it was weird, he was relieved to see that they would be able to go on their date in private.
"An Arcade? Princess, I'm going to beat you in every game there is," Alex said cockily, a grin twisting its way onto his face as he looked towards the building eagerly, "Where are we starting?"
He held his arm out to her for a moment, before faltering and dropping it back down at his side, the reminder of the deal burned into his mind. They had only just gotten to their destination, and already he wanted to get back into the limo so he could simply hold her hand, or offer out a gentlemanly arm to her. It was going to be hard to remember to keep his distance.
"Hmmm. Nice try," Lacey said, returning his smirk with her own. As soon as he held out an arm to her, she almost whooped with pleasure. She expected to win, of course, but not this soon. And then she watched as he stopped, as the light died from his eyes and he moved his arm back into place. There was a small, disappointed sigh that escaped her lips, but that was all she let pass.
If this was how he was going to play, she would absolutely eliminate him. She straightened her top, shook out her hair, and pulled a mirror out of her bag, checking to make sure her makeup was flawless, as usual. And then she sent him a smirk. "Coming?"
She walked - no, it was more of a strut - to the door, and opened it, sweeping into a mock bow. "Ladies first," she said, a grin pulling at the corners of her lips.
