Sage chewed her lunch thoughtfully. "Well, of course, there are others stronger than you. It would be weird if there wasn't. I mean, I know water spirits who are stronger than you, too. Can't really blame yourself for that."
She watched him push and pull the water for a few moments when she frowned. "That's terrible. Humans are so untrustworthy sometimes. Hey," she glanced up at him. "Have you ever tried getting rid of your bond woth it?"
"Getting..rid of my bond?" He looked up from playing with the water,
He lifted up the amulet before dropping it back down. He hadnt really, he had thought of maybe leaving it somewhere and never touching it again, but never that. I mean, how can you get rid of something you don't know where it came from
"no, i hadn't."
“Well, I just thought it would be pretty terrible to live with. If I were you, I’d be questioning why I’ve had that cursed necklace for so long.”
She finished the leg she was eating and grabbed another. Tilting her head at him, she said, “Do you… want to get rid of it?”
She chewed the meat.
"Well I guess you could say its the only thing i have that makes me close to part of me i know nothing about." he sighed, picking it up and rubbing a thumb over it gently. the crack had already disappeared, so had the cut over his face.
"so i don't know if i want to get rid of it, like i said,i have tried parting with it before and it has not ebeen a pleasant experience."
he let go of it, letting it float in the water.
Sage swallowed. “No you didn’t! You said you’ve never tried getting rid of the bond! Wait, do you mean you’ve tried giving it away? Oh yeah, I guess there’s a difference…” She chewed the meat thoughtfully. “Maybe I worded that wrong. So you’ve never tried getting rid of your bond with it, but you’ve tried giving the necklace itself away?”
"Well, i tried to leave it just throw it somewhere and never see it again, and i never gave it because I was afriad it would hurt someone else. If i get too far from it i start to suffocate and crumble down to my knees."
He sighed laying on his back on the surface of the water.
"but no, i have never tried to seperate the bond."
She winced. “Well, at least we know that isn’t an option.”
Her tail swayed around her and she chewed the meat. “Timber, the friend I’m looking for, he said he knew a powerful werewolf who knows quite a bit about curses and cursed objects. Maybe he could help you with it. Maybe even figure out it’s history.”
"yeah.." he put a hand to his neck, "You really think that he could help me with this?" His eyes had a bit of hope to them.
A smile played on her lips as she watched hope gleam in his eyes. “I do! Timber’s a cool guy. He said any friend of mine is a friend of his.”
She finished the second leg and moved onto the third.
"Well then i guess that makes all three of us friends then." He smiles at her, Cringing when she bit into the third leg.
Sage beamed, almost becoming starry-eyed. "Yayyy! Timber would like you, I know he would!"
She picked and chewed her meat for a few moments, then said, "I think I'm going to stop here for the night. In the morning I plan to keep looking for him. It'll be hard though, I think I'm getting close to werewolf territory. They don't like kitsunes."
he smiled and layed his arms down, and then his head on his arms on the shoreline of the pond. "Yeah? well, i can assure you no creature will other you while you rest."
he looks around before continuing to listen to them. "Well if they have an issue with you being here they can take it up with me."
She blinked, tilting her head at him. “You’d do that for me?” She paused in her eating to lick her fingers. “That’s… that’s so nice of you.”
"Yeah i would, i dont mind. its the least i can do for you actually staying to talk to with me." he looked at her, "its nice to have company other rabbits."
Her smile was a mile wide, and she flushed with appreciation. Her tails wagged rapidly. "Thank you! It's nice to have company other than the birds!" She laughed.
She then went back to eating her lunch, which to her dismay was now growing cold. But it didn't matter too much, really.
His smile only grew at the sight of such a big smile on her as he gazed at her.
He kinda found the tail wag a little cute if he was being honest.
"of course, like i said it's the least i could do."
"Well, I'd do the same for you, too," she said.
After a while, she finished her meal. She buried the fur, skin, and bones, giving them the same treatment as the rabbit head, with a sort of ritual of prayerful thanks. In fox form, she returned to the edge of the pond and stretched, yawning as she did so. She then straightened and asked, "So… you're coming with me?"
"Aww thanks." He smiled at her watching her do her thing just laying half outside of the pond
"i mean, yeah it's not like i can't survive without water."
He got up and walked out of the pond sitting down next to the fox.
Her ear twitched. “Yeah I know, I guess it’s just that I don’t remember I time where I wasn’t traveling alone for very long. It’s a little strange, to think you’re coming with me.” She paused to groom her chest, then said, “But I’m glad I’ll have company.”
"Yeah, i guess it will be nice to stretch my legs and explore the areas nearby, i haven't done that in a really long time."
He smiled at her, reaching down to stroke her fox furr, if she would allow.
She allowed it, her tongue sticking out appreciatively. “That feels so good!” She exclaimed. “Why does it feel so good?” Her tails wagged, and she closed her eyes.
He chuckled a little bit at that, "I don't know, you want me to do it more?" He smiled down at her, looking at her tail wagging.
"It must be because you have fingers. I don't think I've felt human-like fingers in a while. At least, not that I can remember." Then she perked up. "Sure! Feels nice."
"Oh, yeah getting affectionate touch after not getting it for a while can make you appreciate it a lot more." He continued to pet her.
She reveled in his touch, her eyes closed and her tails wagging and her tongue sticking out. Eventually, she turned her head to lick his hand. Then her eyes opened and she shrank away from him. "Oh, I-I'm sorry."
He was a bit confused when she shrank away from him, he didn't really mind the lick.
"why are you apologising? You didn't do anything wrong."
She perked up. “Oh, I didn’t? It’s just that I’ve always been told to, y’know, not do anything impolite around water deities. Or else they get mad. I wasn’t sure about how you felt about it.”
Then she moved back to him, leaning her head into his still outstretched hand. “I’m glad you don’t mind.”
"Yeah well, not all water deitys are the same, plus some are more casual and others more serious and uhhh, proper."
he smiled down at her, continuing to pet her. "im slow to anger either way, so you wont see me mad unless im really mad."
