"It's definitely not normal. You should probably get it checked." Adders said. He sat up, and started shrugging his jacket off. "Got any major scars?"

"Major scars? Oh yeah, lots. My whole body is like, covered in scars." Lin laughed weakly. "I don't think I could afford to get checked out, honestly, even if I probably need to…"

"My biggest is here." Adders said, gesturing to his shoulder. He tapped the floor a couple of times. "We should start planning our daring adventure to save your siblings!"

"Daring adventure, huh? It might be a while until we're able to do anything." Lin hesitated before pulling off his shirt so Adders could see the multitude of scars on his chest and arms.

"Oh my god-" Adders said, his mouth fell open and it took him a while to notice before he snapped it shut. "That's a fair few."

"Mhmm." Lin looked down at himself with a contemplative hum. There wasn't much unscarred skin remaining, and many of the scars overlapped each other. "I've tried to count them before, but it's hard with them all overlapping like this…"

"Yikes." Adders realised he was staring and flicked his eyes up to Lin's face instead. "Do they feel weird? Like, to have?"

"Hmm… I guess so. Like I said, I can't feel a ton around where they are anymore. Can't really feel pain, but I still have a little bit of feeling. So like, I can feel my fingers a bit if I touch them."

"Can't imagine what that would feel like. Are they why our plans might be delayed? Or is there another reason?"

"Well, we don't exactly have money or anything with which to get to England and help my siblings. We also have like… no plan." Lin laughed weakly and pulled his shirt back on.

"That's true. But that's why I said we should make a plan." Adders shuffled into a more comfortable position. "First up, how can we get to England with out using my father's planes."

"Well, if we can gather enough money to buy plane tickets, we can do that. Then we can get with money for the return tickets from the family safe when we get there. Or, we can stowaway on a plane or a ship."

"How much money do you think we'll need? And where do we get money? I've never had a job before." He grabbed a notebook and pencil out of his bag to write notes.

"Well… it was a few hundred just for me…" Lin replied sheepishly. "So it'll be more than a thousand American dollars for both of us to get back."

"Oh, that's a lot." Adders said putting the pencil down. "That would take a while, like, a long while."

"Right. So it might be easier to try and stowaway." Lin sighed softly and leaned back against the wall of the tree fort. "Or we can try and earn as much money as possible."

Adders rubbed his eyes, "Seems like we have a lot of work ahead of us. What would we do to get money? There aren't many jobs two runaway kids can get."

Lin shrugged a bit. "We could steal it, but I'd rather not commit any crimes. I don't have any possessions, so I can't sell anything. I suppose getting a job would be the only way, but I don't believe I'm legally allowed to since I'm only thirteen."

"I can only think of illegal things, dammit." Adders said, lying down on his stomach. "This is harder than I thought."

"Yeah… I mean, we might have to do a couple illegal things if we want this to happen any time soon…" Lin sighed softly.

Adders hit the floor with his palm. "I refuse to be beaten by the first obstacle! We've got to figure this out." He glanced at Lin, "Have any talents?"

"Talents? Um…" Lin looked down at himself thoughtfully. "I'm fairly physically skilled, I have good pain tolerance, and I can use fire and electric magic with proficiency. Aside from that, I'm not b sure I have anything that would help me get a job."

"I can play the drums." Adders said, staring into space. "It's one of the only things I'm good at. Also metal magic, of course, but I wouldn't say I'm good at it. And I have pretty okay technological knowledge."

Lin nodded a bit. "Well, I dunno… maybe somebody would be willing to hire us even though we're underage." He shrugged. "We could just do odd jobs here and there for a while."
